Monster (Made & Broken #2)

By Nora Ash

Synopsis

Marcus

They call me crazy. Sociopath. A monster without a conscience.

I always thought they were right. I don’t back down from anything, and the only thing that can quell the rage in my gut is killing.

Then she walked into my life. The woman who seduced me to steal my Family’s secrets.

I should kill her, but when I look into her eyes, all the monster in me wants is to protect her.

Eve

It was supposed to be an easy job: Seduce a ruthlessly handsome man and steal his pen drive while he’s sleeping. Not the worst thing I’ve had to do to while working on the streets, by far.

I didn’t know he was the son of London’s most dangerous crime family—and I didn’t know that looking at the pictures on that goddamn pen drive would make the entire country’s underworld hunt for me.

He’s the only one powerful enough to protect me now, but I’m not sure if that’s what he’s got in mind. I’ve seen what he does to the people who cross him.

He’s a monster.

And now, his sights are set on me.

Review

Monster was a surprising read, I knew it was going to be dark but I did not expect the emotion it would envoke in me.  I did not expect the knots in my throat at the end when I found myself sad but also hopeful.  When I first met Marcus in Dangerous (Made & Broken #1) he immediately drew me in, I wanted to know his story.

Monster reflects his true inner turmoil and some readers may find him hard to connect with. He is dark, dangerous yet draws you in, you want him to find peace.  He is brutal when his inner demons come out, some parts of this story are quite violent but they reflect Marcus.  What healed my turmoil over this was his brother’s actions and how they silently backed him up, they were always there for him.

Evelyn was a perfect female character for Marcus, the way she communicates to the Monster and draws him to the light was beautiful.  She was strong and resilient and stood up for herself.

I was glad the author took their love on a different path to Blaine and Mira, even though it was still insta-love.  The author explains the attraction for both Blaine and Marcus towards the end of this story with their mother.  We learn more about the Steel family and all their secrets. This is a great Mob Romance that held me captive and I read in a day.

Again, upon finishing book 1, I bought book 2 and 3 as these brothers all drew me in and I need to know their stories.  I am so excited to read the twins story about what type of women brings these two to their knees.

Monster ends at a sad but also happy moment in time for this couple. I do hope I find out more about Marcus and Evelyn in the third book being Trouble.  I would love to see these Steel brothers unite their family together in this final installment especially with their other brother.

Captive Beauty

By Natasha Knight

Synopsis

Cilla

The Beast had Belle.
Killian Black has me.

How I got here doesn’t matter, even though he says it does. Says it was my choice. He doesn’t get it, though. It wasn’t ever a choice for me.

And now, he’s changing the rules.

The agreement was one month. For thirty days, I’d be his. He’s no longer satisfied with my body alone, though. He wants my soul, too. Wants every part of me. And even though I can pretend I’m safe when I lie beneath him, this man does something to me. Something wicked.

A thing that will break me.

Killian

People suck at consequences.

Cilla made the choice. She offered the deal. I just took her up on it. So what if I changed the rules half-way in? I’m not apologizing for it.

See, Cilla and me, we’re the same. She’s dark. As dark as me. Something happened to her. Something bad. It damaged her.

But it’s not a hero she seeks. It’s an avenging angel. A dark knight. That, I can do. I’ll slay her dragons, but it’ll cost her, because in return, I want everything. And I’ll take it.

She’s mine.

Author’s note: Captive Beauty is a standalone romance. Think Beauty and the Beast, but twisted and dark in the best, dirtiest ways.

Review

Loved this Dark and erotic romance with a highly emotional and thought-provoking sub-story.

Cilla and her brother’s story Is heartbreaking and when you think you know their secret, be prepared. I had a thought about them and was praying I was wrong, I was not, it brought tears to my eyes.

Kill’s history is no better with his own family and this will make you forgive him for his highly built emotional barriers. His ability to see past Cillas walls and his relentless need to slay her dragons made him my hero.

Kill and Cilla in their own way heal each other and it is beautiful and painful. Their love and passion are not enough to break their barriers. I was simply riveted by this story, the pace is perfect as is the suspenseful secrets.

