My Review
Harlow Grace has delivered such an amazing story of two souls that really are broken after enduring tragedy and loneliness. They are loved by their individual parents yes but the inner demons these two battle is really intriguing.
Is Oliver the Monster Stepbrother to Maya or are they both trying to understand the cruel twist of fate that is handed to them. They have both lost a parent, are headstrong, fiercely independent and feed off each other, it is so interesting to witness the explosive interactions with each other as they grow up.
Oliver is one angry young man when they first meet and then as they grow into young adults so too does the anger, confusion, connection and chemistry. You will not find out the basis of his anger until well into the second part of the book and it all makes so much sense in that I actually forgave him for his actions. Maya lives with a deep sense of ownership of her mothers death which in itself is born from her father – he was a strange character and I really felt as if I did not get to really know him – he was so absent. When she breaks down throughout the book my god I had tears in my eyes along with her and found myself shaking with anger and pure frustration.
This story is quite heart breaking and two scenes that impacted me were Maya’s 18th Birthday along with when Oliver makes a life altering decision regarding his work and we see Maya and his mum say goodbye – cry bucket loads.
As the story progressed I must say Oliver’s mother to me is a standout character, I made the mistake of perceiving that woman in a particular way and was very surprised with her final part in this story. Quinn too was a strong supporter for Maya and I am so excited that Harlow Grace will be writing a story about her.
This is a standout dark romance for me, it had emotion, erotic scenes, drama and ultimately self discovery of what you can overcome as a human being – just brilliant story telling – I could literally pick this up again and start over – I am such a glutton for punishment.
