Leo’s Chance

By Mia Sheridan

BR Leo's Chance

Synopsis

Does everyone deserve a second chance? Even someone who lies and deceives to get it?

Do we all have a second chance coming? Even if we play a part in our own destruction?

How hard would you fight to have a second chance at love? A second chance at life? Another chance to tell your own story?

Every love story has two sides. Evie told hers. This time it’s Leo’s chance.

Review

I’m not going to go too much into this one as LEO’S CHANCE is just a companion novel to LEO, this time told in Leo’s POV.  What’s different?  We get a glimpse into Leo’s therapy sessions.  We get a glimpse into his interactions with his mother and we find out what happened to her.  We also get two completely different epilogues which are told in Evie’s POV.  What’s the same?  Pretty much everything else, which is why I found myself a little bored and ended up skipping large sections of the story that were a repeat of what we already knew.  At one point I thought about not finishing it, but after putting it down and reading a couple of books in between, I decided to pick it up again and I was glad I did.

Coming Apart At The Seams (Riley O’Brien & Co # 2)

By Jenna Sutton

BR Coming Apart At The Seams

Synopsis

Love can take some time to break in…

Teagan O’Brien, heiress to the Riley O’Brien & Co. denim empire, is anything but a spoiled rich girl. She’s worked hard to secure her place in the family business and can hold her own, in and out of the office. Only one man has ever been able to get under her skin—sexy football star Nick Priest. Years ago they crossed the line from friends to lovers, but he left her heartbroken. Since then, she’s been determined to keep him at arm’s length—no matter how tempting he looks in his jeans…

Nick has fortune, fame, and looks that make most women hot and bothered. But he doesn’t have the woman he really wants. He knows he screwed up when he walked away from Teagan, and now that he has a second chance, he’ll do whatever it takes to win her over—no matter how tongue-tied he gets…

Review

Nick has known Teagan and her family for fifteen years through a friendship with Teagan’s older brother, Quinn.  Four years ago, Nick found out he moved to the same city as Teagan after being traded and reached out to her for some company.  Friendship slowly turned into something more, until Nick freaked out and shattered Teagan’s heart, leaving her a shell of the woman she used to be.  Years later, Nick is back and desperate to make amends.  He’s been trying for nearly two years to get a chance to explain, but as far as Teagan is concerned, he had several chances years ago and didn’t take any of them, and she’s not interested in hearing it now.

I liked that Nick acknowledged he treated Teagan terribly and was upfront about what he wanted from her now⎯her heart.  I really hurt for Teagan over everything she went through with the breakup.  He obliterated her trust as a friend and a lover and he really had to work hard to earn it back.  There’s a lot of inner monologue about Nick’s stutter and his non-existent relationship with his father, and I have to admit I found that annoying.  We know he has a stutter.  We know that his father is a jackass.  We get it.  Let’s move on.

COMING APART AT THE SEAMS is told in dual POVs and starts in the present before we’re catapulted four years into the past to find out how Nick and Teagan went from friends to lovers.  It’s book two in the Riley O’Brien & Co series and while it can be read as a stand-alone, I think I would have benefited from reading the first book.  There are incidents mentioned involving Teagan and the previous couple that had me feeling like I was missing something pretty big.  I quite enjoyed this book and I have to say it’s probably the most realistic friends-to-lovers story I’ve read.

‘Tis The Season To Be Tempted

By Aimee Carson

BR Tis The Season To Get Tempted

Synopsis

After the worst year ever, free-spirited Evie Lee rings in the New Year alone, swearing off men forever. So when her brother’s childhood friend, the perfect man with the perfect life, winds up on the same plane home, she’s determined to ignore him. Wes is determined not to take her seriously. Unfortunately a snowstorm traps them at the airport with no way to finish their commute, and his perfect body is tempting her to break her vow—if only for one hot night!

CEO Wes Campbell is famous for always doing the right thing, and running into Evie again is torture. He’s determined to continue his hands-off attitude. But he wasn’t counting on the little hellion’s infectious smile, her killer body, or the vulnerability in her eyes. For the first time in his life, Wes is tempted to do the wrong thing…

Review

Wes hasn’t seen Evie, his best friend’s little sister, in ten years and time hasn’t diminished his attraction to her.  But he would never betray his friend or her parents by giving in to his feelings, at least that’s the plan until they’re stuck in a snowstorm together on New Year’s Day.  Their only option is to crash at a hotel until they can continue on their trip back home.

Wes is a hard working CEO and fits better with Evie’s family than she does.  She’s your typical free wild-child who’ll do the exact opposite of what you want just to spite you.  To be honest, I felt no connection between Wes and Evie at all.  But the kitchen utensil scene was funny and hot and probably the best part of the story.

