My Review
Pure Punishment was when I finished this book and then awake at 3am the next morning still going over the characters and story in my mind and wanting Kai & Kristy and Kayla & Tyke back in my imaginative world. My first story by this author and what a privilege to receive an ARC. This is a story that has just blown me out of the water and I would pick this up again and read it and still learn something new from these characters.
T L Smith twists and turns and takes us on a journey of self discovery for the characters but the twists and punishments screw with you. The way the author introduces each character and then entwines us to them, share their issues, deceptions, anger, love and sorrow. For once I did not pick the curve ball until it was too late and I sat there looking at the pages asking myself how the hell did I miss that – true genius in story telling that is, I was so intent on learning about Kai, Kristy, Kayla and Tyke with all the sexual chemistry flowing and subsequent frustration it was probably how I got sucked into it all.
The song, the grandmother, the history, the sacrifices, the revenge, the redemption and connections all come crashing together. I appreciated how each chapter showed a perspective from a main character and then carefully entwined the storytelling to the next chapter. We may have jumped a day, night, week or a year but it still connected and flowed and I did not feel as if I lost a critical component of the end result.
God the ending, loved it, tears in the eyes, speechless, taking chances, accepting faults and forgiveness. The brain is connected to our heart and soul, it needs to be nourished and this story does that in the purest form.
