Synopsis
Fun loving wolf-shifter Colton Albright’s usual concern…his next meal, has been replaced by haunted dreams. The nightly visions of the sad, anxious face of his mate have this jovial jokester withdrawing from his fellow Alpha Unit members.
Rheia Bradley is a dedicated professional that lives to help others, but has long forgotten how to help herself. When she arrives in Lycaonia seeking the protection of the warrior units, Colton is ecstatic to discover that she’s his mate. His relief is quickly eclipsed by one small problem, a tiny, solemn four-year-old girl who happens to be his mate’s adopted daughter. Which means… he is now a father!
While Rheia settles into her new job, Colton and all his fellow warriors are about to get a crash course on little girls. The men quickly learn that not one ounce of their centuries-long training has prepared any them for this precocious child.
When Rheia uncovers something about their enemy that puts her name next to her daughter’s on their hit list, Colton is willing to do anything to keep his new family safe. But will it be enough?
Review
MY HEALER is the third book in the Bewitched and Bewildered series and was another read that I couldn’t put down and finished quickly. The story continues on from MY PROTECTOR and follows the mating of Colton (shifter) and Rheia (human). Again, despite this story being about another couple, a fair bit of the story revolves around Meryn and the impact she’s having on the military units and the paranormal world.
“My name is Colton Albright. I’m your escort into Lycaonia.”
“How do I know that? Do you have any ID?”
“Do you mean the official Lycaonia ID that states I’m a wolf-shifter from a secret paranormal city? No, I left that in my other pair of pants.”
“You don’t have to be snarky about it.”
Rheia has been surrounded by paranormals for most of her life, but that hasn’t prepared her for life at Lycaonia. Nor has it prepared her for when she discovers that Colton is her mate and what it means to be mated. She’s a wonderful mother to her adopted daughter, Penny, who is an orphaned shifter. Penny is heartbreakingly adorable and it was wonderful seeing her blossom at Lycaonia. Colton is the fun, friendly, jokester member of the Alpha Unit. That’s not to say he doesn’t take things seriously, but if he can make a joke to lighten a situation, he will. When it comes to Rheia and Penny, he’s an absolute sweetheart.
“I’ll love you until the day I pass from this world. Even as my body turns to dust, I will wait at the very veil of existence for you to join me, because heaven would be incomplete without you.”
MY HEALER is told in dual POVs, with the epilogue being told in Darian’s POV, who will get the next book. Despite the large number of characters introduced in the first book, more characters are being introduced as the series continues so it’s still really hard trying to keep track of who’s who. We’ve learnt a bit more about the ferals and what they’ve been doing, but I get the impression that we still have a long way to go before we see any real resolution with this story arc. Once again, there were a lot of laughs to be had, from the nappy shopping scene to the poker playing scene to the Penny training scene, just to name a few. Looking forward to book # 4.
