Synopsis
He can resist everything…except her.
For the first time in her life, art therapist Lucia Lewis is ready to live. And the masquerade ball in Las Vegas is just the place to find a ridiculously hot guy to complete her wicked to-do list. The only rule? Her elegant Venetian mask-which conceals the scars that have always held her back from the life she deserves-stays on.
Navy SEAL Cade Daniels heads to Vegas on a mission to keep his best friend’s little sister out of trouble. Except the woman he’s sent to find is all heat and flame…and perfectly capable of handling herself. And him. But the moment Lucia’s mask slips, the need to heal her, body and soul, is complete and absolute temptation.
But revealing himself could cost him the one thing he isn’t willing to risk…his heart.
Review
Ten years ago, Lucia was attacked by her foster father which left her with severe scars on her right cheek. Even in her home town, she’s so self-conscious about her scars that she remains hidden whenever possible. She hates when people stare at her or look on her with pity. But a masquerade ball in Las Vegas is her chance to get out and meet a man who will fulfil her sexual fantasies. Her only condition: the mask has to stay on.
Cade is on a mission to stop his best friend’s little sister from possibly making a mistake by sleeping with a stranger, but he can do that and still have some fun with the hot woman in the red dress, can’t he? But when he realises the hot woman and the sister are the same person, he’s torn between keeping his promise and giving Lucia and himself what they so desperately need. One night turns into two and a simple fling suddenly becomes complicated, with neither expecting to fall in love.
Cade: “I’m not in a position to offer promises right now. But walking away from you won’t be easy. Any man in my shoes would agree.”
TO TEMPT A SEAL is a very nice story, easy to read and easy to follow. The only thing that bothered me about the story was how quickly Lucia accepted having her scars on display, especially given how self-conscious she’s felt over the past 10 years. Lucia and Cade were very likeable and were perfect for each other. Lucia is an artist who donates her time helping children to express themselves through art. And Cade, well, Cade is a SEAL, so he’s a dominant, take charge, means what he says kind of guy. He was great and exactly what Lucia needed: a strong man to pick her back up and a confident man to give her her confidence back. When she discovers the connection Cade has to her sister, she handles the situation like a grown up, despite feeling hurt and betrayed. And I was so grateful to see that Cade didn’t have some cheesy grand gesture to win her back. He simply showed up, apologised and told her how he felt. It was perfect.
Cade: “I choose you. I choose us. Above everything else.”
