Synopsis
Julie Simon returns to Saginaw, Michigan, to find her ailing father’s missing research on local shapeshifter lore. Unlucky for her, the only person who can help her is the darkly sexy Mark Robertson, the guy who spent an entire summer giving her the cold shoulder-and one white-hot night of pleasure…
Mark is a hair’s breadth away from going feral. Soon, his grizzly side will destroy everything that makes him a man. And after years of fighting, Mark is ready to give in to the beast. Then Julie-the gorgeous, curvy book nerd who awakened his most primal desires as a young man-shows up at his door. Now, he’s fighting an insatiable longing to claim her as his mate. But Julie isn’t the only one after her father’s research. Someone-or something-evil is tracking Julie’s every move…
Review
License to Shift starts with Julie waking the sleeping beast. Mark, who is a step away from succumbing to his animal side and staying a grizzly bear, wakes up to find the one he let get away on the other side of the door.
Julie is not the same person she was when she stayed the summer there so many years ago. When she comes back to find her father’s research while he is in the hospital, she comes back with a chip on her shoulder. She remembers the way she was treated by the clan and will not be treated like an outsider again. At the time she didn’t know why she was treated that way but Mark is going to make sure that she knows how he felt about her.
Mark knows that he is going to die soon because once you go feral they have to put you down. He has a limited amount of time to make amends to Julie. He had hopes that her father’s research would save him but his time has run out and her father is in the hospital.
This story is a race against time. Time to save Mark. There are others that want Julie’s father’s research for their own which means they need Julie. Mark will do whatever it takes to keep her safe. I really liked the redevelopment of their relationship. Mark had a lot of explaining to do because she was really hurt by him when they were teenagers. The town had changed since Julie had stayed the summer there pining after Mark.
Everyone is older now and time can heal the heart and open the mind to new possibilities. Carl and the clan helps Mark keep Julie safe from outside forces and from himself. I look forward to reading more about this town and the shifters that call it home.