The sexual scenes are frantic, sensual and loving, no two scenes are the same.

It was interesting to follow the change in the relationship dynamics between Cilla, Kill, and Jones. The characters grew and developed over the story which was impressive considering their mental, physical and emotional traumas.

The epilogue is heartwarming and has left me totally satisfied.

Review

First of all, I love the new covers of this re-released series, they are very attractive and fresh.

Siren in the City continues on from Small Town Siren and the relationship between Jack, Sam, and Abby that has hit a rocky patch.  Jack is definitely a different man to the one we left in book one.

I loved how Sam and Abby playfully get Jack to return to the dominant man they want back.  Sexual scenes in this book definitely felt more demanding and sensual with Jack returning as a Dom.   As Jack wheeled in a case for Sam it was so hilarious and it made me laugh out loud.

Julian is a wonderful character and to see Jack returning to the inner world of Domination helped to understand his fears for his relationship.

Siren in the City flows fast and introduces new characters that are going to help continue this series with decadent menage stories.

Concluding with a lovely surprise, Siren in the City was very satisfying.  I am sure we will see more of these three in the next Texas Sirens installment which just happens to be Julian’s story.

Winter of the Wolf (The Wild Hunt Legacy #2)

By Cherise Sinclair

Synopsis

After years in foster care, Breanne Gallagher has the stable life she’s always wanted, living with her foster-sister, working as a chef, enjoying her comfortable routines. Then one devastating night, a hellish creature invades her apartment and shatters her fragile existence. Shifting between monster and man, it slaughters her foster sister and assaults Bree. Alone, wounded, her beloved home tainted by gruesome memories, Bree flees to a tiny wilderness town, following her only clue to her past.

Shapeshifting warriors, Zeb and Shay move from one pack to another, hunting the hellhounds which prey on their kind. Assigned to Cold Creek, they take over management of a decrepit fishing lodge for their “human” cover. Their first renter is a pretty human female who trembles at the sight of them—yet stands her ground. Furious at the hurt they see in her eyes, the protective nomads are drawn into helping her. Although no shapeshifter is ever attracted to a human, her scent is oddly compelling, and her ferocious determination to conquer her fears ignites longings neither loner ever expected to face.

Bree is healing, learning to shoot the biggest pistol she can find, and overcoming her fears, especially of the two deadly, disconcertingly attractive hunters. Her life is getting back on track…until she tries to save a little girl from a hellhound and discovers everything she knows about herself is false.

Review

Winter of the Wolf being book 2 of the Wild Hunt Legacy had everything a romantic paranormal I love had.

Zeb and Shay were totally alpha, however, they were incredibly protective of Bree and fought their way to finding a home.

Winter of the Wolf although a romance also includes a couple of side storylines.  One included the local wolf pack and its dynamics and changing of the guard.  The Wolf Pack runs and the interactions at these times provided great action.

At the beginning when we first meet Bree the hellhounds are introduced.  Action and drama are continued throughout with  Zeb and Shay hunting them down.  Zeb and Shay definitely fought Bree’s demons and slowly allowed her to be able to feel safe again.

It was great to see Vicki, again and how she is adapting to her life as a shifter. When Callum assisted Bree in a  heartwarming manner at her first Gathering I felt such relief for her.

Bree’s family history was interesting along with how she grew up, she had such a compassionate and nurturing personality.  Personally, Bree was very easy to connect to from the first chapter.  Bree cooking, caring and assisting Zeb and Shay in the lodge business was just heartwarming.

This story flowed well for me providing high and low moments.  The sexual chemistry between these three was sensual, romantic but also highly erotic at times.

In conclusion, Winter of the Wolf continues the Wild Hunt Legacy series in an easy to read and was highly enjoyable.

Ripples

By Aleatha Romig

Synopsis

Ripples: A Consequences Stand-alone Novel

You don’t have to read the Consequences series to enjoy this stand-alone novel, but if you know Tony Rawlings, you know that disappointing him isn’t an option. Imagine being his youngest daughter…imagine telling him the unimaginable…

“Those who don’t know history are doomed to repeat it.”