‘TIS THE SEASON TO BE TEMPTED is a stand-alone novella, with the story taking place on New Year’s Day.  As with the other ‘TIS THE SEASON novellas, the story ends with Wes and Evie beginning a relationship.  ‘TIS THE SEASON TO BE TEMPTED can be bought separately or as part of the ‘Tis The Season Bundle, which is a collection of four Christmas & New Year novellas.

Undeniably Asher

by K L Kreig

Undeniably Asher

Synopsis

Book 2 in the The Colloway Brothers series. Each book can be read as a standalone.

Memories.
When does our past stop picking at our scars and start letting them heal?

Scars.
Can we see beyond our wounds to the possibilities the future holds?

Possibilities.
How do we let ourselves become vulnerable enough to trust the love that’s right in front of us?

Fate. She’s a fickle, wily bitch that slaps us in the face every opportunity she gets. Sometimes it’s a taunt, but sometimes it’s a goddamn wake-up call to pay attention. Take what’s rightfully yours without shame or apology. So when destiny put me straight in Alyse Kingsley’s path once again, I knew this was one slap I wasn’t ignoring. I’d let her get away once. I wouldn’t again. She was mine and I was takin’ her, kicking and screaming if need be.

Alyse ~ Deceit and betrayal. Every single person who was supposed to love me committed one of these.
My mother.
My father.
My sister.
My lover.
Incapable of letting people see the real me, I hold them at arm’s length. But Asher Colloway is relentless and it doesn’t take long before I cave to his pursuits. The big question is: can I let him in where it counts most? Before ghosts from my past come back to haunt me in ways I can’t possibly fathom? Before it’s too late?

Asher ~ Trust. Forgiveness. Impossible concepts, having been fucked over by a woman I’d loved before. But those aren’t my only personality flaws.
I’m possessive.
I’m jealous.
I’m dominant.
I have a secret kink.
I want Alyse. All of her. She shows people the shiny, untainted surface. I want the murky, damaged depth. The shadows. I want in all the way. Just when I think I’ve made it, fate cruelly bitch-slaps me again. And this time I don’t see it coming. The question now is: what am I willing to do to keep the woman I love by my side? And can Alyse accept me the way I am, faults and all?

My Review

I loved and craved this story, the domination, emotion, passion and pure love was simply breathtaking and heart breaking.  Asher and Alyse were two pieces to a long forgotten puzzle that simply needed them to connect to repair their shattered souls and move forward.

I have not read book 1but will be and you do not need to read this to enjoy Asher’s story.

The Colloway brothers are a strong and dynamic unit and they all intrigued me and I guarantee once you turn that first page it will grip your heart till the last chapter.

This story had not only emotion and love but secrets, lies, deceptions and great family moments – undeniably a beautiful romantic story.

Compromising Her Position

By Samanthe Beck

BR Compromising Her Position

Synopsis

He’s not who she expected, but he’s exactly the man she needs…

When Chelsea Wayne drags Santa into a supply closet for a little office party nookie, she assumes the man in the suit is her on-again/off-again coworker boyfriend. Instead, it’s Rafe St. Sebastian, a man known for his hard-driving ways in business as well as the bedroom—and, kill her now, the brand spanking new owner of Las Ventanas—who grants her naughtiest Christmas wishes.

So much for her reputation, not to mention her career.

Rafe needs to close three acquisitions to prove to his father he’s ready to take the helm of St. Sebastian Enterprises. A hot interlude in a supply closet after deal number two seems like the perfect illicit Christmas bonus. Unfortunately, when that “bonus” becomes the key to the final deal, he finds himself back in bed—so to speak—with Chelsea, and after their steamy tryst, he’s not interested in keeping things professional…

Review

When Chelsea sees her boyfriend and boss, Paul, dressed in the Santa costume she wanted him to wear at their hotel’s Christmas party, she pushes him into a closet and has the best sex of her life.  But soon after she realises that Santa wasn’t Paul, but was in fact Rafe St. Sebastian, the hotel’s new owner and her new boss.  Awkward.  Before she gets a chance to confess to Paul what she unknowingly did, he drops his own bombshell, causing her to quit on the spot and move away to get a fresh start.  Rafe’s dream is to take over the St. Sebastian empire from his father; a dream that will only come true after he completes three successful hotel acquisitions.  His dream is almost derailed when he learns that Chelsea, the woman he slept with and who was instrumental in the running of his second acquisition, has quit.  He tracks her down at her new hotel and figures he can kill two birds with one stone⎯complete the third and final acquisition and get Chelsea in his bed and out of his head.  For him, it’s a win-win situation.

