Synopsis
Jessica
Twelve years ago I lost everything I loved. I lost the ability to play the one sport that I had given every sweat and tear to. A career ending injury and a three-day coma left me hearing the words a player never wants to hear.
Since that day, I have made it my goal to break into the one world a female hasn’t entered yet: The NHL and specifically- Head Athletic Trainer. Finally getting my chance to prove myself I will not let anything or anyone stand in my way of my new dreams…until he shatters every ounce of control that I’ve hidden behind for years.
His arrogance, his determination and his god damn near perfect body set my body on fire. The more I try to stay away, the more I am drawn to him and the one night I give him- I lose.
Micah
I value nothing more than dominating on and off the ice. Nothing can deter my focus or my attention from taking my chance to prove to the world that I can capture the ultimate goal: the Stanley Cup. Coming off a heartbreaking loss in last year’s finals, the new season is full of promise and records. Until she walks in…
The newest Athletic Trainer of the NY Hawks and sister of my biggest rival, Jessica McAdams sets my body on fire: a response I haven’t felt in a long time. From the first time I saw her at the club and heard her name mentioned around the locker room, I was taken.
I could see through her walls, the false defenses she put up. She tries to pretend she is a stone cold and in charge woman, but I see the promise of what is underneath. As much as she pushes me away, the more I come to desire her, need her and want to dominate her. What starts as a mission to dominate the rough exterior becomes something I can’t live without- and she becomes the one thing I need more in my life than anything else, even if she doesn’t want me back.
Review
I bought INTERFERENCE for a very simple reason: it’s a hockey romance. I love hockey and therefore I love reading hockey romances, so I was really excited when I stumbled across this new series by an author I hadn’t read before. But as much as I wanted to love this book, I found myself struggling to read and finish it. I just couldn’t make any real sense of the story. There’s a little bit of BDSM, there’s a little bit of hockey, there’s a little glimpse into Jessica’s family dynamic, and that’s pretty much it. I’ve read the synopsis several times, and not once did I get the impression this was going to be a story that involved BDSM, so when the first BDSM scene came into play, I had to ask myself “What am I reading?”.
I think my biggest issue was that I didn’t like any of the characters at all. Jessica was flaky and had no idea what she wanted outside of her career. She’s a Switch who’s been waiting for the right person to submit to, but then says she’s not submissive. She doesn’t want to jeopardise her job by sleeping with Micah, but then seems to change her mind pretty quickly. She just as quickly gives up on the relationship every time it looks like things are about to go bad. Jessica’s brother, Jeff, is an absolute dick and a real Momma’s boy, and her mother clearly loves her son more than her daughter, yet there’s absolutely no explanation as to why her brother and mother are so cruel. Micah is supposed to be a Dom, but he came across as nothing more than a horny teenager with his crude comments and childish innuendo that were supposed to impress and seduce Jessica.
Overall I felt the story was weak, there was no real character development, and I didn’t feel any connection or chemistry between Jessica and Micah at all. All the characters are around thirty, but their emotions and behaviour are more suited to people in their late teens and early twenties. Sadly, I did not enjoy this book and will not be continuing with the series.
