Review
LOVING COLT is book 3 in the Southern Boys series and is the story of Colt and Alexis. While this book could be read as a stand-alone, I recommend reading FORGIVING REED and FINDING GAVIN first.
Colt was introduced to us in book 2 as one of Maria’s older brothers. He’s now living in Brooklet and has made a name for himself with his woodworking business. Alexis and her daughter Maddison are on the run from an abusive ex-boyfriend, driving from San Diego to Florida to move back with her family. A call of nature forces Alexis to spend the night in Brooklet and her first interaction with Colt is when he picks up the tab for the girls’ dinner. Swoon. Literally bumping into Maria at the grocery story the next day, the ladies meet again when Maria notices Alexis has car troubles. With next to no money and forced to stay in Brooklet a little longer than anticipated, Maria offers her mother’s house and spare room. What a shock for Alexis when she realises the kind man from the night before is Maria’s brother. With Maria playing match-maker, Colt and Alexis meet again.
Colt: “If I would’ve known about all the pretty ladies in this house, I think I would have come over sooner.”
A bond quickly forms between Colt and mother and daughter. After her troubles with Seth, she’s quick to tell Colt they’ll only be friends after he tells her he wants more. With his feelings hurt, he avoids her and doesn’t realise how stupid that is until it’s too late: she’s gone back to Florida. Finally coming to his senses, he follows her there to plead his case, winning over her family at the same time. His goal: to get his two girls back and bring them home to Brooklet.
Colt: “The moment I walked into my mother’s house and I saw them there, laughing and smiling, I knew I wanted them in my life.”
LOVING COLT was another very sweet read from C.A. Harms and a great addition to the Southern Boys series. As with FINDING GAVIN, the end includes some snippets from Kori, Reed, Maria and Gavin about where they’re at and how happy their lives are. I wonder if there’ll be a book 4 and who it will be about. Quiet and serious Jett? Or Horndog Harper? I’m hoping for Harper. She sounds like she’d be a riot to write and read about.
Harper: “It should be illegal for country boys to wear jeans and cowboy boots, because it does things to girls that are kinda dangerous.”
And so I leave you with this final snippet.
Colt: “You both grabbed a hold of me, and I never want either of you to let me go.”