Sometimes ideas find you, and dreams begin as nightmares. Sometimes the truth that has been kept hidden is the key to opening a door you never knew existed.

“You might not know me. I’m the baby of the Rawlings family, the princess, the daughter who came along later. I’m not like my older siblings, successful at everything they touch. My mother and father have provided me with every luxury as well as their unyielding love and support, but I’m not spoiled. I’m also not content. By example, my parents have shown me how love should be. I don’t know their past, and that doesn’t matter. I know what I’ve seen—two people devoted to one another.

I don’t believe that I’ll ever find that kind of love, the kind that forgives and accepts all. And as my life falls to pieces and I travel to visit my family to face their disappointment, I’m not even looking for it.

I’m looking for an escape…from my life as a Rawlings…from the pressure to achieve and not let others down. I dream of the time I can live for my own desires without the expectations that come with my name.

I don’t find what I’m seeking…it finds me. Or should I say…he finds me.

This time is different. I have a family who will search for me and find the answers. Little do we know—any of us—that my father set my journey into motion long before I was born.”

“Just as ripples spread out when a single pebble is dropped into water, the actions of individuals can have far-reaching effects.” ~Dalai Lama

Ripples (Unabridged Version) is Natalie’s story, the youngest of Tony and Claire’s children—their baby. This story first appeared in shorter form in Glamour: Contemporary Fairytale Retellings. Due to the length restriction of each novella in that anthology, many scenes in Ripples were shortened or omitted for that anthology. This unabridged edition is the entire story—double in length and—a full-length novel.

Please enjoy this Consequences novel along with special appearances from your favorite Consequences characters.

Review

Ripples left me wanting so much more for Nat and Dexter. The author notes at the end, let’s hope these characters keep talking so we can continue on the journey.  I loved this story of Claire and Tony’s younger daughter.  She is so like Claire in personality, it gave me the shivers.  I had not read the shorter version so this was a totally new romance for me!

The pace was perfect and the jumping of time in the hidden room was spot on.  Natalie’s experience was so much more intense than her mother’s so it was great to have a totally different feel, this was dark.  The way Dexter manipulates and conditions Natalie is frightening and yet left me aching for so much more. There are many clues woven from the Rawlings history into this story and it had me shaking my head wondering where we were going to be taken.

Unfortunately, I found myself hating Nichol in this story due to her lack of compassion for her sister. Underestimated as the younger child, I loved Natalie immediately.  It is going to be interesting if we are going to get behind the façade of Nichol and her hardness, what are her issues?

What I wanted more of was the conversations between Tony and Dexter, what happened in the study when they first meet.    The moments that Claire and Natalie have made my heart hurt for a mother’s love, that Claire knew in herself that things were not as they seem for her youngest.

I do hope we get more stories around the children of Tony & Claire, I want to see where Natalie and Dexter are going to be taken, how is Tony going to make Dexter see the Consequences of his actions?

Finally, again Phil is my hero as he always was when we first meet him in “Truth”, he has an undying love for all things Claire in such a protective way, including now her babies.

The ending of Ripples leaves me with more questions than answers.

Wicked Envy (Wicked Horse Vegas # 3)

By Sawyer Bennett

Synopsis

The best of friends.
Two men. One woman.
A sinful playground called The Wicked Horse.

Entrepreneur turned millionaire, Dane Hawthorne, has been known to get his kicks at The Wicked Horse Vegas, and he has no shortage of beautiful women waiting for a shot at him. Driven to succeed, no matter if he’s in the boardroom or the bedroom, Dane never backs down from a challenge.

Avril Carrigan isn’t the type of woman to take risks in her personal life but after a broken heart and too much liquid courage, Avril decides to best way to get over one man, is to get under another. Looking to experience all the debauchery she’s heard about from her best friend and business partner, Dane, she requests one thing of him—take her to The Wicked Horse.

The request seems simple. One friend helping another in her time of need. But now that they’ve crossed the threshold, things aren’t as easy as they once seemed. Not only is Dane looking at Avril in a new light, but so is their other business partner and best friend, Andrew Collings. As Dane’s envy blooms, he wonders if he made the right decision when he agreed to show Avril his wicked world.

