Degrade (Flawed Book 1)

by T.L. Smith

degrade

Synopsis

Zeke
One rule, only one rule women need to follow when they’re with me.
Don’t ask for more.
This rule is in place for a reason, you won’t get more of what’s not there to give.

Bexley
He is striking, and he’s all man. He is also the devil, or so I believe him to be. I gave him my heart, not realizing I was doing so. He likes to break me down, so I’m a shell of the person I once was. He’s chipping away at me, bit by bit. Though I’m not as weak as he thinks, and when I can’t handle it anymore, I will come back swinging.

My Review

Again T.L gives us strong female characters, Bexley’s old and new girlfriends created an intricate web of support, friendship, humour and ultimate strength for her to find her heart, risk everything, fight her inner demons and ultimately find her true love.

This was simply incredible, Zeke and Bexley belonged together, I was captivated by this story and the mind bending twists that had me gripped to those pages.  The author wove an incredible secretive story that had you wondering who was playing who?  I thought Zeke had control then it transferred to Bexley and then we had other characters playing their part and interfering and causing harm.

Zeke and Bexley, can I say I simply  loved their names, the cryptic scenes within the story were well set and I could imagine Zeke’s house and I wanted to be in his bed.  Their sexual scenes were so hot and intense – fantastic writing.

I really liked how we were introduced to both characters, their attraction formed on the pages and then we were transported a month ahead to their current relationship as such.  I did not feel as if I missed out on any details, the inner turmoil of these characters had me devouring the pages.

A truly wonderful story – LOVED IT!

Road to Redemption (Dogs of Fire MC #2)

By Piper Davenport

Road to Redemption

Synopsis

Alex ‘Hawk’ James has a sordid and violent past, one that, in part, leaves him the single father of a little girl. His only solace is the world he’s made within the Dogs of Fire Motorcycle Club.

Payton Williams has everything under control. Her neat little world is as she has made it and she’s happy with the life she’s leading. But when a chance encounter with a gorgeous biker upends her tidy plans, she finds herself confronting things she’d been happy to gloss over… until now.

Will Hawk and Payton’s different worlds collide in chaos, or will they come together and heal the wounds of the past?

Will a threat from someone out of Hawk’s past destroy the trust he and Payton are building?

My Review

OK, so I fell in love with Hawk and his beautiful daughter Lily in Road to Desire (Dogs of Fire MC#1), so as soon as I finished book one I went and downloaded book two and by god I have just downloaded book three,  so you know I am going to tell you I LOVE this series.

Also have to say I had  a different picture of Hawk in my brain to the front cover so I went with my guy but the cover guy still rocks!  Loved reading about Dani and Booker again too.

Now, yes there are bikers and its not gritty but these are romantic reads with lots of passion and hot biker sex so I am not disappointed at all.  This series continues to make me believe it is more about the women than the men, the men yes are hot, alpha, protective and just gorgeous but the women to me own these storylines which I love.  The relationship between Payton and her family was one of my favourite parts of this story and the memories and commitments they make to each other throughout some tense, heartfelt and happy moments.

Hawk is stubborn and considering how Lily came to be you would understand his lack of trust but then Payton too harbours her own issues.  I just adored her relationship and connection the Hawk’s daughter.  Now it is all not PG rated, the passionate and imaginative sex scenes that Hawk enjoys kept me turning the pages and what do they say – you need to watch the quiet ones as they can be kinky in the sack, well Payton is definitely out there.

It was funny though, I thought I had the dramatic twist worked out in my head and as to whom was going to be the bad guy/woman but then Piper tricks me – well done not what I suspected.

We get drama, good over evil, interesting FBI connection to the storyline and we also excitingly get to see Hawk and Payton a few years on living life and making new memories with each other.

No Limit (Armed & Dangerous # 1)

By L.P. Dover

BR No Limit

Synopsis

Murder. Lies. Betrayal.

I deal with those things every day. My name is Jason Avery, one of the best undercover agents in the country. I have yet to fail on a mission, which is why I’ve been sent to Vegas. Countless women have been abducted, tortured, only to show up dead in the middle of the night. It’s my job to find out which sick f*** is responsible. Unfortunately, every lead sends me to a dead end; at least, until Aylee McFadden shows up at my door.

Aylee is a stubborn, headstrong FBI agent and also one of the sexiest women I’ve ever seen with a gun. In joining me, it gives us the leverage we need to get on the inside. She fights me at every turn, but soon realizes there’s more to me than tattoos and a dirty mouth. I can’t get enough of her. Now that we’re in the game, we’re one step closer to solving the crime. However, gambling with money isn’t what the big boys want. They want the one thing I’m not willing to give.

