Stronger Than This

By Abby McCarthy

Synopsis

Marie:
I married a monster — a member of a motorcycle club. I was okay with him blurring the lines until the lines he crossed turned against me. He wasn’t always a monster, or he hid it well. I wouldn’t have married him if I’d known. By the time his true colors showed, I was pregnant with no way out. Until one day, years of planning paid off, and I was able to run away with my daughter.
I found my footing in the foothills of Pennsylvania, thinking I would be far from any MC. I was wrong.

Mickey:
As a member of The Devil’s Crusaders, not much escapes me in Wakeman. Especially not the tiny, fiery redhead who strolled into town, so obviously hiding from something. She made my blood boil in the best way possible. I’d avoided taking an old lady, instead, choosing to spend my years raising my daughter. Not anymore. Not since Marie. I was ready, and she was it for me. I just had to find out what she was hiding from before it finally catches up to her

Review

Stronger Than This started perfectly and drew me in from the first few chapters.  After knowing where we are headed you have a continual feeling of waiting for Marie’s future and past to collide.

Mickey was just a perfect male character and once I got used to his accent it flowed well.  I had not read any other books by this author and could easily follow the supporting characters.  The sense of family amongst these characters provide light and laughter to an at times dark and sad story.

There was no unnecessary drama in this story and considering some of the topics covered it was welcomed as a reader to just follow Marie’s journey.  The beautiful way other women were woven into becoming Marie’s tribe was refreshing.

Talon was a realistic character in her honest expression of changing her life.  It was lovely to follow this mother and daughter rebuild their connection to each other after living in lies and deceit.  Drake was a frightening character and towards the end, I was beside myself with fear.

The last few chapters of this story are at times hard to read as I had forged such a strong connection to Marie and Talon.  The journey is worth it as we are given a wonderful happy ever after.

Until Harmony (Until Her #4)

By Aurora Rose Reynolds

Synopsis

Harmony Mayson isn’t the kind of girl to take unnecessary risk, but after meeting Harlen MacCabe, she starts to wonder if maybe she should be. The more time she spends with the wild and free biker, the more she starts to crave the freedom he gives her… And even more, she starts to crave him.

Harlen lives his life on his own terms. After losing both his parents at an early age to a robbery gone bad, he knows how precious life is, and he’s determined to get as much out of it as he can. When he runs into the beautiful Harmony and finds out she’s moving to town, he knows it’s time to take his shot. She thinks he only wants to be friends, but she couldn’t be more wrong.

What Harmony and Harlen don’t know is that their time might be cut short. Revenge is in the air, and someone won’t stop until a debt is settled.

Review

If you have read the Until Series, Harmony is Nico’s daughter and I loved their father/daughter relationship in Until Harmony. It was raw and real, she stood up for herself and her characteristics made me immediately connect with her.

Nico and his wife Sophie play their parts in this romance along with other members of the family.  You could probably get away with not reading the other books in this series.  Until Harmony definitely felt more standalone as you are not bombarded with extended family members.

Harmony is a planner and is careful in her life and the way the author built Harmony & Harlen’s friendship first was true to the characters personalities. One favourite moment was when they confessed they loved each other, emotional but then plenty of humour with Nico and her Grandpa being there to see the moment!

Harlen is careful but a very smart man.  He was perfect for the “BOOM” moment to happen to the Maysen daughter. His own story has sadness which assisted in softening his edges.

Harlen and Harmony’s physical connection is realistic and evenly balanced between hot & steamy and soft & tender.

Harmony’s life is in danger and this provides some great suspense.  We also meet Cobi her cousin and I am intrigued by his love interest who is introduced.

The Epilogue is actually one of my favourites in a long time, it was brilliant, the author gave us simple snapshots at poignant moments in their future, simply perfect.

Breech’s Fall (Devil’s Wind MC #2)

By D. D. Galvani

Synopsis

From the moment Jiji steps foot inside the Devil’s Wind clubhouse, Breech can’t get her out of his head. She’s beautiful, smart and sassy-all things that drive Breech’s need to it’s breaking point. But she’s not for him. She’s his best friend Fighter’s little sister. He can’t hit it and quit it with Jiji, like he does the others. Either he’s all in or Fighter will have his balls.

Jiji knows exactly what kind of man Breech is and no matter what kind of fire he sets off in her lady parts, she has no intentions of getting mixed up with him and becoming another one, of the many women, he leaves in his wake. She has goals she’s working towards and the world of bikers doesn’t fit in with what she has planned.

