Broken Road (Limelight #1)

By Piper & Jack Davenport

Synopsis

Life on the road is hard, love on the road is even harder…

Lucy Haddon is rock royalty. She’s the daughter of one of the biggest rock stars on the planet and is now in charge of her father’s empire, including planning the most anticipated reunion in rock history. She’s no stranger to the dangers of touring life, but has always managed to stay out of trouble by following her own set of rules. Her biggest rule…no dating musicians…even when it comes to her teenage fantasy.

Bad boy drummer “Bam” Nelson’s band has just been offered the opportunity of a lifetime… the last thing he should be thinking about is women. The meteoric rise of his band and the crash landing of his last relationship has left him burned out and closed off, but when a red-headed rock princess walks into his life, he realizes she could be the one to finally heal the wounds of his past.

He just has to convince her to break her own rule.

Review

Broken Road is a surprising read for me as I do not normally enjoy Rock Star Romance however it had a great ensemble of leading and supporting characters and also had humour which was brilliant.  I have also loved Piper’s MC Romance so I was interested to see her take on this new world!

Firstly love Lucy and as any onion ring lover knows – onion rings solve all of life’s dramas and make everything good again – so Lucy is my kind of girl!

Considering Broken Road is written by two authors it flowed really well and kept its consistency and we are given quite a bit of background history on both bands.  With the series continuing to other characters it all formed a good base for when we pick up the next instalment “On The Road”.

Now Piper has a great knack of entwining characters from her other series and I have read the Dogs of Fire so I could follow random characters that appear in this story especially when the drama started to affect Bam and Lucy’s road to love.

Lucy’s parents were one of my most favourite components of this story!  They were funny and really explained Lucy’s overall outlook on love, life and no bullshit.  Sullivan Wallace her bodyguard was a constant companion for Lucy and I was enamoured with the way he cared for his girl. Bam was a typical artist and it was great to know the background of Roses for Anna and also Lucy’s dad’s band and their passionate love scenes were perfect.

My only complaint was I felt the story with Bam in the middle returning to his home was a little rushed and kind of thrown in to me and I was actually expecting a bit more drama/danger to Lucy/Bam?

I must admit I cannot wait to read “The Way Back” which  is Hadley & Jack’s story, I have a feeling it is going to be epic as Jack’s background story immediately pulled at my heart strings.

Favourite Quote:  “Hmm, onion rings. The meeting went that badly?”

Review

The Bad Guy is my fifth book by this author and it is my absolute favourite.

The Bad Guy is one of those stories that my god makes me think I need therapy because from the first few chapters I was right there in Sebastian’s corner wanting Camilla for him.  Every step of his “out of the box” way to get her to be with him – well I am sorry I forgave him and was hoping like hell Camilla would fall in love with him.

The author gives Camilla purpose, she is smart, has a passion and i really savoured her individual moments with her plants so thanks to the author for making her more than just a mans obsession.  Sebastian also showed an appreciation for Camilla’s passion and he fed and nurtured her as she did her plants – I loved this part of the story.

Sebastian pulls some questionable manoeuvres to obtain Camilla for some one of one time and well done for making parts of her life available to the fact she can disappear for a week and no one really notices.  The background story of her friends and job actually makes this quite believable and did not have me questioning the what if’s.  I was totally in the moment with these two characters and thoroughly enjoyed them making new boundaries in the agreement.

Now onto the supporting characters, loved his dad and his various talks with Camilla and his total love of his son.  I was glad my gut instincts were right about Link however the ending was a big surprise for me and I never would have guessed so there are some great twists and turns.

My favourite chapters were from 40 to 44, I was shaking and scared and had tears in my eyes, my heart hurt and I felt like I just wanted to hug Camilla – she was so strong and fearless.

The Epilogue made me so happy.

The last full-length novel for the Fallen Crest Series!

Review

The Fallen Crest series to me began with Samantha Stratton in FCH and we followed her journey through family breakup and finding her new family and fighting those battles as the “Threesome Fearsome”.    As a reader I was so glad Fallen Crest Forever was in all essence about Sam, her running (that had taken a back seat in the last two books) and all the pieces of her life falling into place both physically, mentally and also repairing so much damage from the adults in her life.   I loved the bond of Sam & Mason and Logan & Taylor growing towards adulthood and Logan was the one to have me tearing up on many occasions.

There were some incredibly hard scenes in this particularly towards the end but they were so needed to develop the characters into the adult world and making life decisions about their futures so to me it was perfect.  All characters to me matured and their inner thoughts upon the pages just tied all the loose ends together.

My comment on the Epilogue, at first I was upset upon reading the last section, I felt left out because as a reader I wanted to know how it all happened as we have followed everything good and bad together but upon reflection Tijan gave them privacy and I am happy they got to that point in their lives, particularly Sam, I feel at peace for her and ready to let her go.

Fallen Crest is just a wonderful series as it has a great group of characters and I really enjoyed all the adults that formed their outer circle.  I would love a book on Annalise and James as their relationship has intrigued me from the first book, James and Mason are such a strong force when upon the pages in the same scene, I would love to get into his head.

Farewell Fallen Crest – looking forward to seeing what other stories lay ahead in the world of Tijan.

 Lulu’s Review

I go by many names: Playboy, Hustler, Villain.

They call me a sadistic a-hole because I rob from the poor and cheat on the weak.

Do I ever regret the choices I’ve made? All the damn time.