What happens when the lines of friendship are blurred and boundaries are crossed? Will their relationships survive or will jealousy tear them all apart?

Review

I’m just going to come right out and say it: I couldn’t really get into WICKED ENVY.

I love a good threesome as much as the next girl, and the sex between Avril, Dane and Andrew was some of the hottest sex I’ve read in a long time.  As in it’ll give you tingles and make you want to reach for your husband/boyfriend/B.O.B. hot.  That being said, I did find it a little unbelievable that Avril’s first time trying anal was during a DP and that she was able to handle it like a pro.

What I couldn’t get my head around, and what ultimately affected my enjoyment of this story, was the sudden sexual relationship between Avril, Dane and Andrew after seventeen years of friendship.  Why?  Because in all that time, they’d never really had any sexual thoughts about one another, nor had any of them been secretly in love with one of the others, but one day they all just decide to start sleeping together.  All the while promising that it wouldn’t affect their friendship, while at the same time believing that their bond (a word that was overused throughout this book) would be even stronger because of the sex-without-emotions they were now sharing.  It was just so out of the blue and I wasn’t feeling it at all.

WICKED ENVY is told in the POV of all three friends and does come with a HEA, though it wasn’t the ending I was expecting.  I blame myself for that, because if I’d taken a better look at the cover and synopsis, I would have known in advance how this was going to end.  WICKED ENVY is the third book in the Wicked Horse Vegas series, but it can be read as a stand-alone without any problem at all.  While I may not have enjoyed this story as much as the others, that’s not going to stop me from reading the next book in the series.

My Hot Boss

By Betty Shreffler

Synopsis

Emma
From the moment I met Grayson Cole, I knew he was someone I wanted to let in my panties and maybe, even in my heart. One night, one sexy-as-sin kiss, and several drinks later, our incredible evening turns into a disaster and I’m apologizing for the vomit spatter on his fancy, black shoes. I never thought I’d see him again after that, no matter how many nights I spent wishing I would. Until a month later, he waltzes into my office as—MY NEW, HOT BOSS.
I’m so screwed.

Grayson
She was meant to be a fun f*ck. That’s all I wanted. That’s all I needed. But Emma Williams could never be just that for me. The quirky, brunette vixen challenges me at every opportunity. My desire to have her has me working for her affections, like I’ve never done before. What is this woman doing to me? Not only am I her Boss, but I don’t do feelings. There’s only one way I see this ending.
I’m f*cked for sure.

Review

My Hot Boss should have been called My Steamy Hot Boss.  Betty Shreffler has written a story with heart, heartache and steaminess.

Emma is a woman who has been through some heartache and is extremely careful about jumping back into the dating game.  In a way it seems like she has become resigned to the fact that she is never going to find that one guy.  I found her to be written honestly.  Even though she has been through a lot with her last relationship and her confidence is shaken, she gave everything of herself hoping for the same in return.  I loved her wit and her self doubt.

I could fall for Grayson.  He is a complex character that is learning about himself and what it means when someone else loves you.  But because of his family and his past, he was hold himself back from giving Emma what she really deserved.

Betty does an amazing job of drawing out these characters so by the end they feel like friends.  And she writes some very hot sex scenes.  I would love it if she would consider a book for Emma’s best friend!!

By J A Low

Synopsis

An unconventional love is tested to its limits in this completely immersive dark ménage suspense, for fans of JL Perry and Pepper Winters.

Mateo is used to being in the spotlight, he craves it in everything he does . . . except when it comes to his love life – that is firmly in the closet.

Tomas shuns the spotlight, the one he was born into, he wants nothing to do with it or his high-flying family who now reject him for his choices in love.

But Tomas’ and Mateo’s carefully constructed lives are turned inside out when they discover a beautiful, battered woman on their doorstep. The woman with the sapphire eyes has no memory of who she is or how she got there. Can they help her remember before the men who are after her find her first?

The first standalone book in the BRATVA JEWELS series from the author of the DIRTY TEXAS books, JA Low.