But when trouble comes knocking and Jiji finds herself in a terrifying situation, it’s Breech and the Devil’s Wind that must step in to save her. She just hopes they make it in time.

Review

When picking up Breech’s Fall, I had not read book 1 and honestly, this is a standalone and I could easily follow the story and other characters as introduced.  This story centers around Breech and Jiji, they have great chemistry and real friendship.

The first half of Breech’s Fall is their story about moving from friendship to acknowledging their attraction and building a romance as they travel together.  I did find the pace in the first half a bit slow personally.  However, Just want to say the author wrote truthfully about traveling the road together, Jiji’s uncomfortable moments were funny.

We then move to the second half of the story and it has such action, drama and does not stop, I kept turning the pages at this point.  There are dark and dangerous moments they build to a fantastic ending that I thoroughly enjoyed.

Retaliate (Vigilante Justice #2)

By Kristin Harte

Synopsis

The second book in the Vigilante Justice series features a dangerous second chance romance…

He loved her…and lost her
Justice is still under attack, but it’s been quiet. At least, until I get a phone call saying a resident needs help. Not just any resident either. The grandmother of the woman who ripped my heart out of my chest over a decade before. One trip up the mountain, and my worst fears—and biggest hopes—are realized. Anabeth’s back and just as captivating as she’d always been. But when she faces off against a Soul Suckers rider, I’ll have to do more than protect her. I’ll have to figure out a way to win her back. Because there’s no way I’ll ever let her go again.

She’s never gotten over him
Fourteen years after leaving Justice for what I thought would be the last time, I’m forced back to say goodbye to the only family I’ve ever known. The town’s as small as ever, and being there is just as painful as I remember. The memories of big hurts and bigger mistakes won’t leave me alone…and neither will my ex. I’m still attracted to Bishop Kennard—even more than I was as a lovesick teenager—but he’s a man now. A tough, brutal man who will stop at nothing to protect me.

Too bad he’s the one who needs protecting…from the things I did that caused me to leave him behind in the first place.

Review

Retaliate is book 2 of this series and I had not read the first book Payback.  As a reader, I could easily follow the family connections and story of the town.  There are some strong and impressive characters in this series that will keep you addicted.

The second half of this story I enjoyed more as I became frustrated wanting to know what event had caused her to flee the town 14 years ago.  Feeling pleasantly surprised when all was revealed that I did not guess the big reveal.

Bishop and Anabeth had great chemistry.  Moments of lovemaking were well written with such angst, passion and just so much heart.

One couple I really want to read their story is Gage and Katie, I really enjoyed their inclusion in Bishop and Anabeth’s second chance together.  Bishop was a great character in this story along with his brothers.

Concluding at a wonderful point for this couple, I am definitely looking forward to reading next installment called Justify.

Fighting Dirty (Blind Jacks #2)

By J C Valentine

Synopsis

What happens when an outlaw biker’s obsession puts him between a beautiful nurse and her vicious stalker?

Ryder

When a brutal attack sent him rolling on a gurney into a beautiful nurse’s life, the chance encounter seemed like a dream come true. She patched him up and gave him a reason to believe in love again, shining light into his dark and dangerous world.

There’s only one problem… She’s on the run from a violent past that’s about to catch up with her in the form of an ex-husband who’s used to getting what he wants—no matter what stands in his way. It might get him killed, but Ryder’s never backed down from a fight, and this is one he’s determined to win.

Tiffany

Starting over isn’t easy. Years of learning new towns, new people, and new jobs have left Tiffany tired, lonely, and ready to give up. Until a hot, sexy, bad-boy biker barreled into her life and she fell…hard. Latching onto the over-protective biker seemed like a good way to escape her daunting past, but life is never that simple.

Club life isn’t what Tiffany imagined it to be, and she soon realizes that her hot new man has a long and wild history that may be more than she bargained for. Between the women and rumors of violence, she finds herself caught between a psychotic ex bent on her destruction and the man who isn’t what she thought him to be. When things quickly begin to unravel, Tiffany doesn’t know who to trust or where to turn.

Review

Tiffany and Ryder’s chemistry again created great moments together with lots of suspense but also humour.  They are an extremely likable couple, however, I did feel their relationship in the first half of this story took a backseat at times.

The storyline around the club and in particular Darkness was actually my favourite part of this whole book.  I do admit I am feeling let down with the ending and the Stuart storyline.  It did not make sense to me and it became extremely weird.

