By Jane Porter
Christmas at Copper Mountain is book 1 in Jane Porter’s Taming of the Sheenans series. At the time of this review, books 2 and 3 have also been released, but there are five brothers in total and each will be getting their own book.
Three years ago, Harley lost her husband and three children and is still grieving their loss, especially around the holidays. Brock is also still grieving the loss of his wife almost 11 years ago, leaving him to raise their 6 month old twins alone.
Deciding that she can’t be around her family and their children for Christmas, Harley accepts a temporary job as Housekeeper at Brock’s Copper Mountain Ranch. Her job is to keep the house in order and feed Brock and his ranch hands. Her plans for a child-free Christmas are ruined when Brock’s 11 year old twins arrive home for the holidays.
After quitting and while waiting days for her replacement to arrive, Harley finds her heart slowly opening up to Mack and Molly and yearning to be a mum again. Brock, witnessing the positive changes in his kids and around his house, rediscovers his own loving heart as he slowly opens up to the possibility of loving another woman.
There’s not really a lot to say about this book other than it was a light and enjoyable read. There’s a little bit of making out, but no sex scene. There is sex but the author skips right over the entire passionate act. So if you’re after a book that gets your heart pumping and requires you to change your panties, this isn’t it. But if you’re after a book that is beautifully written and involves a very sad but heartwarming story, then this book is for you.
Harley: “What are you thinking?”
Brock: “That you look like an angel on my bed.”
Harley: “You say the nicest things.”
Brock: “I don’t like talking, so I only say what I mean.”
So sweet.
While I found Christmas at Copper Mountain to be enjoyable, I felt the book wasn’t really my style and I don’t think I’ll be reading the following books in this series.