Apart from fucking Santa in a closet, I thought Chelsea was a smart and level-headed woman as well as a loyal friend.  When Paul was cruel to her during their breakup, she didn’t take what he said to heart.  Rather she saw his words for what they were – a deflection of guilt and blame from a man who didn’t deserve her.  Rafe was hot, cheeky, flirty and confident, but I also thought he was a little callous with Chelsea’s feelings.  He didn’t want to hurt her and he was very upfront about what he was after, but he didn’t seem to care about her professional hesitations or that she’d just been shafted by her boyfriend.

I’ve seen some reviews that complain about the first sex scene between Chelsea and Rafe in the supply closet.  She assumes it’s Paul, but Rafe isn’t aware of that.  He just gets jumped by a hot woman and goes along with it.  Smart?  No.  It’s not until they’re finished and she calls him “Paul” that he realises what has just happened.  While it could be considered a gray area, it’s certainly not rape and that scene didn’t bother me at all.  I really enjoyed reading COMPROMISING HER POSITION.  I thought it was funny, that Chelsea and Rafe had amazing chemistry and that everyone got exactly what they deserved.  And the sex scenes?  Hot!  Hot!  HOT!!!!!  Seriously, the scenes between Chelsea and Rafe were some of the hottest I’ve read in a long while.  A change of panties may be required prior to reading this book.  You’ve been warned.

Chelsea:  Holy career suicide.  I accidentally had sex with one of the most powerful players in the industry.

Something About Lorelei

By Sandi Lynn

27421692

Snyopsis

My name is Jack Sutton, CEO of Sutton Fashion Magazine and I have the world at my fingertips. A successful career, loads of money and beautiful women who were always at my beckoning call. My problem? I lived under the shadow of my mother who started the company over thirty years ago. Not to mention her being married and divorced six times, left a bad taste in my mouth as far as relationships were concerned.
“Women to me were nothing but mere toys. They were meant to be played with for my own personal pleasure and when I was done playing, they’d get tossed to the side.”
Then walked in Lorelei Flynn. She was beautiful, and so wrong for me. The problem? She was my personal assistant and she was closed off to say the least. Despite being the beautiful woman she was, I had an overwhelming need to find out what was underneath all that beauty. It was something I couldn’t explain. It was just something about Lorelei.

My name is Lorelei Flynn and I was Jack Sutton’s fifteenth personal assistant in a little over a year. My boyfriend was killed seven years ago in a car accident. Before he died, he gave me a gift: my daughter Hope. My life did nothing but revolve around her. I didn’t date and I hadn’t had sex in seven years. Then Jack Sutton came into my life and he was as sexy as sin but he was nothing but a womanizer and my boss. The line was there the day I took the job and it was one that couldn’t be crossed. Or shouldn’t be crossed. But it was crossed and now the only world I’d known was suddenly changing and it scared the hell out of me.

My Review

This is a modern day Cinderella and Prince Charming love story, it has all the fluff and feel good happy moments with second chances and being in the right place and the right time.  Hope steals the storyline in my opinion and you can easily follow where this story is going to progress to.  It would have been nice for some curve ball surprises but this is still a lovely romantic tale and a very light easy read.

I did like how at the end of this story we got transported way ahead into the future and were able  to see how everything turned out for them, I always love seeing how characters lives turn out after the main romantic tale has long finished.

I have read other stories by Sandi Lynn and must say Conner and Ellery are still my favourite couple.

‘Tis The Season To Get Lucky

By Heidi Rice

BR Tis The Season To Get Lucky

Synopsis

Unlucky-in-love PR manager Kate Braithwaite doesn’t think her Christmas could get any suckier. Until a trip into work on Christmas Day leaves her snowbound in the Fifth Avenue department store with her boss’s far-too-tempting playboy son Ryder Sinclair. Ryder’s rugged, reckless and none too pleased to be stuck in a place he hates with an uptight workaholic like Kate—but as the night draws on, the lights go out and the temperature rises, until they’re both wondering is this the season to get lucky?

Review

Kate is heading to her job at Sinclair’s on Christmas Day, trying to ignore the fact that she’s all alone on Christmas and that her long-distance boyfriend dumped her.  Just. That. Morning.  Ryder is the heir to the Sinclair’s fortune and is also at the store trying to find a Christmas present for his daughter.  When they bump into each other, their first impressions of the other are not that great.  Kate thinks Ryder is nothing more than a wealthy playboy who wouldn’t know an honest day’s work if it bit him on the arse, and Ryder thinks Kate is nothing more than a cold-hearted workaholic just like his father.  But when a snowstorm hits and they’re forced to spend the night stranded together inside the department store, they quickly learn that sometimes, first impressions aren’t entirely accurate.