Plenty of drama and suspense surround the Blind Jacks and I actually found myself really engrossed in this whole period.  When Tiffany makes a decision to face her history I could not put this down and her mother was simply wonderful.  We definitely get to learn more about Tiffany and who and what she was running from.

Again I just feel the ending with Stuart just did not go the way I thought it would, I suppose I wanted Ryder to be her hero and save the day.

I’m the best at what I do.

A means to flush her father out of hiding.
Simple.
Except there isn’t anything simple about Frankie or the secrets she’s keeping.
She’s cocaine with legs. I’m addicted before I’ve even had a taste.
I might have her, but I can’t keep her.
But if her father doesn’t show his face, Frankie will be mine.
To KILL.

Review

Smoke and Frankie had me within the first few pages, I read this book in a day, could not put it down! The two characters emotional and physical connection will have you so invested in this story.

Frankie’s loneliness, vulnerability along with her sheer determination made my heart ache and pulse beat a million times a minute. Following Frankie’s journey with Smoke made me hate him yet also love him in the same chapter. The author wove such inner turmoil in these two characters you could not help but want them to find love with each other.

Running in the background is Smoke’s revenge centering around Frankie’s dad and what an intricate web of lies we are following. Whilst reading, I did not pick any of the twists and turns which is so typical of the King Series book I have read to date. It was great to see Bear, King, and Preppy again and see their friendship and humor is as strong as ever.

I am going to have to read Rage’s story with Nolan as she was a standout for me. Upon checking I see that Nine has the next story and I am looking forward to that too.

Up in Smoke is dark, it has moments of sheer terror and despair but then we are given beautiful moments that deliver hope for Smoke and Frankie. The two lonely and isolated characters were perfection on the page and the ending just mended my heart.

Echo (Archer’s Creek #1)

By Gemma Weir

Synopsis

Echo

I’m a Doomsday Sinner. A biker to my very soul. Women have always been the same – interchangeable. Until her. She loves my control and craves my touch. Now she’s mine. I’ve claimed her in every way possible and I won’t let anything, least of all her, tear us apart.

Olivia

I was on the holiday of a lifetime, until I ended up stranded in Archer’s Creek. Then I met a badass, Harley riding biker boy who laughed at me. He’s a bloody pain in the arse. Bossy and controlling, he’s the unexpectedly perfect guy at the worst moment – because even the strongest love can falter when a crazed psycho decides I need to die.

Review

Firstly, the cover of Echo immediately drew me in and is perfect for him, I can imagine this biker from the first few chapters.

Echo is dominating to a point of at times I found him a bit too hard with Olivia.  I wanted to understand him more and at times it became too much with all the sex scenes.  This was prevalent in the first half of this story.  Moving onto the second half we get more under the skin of Echo and how he copes when Olivia is in danger and hurt.

Olivia, I connected to immediately and enjoyed her humour and stubbornness.  Her family was weird and slightly unnecessary.  I do not understand how they did not see her after the traumatic event?  This point in the book when Olivia is in danger is full of surprises and suspense and helped to keep me turning the pages.

The sexual scenes between Echo and Olivia were enjoyable however I wanted more verbal interaction.  The MC club plays a secondary role in this story, we meet members however the main focus is Olivia and Echo’s relationship.

I found the continual reference to use of condoms annoying at times, I found myself saying yes I know there will be no surprise pregnancy!

The ending was simple and lovely however I would have loved to know Echo’s thoughts on the new chapter in their relationship.

Quote:  So I fall and let fate catch me; after all, that fickle bitch obviously has plans for us.

Castle of Kings

By Betty Shreffler

Synopsis

Jake F*cking Castle
When he walks into a room, he owns it. He consumes my very breath and melts my delicate little panties. From the moment he set eyes on me, he decided I was his. No one – not even my brother, Nix – was going to tell him otherwise. It doesn’t matter that Nix is President of the Kings MC Club. Jake wants what he wants, and he’ll set out to get it, whatever the cost.
Jake may be an arrogant asshole, but there’s no denying the hold he has over me. His fierce, carnal need to make me his, and his alone, is a snare I can’t escape. And truth be told, I don’t want to.
But when my life becomes threatened, Jake Castle is the only man my brother trusts to protect me. He knows Jake will do anything to keep me safe.

Review

Castle of Kings is the first MC Romance for Betty Shreffler and the first one for me to read.  Liz is the sister of Nix who leader of The Kings MC Club. She just got back from school and her bother has some of the club bothers that he thinks she should meet.  One of those bothers does not include Jake Castle. As soon as Jake saw Liz he knew that she was special. Throw in trouble for a rival club and you have a mixture for an intense relationship.

