Synopsis
Gavriel Ambrosios has been dreaming of his accident prone mate for weeks. Now that he is nearing the apex of his vampiric transition, she has made her way to Lycaonia, just when he is at his most dangerous.
Elizabeth Monroe was planning on staying in Lycaonia while humans forgot about the swan dive she took out of her boss’s office window. Little did she know that this short side trip was about to become permanent. Gavriel is the mate she has always dreamed of. Even as he sweeps her off her feet his need to protect her has him pushing her away. She’s both concerned with and drawn to his darker nature, but is determined to see him through his transition.
In the shadows their enemy has targeted Gavriel when they know he is at his most vulnerable. They creep ever closer to the Alpha estate putting the men on high alert.
But as the days get shorter and the nights get longer Elizabeth begins to wonder, which is the bigger threat? The enemy or her mate?
Review
MY PROTECTER is the second book in the Bewitched and Bewildered series and was another read that I couldn’t put down. The story continues on from MY COMMANDER but follows the mating of Gavriel (vampire) and Elizabeth (shifter). Despite this book being about another couple, there’s still quite a bit of focus on Meryn, and it seems like the ongoing story arc will revolve around her.
Gavriel is a perfect example of the strong and silent type. I can’t really talk about him without giving away a pretty big spoiler, so all I will say is that he’s going through a very difficult time in his life cycle and Elizabeth couldn’t have timed her arrival more perfectly. Elizabeth is an accident prone bunny shifter. While she’s not related by blood, by mating she is the niece of the most powerful vampire in the world and therefore comes under his protection, and by “adopting” Meryn, she ensures Meryn is also under her uncle’s protection. She also has an amazing grasp of politics which makes her the perfect person to be at Meryn’s side. She’s considered young by paranormal standards, but because of the things she says and her ability to see connections that others can’t, I thought she was wise beyond her years.
“I was actually thinking about how incredible the mating process is. We were strangers this morning, yet I can’t imagine tomorrow without you. Then I thought, if I feel this way in just the first day, I wonder how my parents feel having been mated for over a hundred and fifty years now.”
MY PROTECTOR is told in dual POVs, with the epilogue being told in Colton’s POV, who will get the next book. Meryn is still bat-shit crazy, but you can’t help but love her and the crazy things she comes up with. As with the previous book, there’s a huge amount of humour and scenes that will leave you chuckling. The condom shopping scene was hilarious. I can’t wait to get started on the next book.