‘TIS THE SEASON TO GET LUCKY is a really cute novella, with the story mostly taking place on Christmas Day.  This is a standalone and while there’s no cliffhanger, there’s not really an ending either.  But the ending that is there shows the beginning of their HEA.  ‘TIS THE SEASON TO GET LUCKY can be bought separately or as part of the ‘Tis The Season Bundle, which is a collection of four Christmas & New Year novellas.

James suffered a tragic loss four years ago and has since kept his focus on work. He’s built Owens Ammunition from the ground up to be a very successful company. One night, one dance, one fateful meeting that changes two lives forever. Will he find that he’s stronger with her?

My Review

Loved this emotional and passionate read, both Stephanie and James were great characters and quickly I became invested in their happiness being secured through each other.

James and his brothers at the Ammunition company were a solid unit and their strength and support in each other was a great aspect to this story as was Stephanie and her inner girl posse. James’s assistant was a particular favourite for me, she was his Miss Money Penny.

The background stories for both James and Stephanie were different but tragic all the same and again it just gave another depth to this great romantic story and from start to finish this love story flowed well for me.

Her little dirty secret was naughty but nice and Stephanie had such strength, James definitely became Stronger With Her love.

Friction (Legal Affairs # 8)

By Sawyer Bennett

BR Friction

Synopsis

At the powerhouse law firm of Knight & Payne, winning comes first and ethics a distant second. Leary Michaels uses her female charms to daze opponents, and it’s always worked well—until now. On her most personal case yet, she finds herself going up against a defense attorney just as skilled, shameless, and seductive as she is.

Reeve Holloway has never met a woman as sure of her own sexuality, or as ruthless in wielding it, as Leary is. But he won’t be toyed with. What Leary starts, he’ll finish—in the courtroom, the bedroom, or any-damn-place he wants. The sex is uninhibited, electrifying, and absolutely against the rules. Reeve’s job is to ruin Leary’s case…even if it destroys her in the process and costs him the woman he’s come to love.

Review

Leary is a very smart, young woman who knows how to use all her assets to her benefit.  She’s very successful, having made junior partner at her law firm years before she turned 30, and she did it all without having to sleep her way to the top.  The current case she’s working on is very personal to her and no other win will be as important as this one.  Reeve is the hot defense attorney on her case and he also intends to win, even if he thinks his client deserves to lose.  He will work within the law to ensure he ruins Leary’s case and secure another win for his greedy bosses and heartless client.

When Leary and Reeve first meet, sparks fly.  They both walk a very fine line when they agree to pursue a sexual relationship while acting as opposing counsel.  That fine line gets even thinner when the relationship becomes emotional and Reeve learns why this case is so important to Leary.  While both agree the case won’t come between them, how can they separate the personal from the professional when Leary has so much of her heart invested?

Wow.  What a read.  And what a lot of hot and raunchy sex.  Sex in a public bathroom.  Sex on the kitchen counter.  Sex in the office.  Other than the sex and the relationship between Reeve and Leary, the story spends a lot of time discussing the case.  And for me, I thought the case was the best part of this story;  it was smart and I loved reading about it.  My heart was racing when the trial started because I was so hoping that Leary would win, but at the same time I was afraid she wouldn’t because Reeve was very good at his job.  It had me guessing right until the end.  FRICTION is told in dual POVs and while it’s part of a series, it can be read as a standalone.  It doesn’t end in a cliffhanger and does come with a HEA.

‘Tis The Season To Kiss Santa

By Kate Hardy

BR Tis the season to kiss santa

Synopsis

With the help of a sprig of mistletoe and some snow angels, a recently single pastry chef teaches a highly successful and sexy Scrooge the true meaning of the holidays on a snowy Christmas Eve that quickly heats up.

Review

Mitch hates Christmas because the season stirs up too many painful memories of his crappy childhood with his dysfunctional family.  More than happy to work over the holiday season, he thinks his work ethic has him a shoo-in to take over his boss’s position when he retires.  But his boss wants more than just a hard worker; he wants a man with heart and “asks” Mitch to take over his role as Santa at a local hospice.  Ellie loves Christmas and is more than happy to fill in for her Godmother at the hospice.  From their first meeting, the two couldn’t be more different, but differences get put aside when they end up stuck in a snowstorm together.  One night changes everything for Mitch and Ellie in a way they never saw coming.

‘TIS THE SEASON TO KISS SANTA is a very cute and quick read, with the story mostly taking place on Christmas Eve.  This is a standalone and while there’s no cliffhanger, there’s not really an ending either, but the ending that is there is happy.