I instantly fell for Jake.  He is arrogant and possessive. And you can’t help but want to make him the center of your world.  Jake understands the dangers of his world and his only desire is to make sure that Liz is safe.  I also love his nickname for her.

I loved Liz.  She is tough but she understood this MC lifestyle having grown up in it.  She has great friends around her.  She also has a great brother who only wants to see her safe and happy.

I have to say that this was a very quick read for me.  I couldn’t put this book down and I really wish that I had a Jake to take me for a ride on his bike. This relationship is intense. They understand each other.  Even though Nix doesn’t like it, he knows that Jake will keep her safe.  I can’t wait to see what Betty has in store for us next.

Marked for Death

By J C Valentine

Synopsis

Tiffany
Leading a nomadic life, I’ve been on the run from my rich ex-husband for years. I’ve learned every trick in the book, staying one step ahead of him and his trackers. He’s taken everything from me, and despite everything, I’ve managed to carve out a life. But he’s getting close again. It’s time to hit the road, to start over…but it looks like the universe has other plans.

Ryder
As Sargent at Arms, stalking the crazy man trying to kill my MC brothers is part of my job description. Protecting the club is what I live for. Unfortunately, today I’m the loser in our never ending game of cat and mouse. The last thing I remember before waking up in the emergency room is staring up at the sky while bleeding out onto the cold, hard pavement. Then the pretty nurse walks in and turns my world sideways, and those soft hands know just how to handle a big, angry biker like me. With a psycho on my tail, the stakes couldn’t be higher. I know I should walk away, but self-preservation has never been much of a strong suit. As my enemy closes in, I’ve got no gun, three bullet holes, and absolutely zero patience left. The question is, who will be the one to sign my death warrant—the crazy-ass biker who’s gunning for me…or the sexy-as-sin nurse I’ve got a hard-on for?

Review

A quick read that held me captive from the first page.  It ended far too soon for my liking.  I read this story in a day and could not put it down.

The chemistry between the two main characters provides moments of humour, passion, and friendship.  From their initial meeting to moving forward together covers around five or so days so it is intense.  Due to individual circumstances, they are both wanderers.  It was interesting for them both to realize they had found someone to have their back and heart.

Ryder owned every scene and he was such a strong presence particularly in his interactions with Tiffany.  Their time at the hospital and then, in particular, the cabin was highly entertaining.

Firstly there are two stories within this, one for Ryder and one for Tiffany.  The author neatly tied up Ryder’s story.  However, I am left slightly disappointed that Tiffany’s personal story is not fully explained.

In conclusion, I am so intrigued by her background that I will be waiting with baited breathe for her past and future to clash.

Ride Wild (Raven Riders #3)

By Laura Kaye

Synopsis

Brotherhood. Club. Family.
They live and ride by their own rules.
These are the Raven Riders…

Wild with grief over the death of his wife, Sam “Slider” Evans merely lives for his two sons. Nothing holds his interest anymore—not even riding his bike or his membership in the Raven Riders Motorcycle Club. But that all changes when he hires a new babysitter.

Recently freed from a bad situation by the Ravens, Cora Campbell is determined to bury the past. When Slider offers her a nanny position, she accepts, needing the security and time to figure out what she wants from life. Cora adores his sweet boys, but never expected the red-hot attraction to their brooding, sexy father. If only he would notice her…

Slider does see the beautiful, fun-loving woman he invited into his home. She makes him feel too much, and he both hates it and yearns for it. But when Cora witnesses something she shouldn’t have, the new lives they’ve only just discovered are threatened. Now Slider must claim—and protect—what’s his before it’s too late.

Review

Ride Wild was a wonderfully romantic story around creating a new family.

My favourite characters were, in fact, the two youngest being Sam and Ben, they simply stole my heart.  The way they interacted with Cora was really intricate to Slider opening his own heart. The affection and devotion the two young brothers had for Cora was just beautiful and provided great humour too.

Slider was hard to connect to at the start but once he opened his heart well he became the man he should have been.  His path to forgiving himself for the past and be able to move forward provided a great story.

Whilst I have not read the first two of this series it does not matter, this is Cora and Slider’s romantic story and it was perfect.  There are some heat filled passionate moments that are enjoyable but it was their emotional connection I loved.

Ride Wild was paced well and kept me entertained and also included some mystery and suspense towards the end.  I enjoyed following the MC club welcome Slider back to the group.

The way the author ended the story was lovely and I was left with no questions as to their future.

Quote:  “I see you,” he said. “Always.”
