Flirting On Ice

Flirting On Ice is a cute novella from authors Veronica Forand and Susan Scott Shelley. I found these two authors in a book release party on FB where Miss Susan was promoting her books, love of hockey and love of hockey hunks. She’s a Flyers fan, but I won’t hold that against her. GO PENS!!!

If you’ve read a couple of my previous reviews you’ll know I. LOVE. HOCKEY!!! So as soon as I heard of another book out there on hockey romance, I snapped up my copy immediately.

Flirting On Ice is about a forbidden romance between NHL player Zac Elliott and the team owner’s daughter, Heather Ryan. The pair have been eyeing each other for months, but the owner forbids any player from dating his daughter and Heather doesn’t want to do anything that could jeopardise Zac’s chances of signing with the team again at the end of his contract. But true love and passion can’t be denied and the pair stop fighting their connection.

Of course, what’s a love story without a little drama. Their relationship gets leaked to the media and the pair pull away from each other: Zac to protect her reputation and Heather to protect his career.

There were a couple of parts that rubbed me up the wrong way. One was the public’s actions towards Heather, especially the one that went physical. I just can’t picture that happening in real life and because of that, that particular scene came off as unbelievable to me. The second was Zac’s teammates and how they turned their backs on him because of his relationship with Heather. I expected some warnings yet overall support, not the violent reactions he endured.

Other than that, I really liked this novella. Zac and Heather are both very giving people and their connection is hot. I really felt for Heather once she started being the victim of online bullying, and her breakdown over that was sad and believable in this day and age. And Zac’s attempt at winner Heather back was gutsy and romantic.

Book 2 (Dangerous Play) comes out in May and you can bet I’ll be buying it up quick smart.