But it’s too late to turn back, and too late to start over…

I’ve never even considered giving it all up for anyone or anything before. Never had a reason or motivation to change.

Until I met her.

Callista Rayner. Heiress. Goddess. Need-her-ass-up-on-my-mattress.

My last chance at redemption.

Problem was, I couldn’t afford to fall for her, because I didn’t want to ruin her.

I didn’t want to destroy her, like the others that came before.

Too bad I had no choice.

Too bad she was my pawn and I had to use her.

Too bad, too bad, too bad.

Sweet & Spicy Reads – “This is one twist and turn crazy book that has you gasping and shocked how truly one person can be a true villain in your life.”

Readers World Book Haven – “All in all, “Villain” is a brilliantly written thriller that grabs you and will have you on the edge of your seat. A definite must read.”

Reader Review – “Hot, suspenseful, with rollercoaster twists, emotional ups, and downs, and humor laced in between the detailed pages of these interesting read.”

I grew up under a grand delusion.
As a child, I pretended that I was a paper princess, hidden in a tower, awaiting my prince. Being with me came at an impossible price though, because I was kept by a wicked witch, someone who called herself my mother. I was a doomed Rapunzel, forgotten by the world.
All my life, I’d been a kept woman.
Kept in the cellar while my mother entertained foul men of all shapes and sizes, sometimes for hours or all night long.
Kept in the closet while my mother sucked her boyfriend’s cock.
Kept in the garage while my mother laundered bloody sheets and soiled blankets. While she scrubbed the walls and took out the trash.
My mother said she was born to serve. A born listener. A follower. Chosen for breeding. Hand-picked for pleasure…

Freedom and a meaningful life away from the violence of the Trassato Crime Family is all I ever wanted…

But what I want doesn’t matter now that I’m caught in a tug of war between two men in the dangerous world of organized crime.

Marcello Masciantonio is the man my father expects me to marry. He wants me because I’m the daughter of Dominick Trassato, New York’s most powerful crime boss. He says he’s my future, and I want to hate him, but I can’t deny the spark that burns between us.

Salvatore D’Amico is perfect. He supports me. He understands me. He’s willing to betray my father and give up his family to have me. He doesn’t care about the power that comes with being part of my family. He wants me for me.

My choice is simple, right?

Wrong.

Everyone has an agenda, including Salvatore and Marcello, and just when I think I have everything figured out, I realize I don’t know a damn thing.

Truths are lies. Freedom is lonely. But worst of all…

My love triangle is actually a hate triangle.

“Did you get everything you wanted?” I debated my answer for a split second and lifted my chin. “No. Not yet, but I’m hoping there are still some surprises in store for me. Maybe you can help me. I am the birthday girl after all. I’m pretty sure you have a duty to make all my wishes come true.”
“Hmm. Is that right?”
“Would I lie to you?”
One side of his mouth hooked up and I swear on everything holy my stomach fluttered. “That’s up for debate, but I’ll play along for now. What do you want?”
“So, um, I’m eighteen now and all, and I-I…” My courage stalled and I couldn’t get the request out of my mouth. I rolled my neck in a circle, unscrambling the tangled thoughts clouding my brain. He could say no, and without a doubt, I’d feel uncomfortable every time we ran into each other, and that was all right. I didn’t plan to remain under my father’s roof for more than another year anyway.
“I want a birthday kiss,” I blurted before my pride had the chance to edit my request.
His hand abandoned mine. “You do?”
“From you,” I added, heat crawling up my neck. Thank God for the darkness.
He glanced at the house and rubbed the back of his neck. “That’s not gonna happen.”
“Why?”
“Well, for starters, I think your dad would put a bullet between my eyes.”
“My dad is holed up in the study with the rest of the men drinking bourbon and smoking cigars.”
“That explains why it looked like a girls only party inside.”
“Yep.”
The corners of his eyes crinkled, taking me in and clearly deliberating the pros and cons of my request. “In that case…” He tugged on my sleeve, pulling me closer to him. “I think I need to do my duty and grant the birthday girl her wish.”
“You do,” I rasped out, my eyelids heavy, my heart racing, and my lips tingling in anticipation.

Review

Firstly, another great cover for this series, I love them all.  I have read Kon and Gian (Trassato Crime Family #1 & #2) and I highly recommend you read these aswell as although not linked I think you will understand the underlying mafia connections.

Emilia’s story I devoured, I had knots of fear and hurt in my throat, there were times I put the book down took a breathe and dived back in.  Emilia has so many people controlling her life, making decisions and at Chapter 21 I too felt so desolate with her.

The author wove the love triangle/hate triangle together perfectly, I was torn as to who was the good guy and bad guy, I changed corners like Emilia did and I too believed the lies and secrets and felt betrayed towards the end of this story.  This also answered questions and explained to me more in-depth the relationship between Emilia and her father as I had so many questions after completing Kon (Book #2).

When all is revealed at the end I was shattered and was willing Emilia to make her hardest decision of her life.

Now onto the ending, personally some readers will think it is a cliffhanger and yes in a way it is but you do get some answers but I still have so many questions and my god will Emilia: Part 2 have some explosive revelations?  If Emilia: book 2 was available I would have one clicked and downloaded that bad boy and continued my trip with Emilia to the point where she gets her justice.

I am actually going to go back and read Kon again as Emilia returns to the family fold and I want to go back and see if I missed anything.

I cannot wait to see what twists, turns and secrets the author is going to reveal in the next instalment of the Trassato Crime Family.