Review

Sapphire is an incredibly dark, dangerous and highly emotional read.   You are given some very intense and brutal scenes surrounding women that even I struggled with at times.

The menage scenes between Tomas, Mateo and Sapphire were very erotic however still held such warmth and emotion.  All three characters connection was built up at a slow and sensual pace.  I, therefore thoroughly enjoyed the time they spent together in their home.

The mystery surrounding Sapphire at the beginning of the story jumps times at the right places and you are in for a very wild ride.

The Bratva story is simply heartbreaking and will at times be hard to stomach but this is a dark romance.

Sapphire although a standalone concluded with the introduction of the next story’s dramatic turn of events for two supporting characters.

The Game (The Game Series # 1-7)

By LP Lovell & Stevie J. Cole

Synopsis

What would you do for one million dollars? Or rather, what wouldn’t you do? Would you play a game?

One contract. Two Guys. Three players. Four Strikes. Five rules. Six zeros. Seven days.

No safe words. No questions. Complete submission. Are you game?

Review

Judging by the synopsis, I thought THE GAME would be one hell of a kinky read; one with a little bit of a dark edge.  In the end, what I got with THE GAME was nothing like I was expecting⎯or hoping⎯for.  It was kinky, no doubt about that, but it wasn’t just a little bit dark; it was very dark and, in my opinion, sick and twisted.  I found the entire “game” to be bizarre and I just couldn’t make much sense of it.

THE GAME was originally released as a series of seven novellas, but it’s now been combined and released as a single book.  Even though it’s now a full story, it still has that novella feel to it because of its fast pace.  My Advance Reader Copy was in desperate need of a proofreader, as I lost count of all the spelling mistakes and missing words.  I can only hope that these mistakes have been fixed in the final published version.

THE GAME is told mostly in Ella’s POV, with the final chapter for each day being told in Tobias’ POV.  I will say this for THE GAME though: the M/F/M and M/M/F sex scenes between Ella, Tobias and Preston were so very, very hot.  That being said, the amount of anal sex without lube or preparation was, for lack of better words, butt-clenching and wince-inducing.  In the end, I would have just rated this story 1❤️, but I added another ❤️ because those sex scenes were fabulous and truly panty-melting.

Playing Irish

By Brooke Harris

Synopsis

Evangeline Andrews is quiet and unassuming, or at least she hopes that’s how people see her. Fleeing her life in New Jersey to hide in Dublin the last thing she needs are her secrets following her across the Atlantic. And what’s the best way to keep a secret? Keep your mouth shut.

Life is one big game for online-gaming genius Julian Harte, and he plays to win every time. Becoming a self-made millionaire before his 30th birthday, Julian’s office is his playground, and he sets the rules. Julian hasn’t lost a round yet and he’s used to getting everything he wants. He wants Evangeline. But she doesn’t want to play.

Meet the Irish Alpha with a rule-book as thick as his accent.

Review

Playing Irish is a story full of game playing both in the workplace and bedroom for Evangeline who is quite a lonely character.  I immediately connected with her and wanted to know more about her and I loved the  boat chapter and office ball where so much was explained finally.

Playing Irish for me started slow and then heads into a fast paced finish where so many secrets are revealed.  There are so many sex scenes and I admit at some points I was like less sex please and more communication between these characters as I wanted the emotional as well as the physical.

Personally I did not like Julian at all, I became quite frustrated with his hot and cold actions and really felt for Evangeline and actually wanted her to go with Nathan as he was at least being a friend if not a Stage 5 stalker friend.  I think in the end I got really sick of the games and just wanted some open and honest communication between the two main characters and her work environment was just weird in so many ways, especially the masked ball and how the girls were all excited and the top floor antics with Mr Doe?

Probably half way through this book I began connecting the dots in this Irish game and started realising who was playing what games with Evangeline and her isolated heart.

Playing Irish ends with the realisation there will be another instalment to Evangeline’s story and I would not call it a cliffhanger as I was left with some sort of closure.  The next book I think will actually be the one I really want to read now as I hope we get some clarity for Angeline and less Irish game playing as Angeline needs to close the chapter on her past to move forward and play the Irish way if that is what her heart wants.
