Run (NOLA Zombies # 1)

BR Run

Synopsis

Zombies are on the loose in New Orleans and of all the End of the World scenarios, Alexis Winter wasn’t prepared for this one. But, an apocalypse is an apocalypse and she should have this covered. She has been “prepping” for the last three years. The problem is location and timing. She’s stuck downtown and she has to get to her house on the outskirts of the city so she can get her supplies and bug-in (for the “non-preppers” this means hole up and stay safe).

Agreeing to work on a Saturday is now coming back to bite her on the ass big time. Hopefully, it won’t be a literal bite by the walking dead.

Luck favors the prepared, and as luck would have it, it comes in the form of the ridiculously hot Blake Miller. Former military man, current mercenary, Blake Miller, the man with the plan, his goal: steal a boat and trek up the Mississippi until they find safety. Alexis thinks this is a great plan and she decides to team up with Blake. The two team up in unexpected ways as they find they can’t keep their hands off of each other even when the world is falling down around them.

Can Alexis and Blake survive the end of the world, and if they do make it through the night, find a place that is safe and secure? Can their newfound attraction lead them down the road to love or heartbreak?

Zombies, sex, romance and carnage…you can’t get any better than this.

Review

Here are a couple of fun facts about me.  I like zombies and I like romance.  And maybe I’m just not looking in the right place, because I don’t often come across a combination of these two things.  In fact, I’ve only come across one other series, a series by Sarah Lyons Fleming, which I absolutely loved.  So when I heard about RUN, book 1 in a new zombie romance series, there was no way I was going to pass it up.

Alexis meets Blake after narrowly escaping her office building at the height of the zombie attack, an attack that was kept quiet by the government.  Both are very attracted to each other and quickly join up as partners rather than going it alone.  While they try to make it back to their houses for weapons and supplies, what starts out as “We might die tomorrow so lets bang as much as we can” quickly turns into “Make me forget what we just saw and did”.  When they reach safety, it simply becomes “We like each other, so let’s keep doing this”.  RUN is a novella that is filled with a lot of sex.  A LOT of sex.  Alexis and Blake can hardly keep their hands off each other, even having sex in situations where I would be running and making sure I was in a safe and secure place.  And the sex gets quite kinky, which to be honest, I didn’t think the story needed.

I expected a serious, possibly scary and disturbing novel involving a romantic element, so I was pleasantly surprised when it started out with a fair bit of dry humour while dealing with the zombie apocalypse.

There was no way fate would deliver the man of my dreams on the day the world ended just so we could be taken down by some asshole undead fucker.

But that humour quickly fades when the full impact of the zombies is witnessed, and then the story turns out to be one I expected.  I’m usually one of those people who can predict what’s going to happen next, or what the cliffhanger will be, and I don’t mind that because I’m a woman who loves being right.  Just ask my husband.  But the cliffhanger at the end came out of frickin’ nowhere and I totally DID NOT see it coming.  I’m so angry at Blake right now and Alexis should definitely kick him in the balls.

I can’t wait for FIGHT (book two) to come out.  I don’t know when it’ll be released, but I know it won’t be soon enough for my liking.  I.  WANT.  IT.  NOW.  I can’t be left hanging like this.