It’s a no limit game, and if I back down I lose everything. I will lose her.

Review

I’ll be honest, I wasn’t sure what to expect with NO LIMIT.  When I signed up to review and promote this, I did so because I recognised L.P. Dover’s name, but then I realised that this seemed to be a complete 180 from her books I’ve read before in the Forever Fae and Second Chances series.  And then when I saw the cover, I got really worried.  But I shouldn’t have judged this book by it’s cover, because WOW, I loved it and didn’t want to put it down.  The story was good, the case was thrilling, the characters were likeable and the sex was hot.

There’s a killer leaving his mark on Vegas working girls, with all the victims coming from one high-end escort service.  The Madam has temporarily shut down her business but her girls are still turning up dead.  Jason is called in and goes undercover as a high roller hoping to get inside the group of wealthy suspects.  After months of no luck, the FBI send in one of their agents to help him out.  Enter Aylee, who plays the part of Jason’s paid companion.  Thanks to her assistance and the appearance of an unlikely ally, they’re able to get inside the group and start eliminating the suspects one at a time.  I had my suspicions as to who the killer could be, but I was shocked at how it played out.  Well done Ms Dover, well done.

I loved Jason and Aylee and I thought they were perfect for each other.  Jason’s used to working alone and is therefore not used to having to place his trust in a partner.  And trust is something Aylee is reluctant to give after being betrayed by her partner on a previous case that almost got her killed.  Jason isn’t a violent man, but he has no problem becoming violent when the situation calls for it.  He has a deep sense of doing the right thing, justice and protecting the innocent.  With Aylee being FBI and Jason being an undercover cop, you just know that right off the bat they’ll hate each other.  But as they work together, they start to respect each other’s skills and qualities, and they realise there’s so much more under the surface.  And when feelings of like and love become part of the equation, Jason’s not so keen to use her as bait anymore and will do anything to protect her, even if it means pissing her off.

The story seemed to move very fast at the beginning.  By the middle it seemed to have slowed down, so either the pace did in fact slow down, or I got used to the fast pace and didn’t notice it anymore.  NO LIMIT is the first book in the Armed & Dangerous series, but it mentions characters that have appeared in her Gloves Off series, at least I assume they’re from that series.  After meeting Kyle, I’m thinking I might have to add that series to my TBR list.  In fact, I just did.

Till Death (Deep Six Security # 1)

By Becky McGraw

BR Till Death

Synopsis

Dave Logan, the owner of Deep Six Security, is stunned when Dallas FBI head, Susan Whitmore, darkens his doorstep accusing him of being the cause of her losing her job, and demanding he hire her. Even as his brain says no way, the Barracuda is a woman nobody can work with, his white-knight complex forces him to offer her a job as his very overqualified temporary secretary.

A wealthy couple who ordered a designer baby which wasn’t delivered contacts Dave for help. To get answers for them, Dave has to get inside an overly-fortified fertility clinic going undercover with Susan as his temporary wife. The situation inside is worse than they imagined, and soon their pretend ‘til death do us part’ could become very real unless the two alpha personalities learn to work together to stay alive.

Review

TILL DEATH is the first book I’ve read from Becky McGraw and I quite enjoyed it.  This is a new series, but I did wonder if the characters have appeared in one of her previous series.  Just the way some of the characters and events were talked about, it sounded like it had happened before and the author was just giving a quick recap into how everyone came to be where they were.

I’m not sure how old David is, but Susan is 36 years old.  She’s super smart (that’s my technical term) and unfortunately for her, has no real social skills.  I liked Susan’s character from beginning to end.  She starts out quite abrasive, and that’s the opinion everyone has of her, but as the book goes on you see she has her reasons for being that way.  A woman has to act tough to make it in a man’s world, yet men can’t stand it when a woman acts like a man, all tough and arrogant.  When a man does it, he’s just getting the job done.  But when a women does it, she’s a total bitch and everyone hates her.  By the end of the book, you see that she’s just another woman who’s been hurt by a man and left broken hearted, but determined to move on.

David is a typical man’s man.  While he respects that a woman can do just as good a job as a man, he refuses to hire them in his security firm, believing they’ll distract his rough and tough men from their assignments.  Hiring Susan temporarily while he tries to find her another job, it turns out that the biggest distraction she causes is to him.  I liked David and he’s definitely an alpha male, both with women and the men that work for him.  Like Susan, he’s rude, arrogant and demanding, and you realise that he also doesn’t have very good social skills, so they’re kind of made for each other.  His business is his baby, and any spare time and cash is used to keep the business afloat and his men employed.

