Synopsis
Is it possible to expose Chicago’s hottest player–without getting played?
This is the story I’ve been waiting for all my life, and its name is Malcolm Kyle Preston Logan Saint. Don’t be fooled by that last name though. There’s nothing holy about the man except the hell his parties raise. The hottest entrepreneur Chicago has ever known, he’s a man’s man with too much money to spend and too many women vying for his attention.
Mysterious. Privileged. Legendary. His entire life he’s been surrounded by the press as they dig for tidbits to see if his fairytale life is for real or all mirrors and social media lies. Since he hit the scene, his secrets have been his and his alone to keep. And that’s where I come in.
Assigned to investigate Saint and reveal his elusive personality, I’m determined to make him the story that will change my career.
But I never imagined he would change my life. Bit by bit, I start to wonder if I’m the one discovering him…or if he’s uncovering me.
What happens when the man they call Saint, makes you want to sin?
Review
The mission: Rachel needs to write an expose that will save the magazine she’s employed at. She’ll need to do whatever it takes to close to one man whom the media have been vying for for years. Get on the inside. Find out what makes him tick. Find out all the personal details that’s never before been made public. Get in deep and get published before he knows what’s coming.
The mark: Malcolm Kyle Logan Preston Saint. Billionaire entrepreneur, most-eligible bachelor and manwhore of Chicago. Ruthless, they say. A complete manwhore, they say. And so ambitious he’d put Midas to shame. They say Saint won’t rest until he owns the world.
Rachel gets her in under the guise of interviewing Malcolm on his latest venture that’s set to take the world by storm and compete directly against Facebook. First impressions are everything, and despite not being ready nor dressed for the last minute interview, she makes quite an impression on him. So much so she’s able to request more time with him to continue their interview. But his interest in her is not entirely professional and after spending more and more time together, neither is hers. When things start getting personal, Rachel is left confused about the situation and her feelings for Chicago’s biggest playboy. She has to make a choice: write the article and save her magazine; or risk losing her heart to an unattainable man.
Overall I liked this book. It caught and held my attention and I was left wishing the second book was already out because I want to know what happens next. That being said, I did have a couple of issues with it. Just little things, like despite seeing him several times for interviews, there’s never much of an interview. Hardly any questions get asked, and worse, most of those questions don’t even get answered. And sometimes I couldn’t make sense of the conversations. Every now and then they felt disjointed and I felt like I had missed something.
Malcolm. What can I say about Malcolm? Does he act like a man who has the world at his feet? Yes, because he does. Is he a manwhore? Yes, because women throw themselves at him every day wanting to brag about bagging the Saint, so why not. Yet I found Malcolm to be more than just a rich playboy. He’s a very busy and active man, always on the go both professionally and privately, yet he’s very quiet, not letting anyone inside. He’s never alone, but he’s always lonely. I found him to be very sweet, especially when it came to Rachel.
“What’s your idea of rocking a girl’s world?”
“You tell me.”
“Me? What do I have to do with it?”
“I’ve never wanted to rock a woman’s world the way I want to rock yours.”
I liked Rachel, but she annoyed me a little as well. She goes in knowing she’ll have to do whatever it takes to get the expose, yet right from the start she’s questioning about getting involved with him personally. And while she’s constantly pushing him away, she’s needy, always seeking validation from him. When she starts to unravel the man beneath the business suit, she likes what she sees, and it’s here that I totally understanding her conflicting emotions and her struggles with deciding what was the right thing to do. All I wanted to do was shout at her to see the changes he made for her. To see all the things he’d done for her just because it was her.
I’ve never felt so much like a girl until this moment, when my hand feels tiny and fragile in his strong grip.
MANWHORE is book 1 of the Manwhore series and this book does end in a cliffhanger. MANWHORE +1 comes out July 7, 2015 and is already available for pre-order. If you can wait that long for book 2, you’re a stronger person than I am.
“I’m not the guy anyone comes to for comfort, Rachel. But I like that you came to me.”
