BR Finding Gavin

Synopsis

Gavin was a broken hearted cowboy from Savannah…

The one she fell for even though he tried to warn her away.

Maria’s entire life had been one rejection after another, always going after things that were just out of reach.

Gavin was no exception.

She wanted him, so desperately…

But life had a way of making things unattainable, at least for her anyway.

Just when things began to change, once again the darkness glooms, and Maria finds that her happy ending is again…

Unreachable.

Review

FINDING GAVIN is book 2 in the Southern Boys series and is the story of Gavin (obviously) and Maria, who started a dead-end relationship in FORGIVING REED.

Gavin, who’s wife cheated on him, is determined to never love again.  He continues to hold onto that notion after meeting Maria.  Sex without emotion is all he will offer a woman and he’s quite upfront about it.  Maria, who has abandonment issues stemming from when her father and four older brothers left when she was four, struggles with her feelings towards Gavin.  She understands his position, but that doesn’t stop her from falling and falling hard for the sexy cowboy.  Finally realising that Maria is nothing like his soon-to-be ex-wife, he is determined to correct the mistakes he made with her and give their relationship a real chance, but a tragic event tests his resolve and leaves Maria feeling devastated.  Slowly, the pair move on from their pasts towards the happy and fulfilling future they both crave.

“I have an unhappy cowboy giving me the stink eye.  I better go offer him some sort of kinky favor to get out of this one.”

I liked Gavin and Maria, but I didn’t fall in love with them like I did Reed and Kori, and I think that’s because there were a few potentially explosive and emotional scenes that I felt were skimmed over, especially with Maria.  Maria’s father is on his deathbed when she sees him for the first time in over 20 years.  There’s no yelling, no screaming about how badly he hurt her.  She lets go of all her hate and forgives him instantly.  She even finds out she has a nephew, but nothing further comes from that either.  Here is a broken family that could now be repaired, but nothing happens.  Gavin was the same as well.  After everything his ex-wife did, from cheating to dragging out the divorce, he simply lets it all go.  It was all just so neat and tidy.  Why do I feel let down by all this?  Probably because I’m a vindictive bitch who doesn’t believe that all that anger and hate can just disappear in an instant.  Because of that, I couldn’t really connect with either of them.  That being said, I thought they were a very nice couple who fought for each other and their future after overcoming some tough obstacles.  And the scene where Gavin takes her on the kitchen table?  HOT!!!

If you’re expecting to hop on the emotional roller coaster ride taken in FORGIVING REED, you won’t find it here, but that in no way detracts from the book. FINDING GAVIN had me tearing up in parts, but not enough to warrant a box of tissues be surgically implanted into my lap.  Trust me, that was required in FORGIVING REED.  This can be read as a stand-alone, but I would recommend reading FORGIVING REED first if you haven’t done so already.  There are a few updates about Kori and Reed’s relationship that I enjoyed reading about.  LOVING COLT (# 3) comes out on Valentine’s Day and after reading a snippet, I can’t wait for it to come out.  Will Colt also have Reed’s and Gavin’s “Thrusting Thighs”, or because he works with his hands, will we be hearing about his “Fuckable Fingers”?  Only time will tell.

“I found my future when I least expected it.  I want forever with you.”