There were a few things that felt unfinished in this book.  Susan hinted at a possible conspiracy regarding the death of her parents, her father in particular, due to a case he was close to closing at the time of his death.  I thought perhaps this would be an underlying story arc in the series, but after she thinks it once, it’s never brought up again.  If it won’t be used in future stories, I don’t see the point in mentioning it at all.  In regards to the surrogacy case, we find out what possibly happened to the mother and baby, but there was no closure for the couple that lost it.

Overall, I really enjoyed this book.  It held my attention and I didn’t want to put it down.  I flattened my iPad battery and went straight to my iPhone to continue reading.  The members of David’s team were funny, diverse and interesting, and I’d love to learn more about them if they get their own books.

Beautiful Redemption

By Jamie McGuire

beautiful redemption

Jamie McGuire and her Maddox men I absolutely love, I first fell in love with Travis and Abby, I mean who didn’t and I loved reading both Beautiful Disaster and Walking Disaster.

I adored Thomas (TJ) in Beautiful Oblivion so I admit I was really looking forward to this story being his chance to fall in love.  I wanted so much more for him and was really sad at the start of this book that he was a shattered man.

I have to admit I did not really devour the first half of the book as I found it took the two main characters a really long time to connect.  I also felt slightly let down at the end of the book that they literally just admitted they loved and needed each and then the dam book ends.  We took forever to get there and then bam – all finished – I wanted more sex scenes, romance and emotions.

Don’t get me wrong, I enjoyed reading this but found it was more about the whole FBI unit, the case for Travis & Abby and then also the endless yes or no between Thomas and Liis just wore me down a bit.  Both Liis and Thomas had so many hang ups about falling in love again and Liis just could not get over TJ loving Camille, I mean by the wedding weekend I was over it.  We all love someone else before we find the one – Liis just grated me the wrong way.

Just not enough sex and romance but had to read it as hooked on the Maddox family as a whole.

The Wolf Within (Purgatory # 1)

By Cynthia Eden

RBTS The Wolf Within

Synopsis

FBI Special Agent Duncan McGuire spends his days–and his nights–tracking real-life monsters. Most humans aren’t aware of the vampires and werewolves that walk among them. They don’t realize the danger that they face, but Duncan knows about the horror that waits in the darkness. He hunts the monsters, and he protects the innocent. Duncan just never expects to become a monster. But after a brutal werewolf attack, Duncan begins to change…and soon he will be one of the very beasts that he has hunted.

Dr. Holly Young is supposed to help Duncan during his transition. It’s her job to keep him sane so that Duncan can continue working with the FBI’s Para Unit. But as Duncan’s beast grows stronger, the passion that she and Duncan have held carefully in check pushes to the surface. The desire that is raging between them could be a very dangerous thing…because Holly isn’t exactly human, not any longer.

As the monsters circle in, determined to take out all of the agents working at the Para Unit, Holly and Duncan will have to use their own supernatural strengths in order to survive. But as they give up more of their humanity and embrace the beasts within them both, they realize that the passion between them isn’t safe, it isn’t controllable, and their dark need may just be an obsession that could destroy them both.

Author’s Note: THE WOLF WITHIN is an adult paranormal romance. It contains werewolves, vampires, adult language, sexy times, and lots of danger. Please consider yourself warned. THE WOLF WITHIN contains approximately 60,000 words.

My Review

OK this book interested me from the start as it had my two favourite words – FBI & Werewolf. I mean that just says hot men, dominating moves and steamy sex. You get two of those and some quickie sex thrown in. I also joined a new group in Goodreads and their BOTM was Charming the Beast (Purgatory #3) so needed to read books 1 and 2.

Don’t get me wrong, I enjoyed the book, did not devour it. The FBI story is well done, I believe we had to learn all the history of the current team and where they are going forward so we know what the go is in books 2 and beyond. The team dynamic is good, must say Pate and Connor were characters I really liked and think their storylines will be worthwhile.

Purgatory is the name of the prison set up by FBI for Werewolfs and Vampires, obviously they cannot go to human prisons. The Paranormal unit is a division of the FBI and are a mix of Vampires and Werewolfs.

The two main characters Duncan and Holly really only have what I would say is good sex. They seem to get interrupted all the time and when sex happened it was very quick so as I started to get worked up – it was all over red rover.

I really enjoyed the twists and turns and the family connections that was something I did not expect but a great surprise none the less.

Will I read Book 2, yes I probably will as Book 3 sounds actually really good, it is available but I have other books on my iPad calling me so may do one a month.

Onto my next book ….
