Synopsis

Rafe “Savage” lives up to his name on the ice and in the bedroom. Forging a legacy as the Rough Riders’ most notorious playboy is easy when the woman he really wants is off limits. Mia’s brother isn’t just Rafe’s best friend, he’s also a teammate. With the Cup in site, Rafe won’t screw with anything that threatens the team’s winning streak. But when Mia comes to town on a mission of her own, one little woman may turn out to be the toughest opponent Rafe’s ever faced.

When it comes to men, Mia is everyone’s best friend. But when it comes to romance, her relationships are destined for failure. With a new job awaiting her on the other side of the country, she’s determined to start fresh. To do that, she needs to let go of this stupid crush once and for all.

Seducing Rafe isn’t just the best option; it’s her only option. Until she discovers he’s been harboring the same feelings. And with his team weeks away from the biggest game of their career, and Mia’s new life waiting, their no strings affair threatens to tear both their worlds apart.

Review

DIRTY SCORE is the third book in the Rough Riders Hockey series and while I enjoyed the first two books in the series, this one was quite the letdown.

As I write this review, I’m trying to think of something nice to say, especially about the characters, but I’m coming up blank.  Rafe and Mia spend almost the entire book pushing and pulling against each other, and it got old real fast.  Tate (Mia’s half-brother and Rafe’s best friend) was bossy, domineering, disrespectful and ultimately unlikeable.  Kilbourne (Rafe’s teammate) was a total dick to everyone and I’m still trying to figure out why he was even in the story or why his teammates never sorted him out.  In regards to the family ties, spending 40% of the story confused as to who Rafe, Mia, Tate and Joe were to each other made my head hurt, until the family tree was finally explained at the 42% mark.

DIRTY SCORE does come with a HEA, but even with an epilogue, I was left without any real resolution as to how Rafe and Mia ended.  Did Mia stay in LA for her job or did she move to DC to be with Rafe?  Did she do the jersey designs on the side of her LA job, or is the jersey gig her sole source of income?  I’m assuming she gave up her LA job to live with Rafe and design her jerseys, but it’s not clarified.  DIRTY SCORE is told in dual POVs and while it’s part of a series, it can be read as a stand-alone.  Will I read the fourth book in the series?  That will depend on who it’s about.  If it’s about Tate or Kilbourne, I’ll probably end up skipping it.

Kingston Rush
Becoming a goaltender in the NHL is the only thing I ever wanted for myself.
Goal accomplished.
Two years ago, I was the best goalie in the league, for the third time. With our Stanley Cup win, the Austin Arrows were on top of the world. Nothing could possibly bring us down.
Wrong.

Turns out, even when you’re at the top, you can find yourself back at rock bottom.
But it gets worse.
Not only did the team fall from grace, then I did too. I was accused of something I didn’t do. And now I’m being forced to repair my tarnished reputation.
Only I don’t know how to do that.

When the suggestion is made for me to pull off this ruse for the media, I know what I’m getting into. I also know there’s only one right answer.
But it’s complicated, and I’m not the only one who could get hurt.
There’s only one major problem.
I can’t say no.

Review

RUSH is the first book in the Austin Arrows series, and the first book I’ve read by Nicole Edwards.  Unfortunately, I found myself struggling to get through this one.  I usually like to read a book fast, but this one took me about three days because it wasn’t keeping my attention and I kept putting it down.  There was a lot of repetition throughout the entire book, which was frustrating.  I also felt the way the characters behaved was not appropriate for their age.  Most of the characters are in their mid-thirties, but the sometimes childish, petty and bitchy way they acted was what I’d expect to see in a YA or NA novel.  Overall, there just seemed to be too much drama.

There were times I liked Kingston and Ellie, and there were times I didn’t.  My favourite parts of the entire story are when Kingston and Ellie text each other.  It was cute, flirty, a little sexy, and most of all, no overthinking.  Just simple conversation.  I think what got me frustrated the most was that they were so afraid to tell the other how they really felt.  Ellie never believed any of the nice things Kingston said about her and thought he was just sleeping with her to kill time.  No way would he risk his friendship with her or her brother just to get some action, but she never thought of it that way.  In regards to Kingston, I thought it was a little creepy that he kept calling Ellie a little girl, especially when they were having sex.  There’s also a good portion of the story dedicated to Ellie’s twelve year old daughter, Bianca, as she searches for her father.  As with Kingston and Ellie, there were times I liked her and times I didn’t.

RUSH is told mostly in Kingston and Ellie’s POV, with a few chapters being told in other characters POVs.  It is a series, but I’m assuming each book could be read as a stand-alone.  Sadly, this one didn’t win me over enough to give the rest of the series a try.

Synopsis

An ambitious intern. A perfectionist executive. And a whole lot of name calling.
Whip-smart, hardworking, and on her way to an MBA, Chloe Mills has only one problem: her boss, Bennett Ryan. He’s exacting, blunt, inconsiderate–and completely irresistible. A Beautiful Bastard.

Bennett has returned to Chicago from France to take a vital role in his family’s massive media business. He never expected that the assistant who’d been helping him from abroad was the gorgeous, innocently provocative–completely infuriating–creature he now has to see every day. Despite the rumors, he’s never been one for a workplace hookup. But Chloe’s so tempting he’s willing to bend the rules–or outright smash them–if it means he can have her. All over the office.

As their appetites for one another increase to a breaking point, Bennett and Chloe must decide exactly what they’re willing to lose in order to win each other.

Review

I downloaded this for Free in iBooks.  I was surprised in that the characters were just so explosive, abrupt and obnoxious and I wondered how in hell they were going to get romantic?

The excessive drama between Bennett and Chloe in the first half of the book I have to admit I did not overly enjoy and it became tiresome and annoying.  Also when they first have sex and he does not use a condom, it did not make sense as he is the CEO, ambitious, smart and stubborn, why on earth did he have unprotected sex?  I mean I love a good boardroom sex scene but even I expected more from Chloe.  Then all the times they continue to have unprotected sex and magically after she just gets dressed, no clean up and she goes back to work no panties?

I loved the ending, it was perfect for me, the emotions and that wonderful moment for Chloe and her professional dreams being realised – it was beautiful.  It was interesting to see Bennett squirm and chase the woman he realised he does love.

San Diego was my most favourite time in the whole story, Bennett and Chloe opening up themselves to both each other and then also the reader.  I finally connected to them and their sex scenes at the hotel were passionate, romantic and sensual.

I actually would have loved to know more about Bennett’s mom, was she in the background manipulating, did the parents always want Bennet and Chloe to end up together.  I know his dad was very angry when they came back from San Diego and what happened to the guy they were setting Chloe up with – I actually cannot remember his name?

Will I be going on with the series? I have read the synopsis of the next few books and am worried they will be more excessive drama – so no.

Synopsis

She stumbled. He caught her.
She didn’t know who he was until she saw his face in a magazine.

When New York book editor Kate Porter trips and falls into Drew O’Connor’s arms, she has no idea that the man with the drop-dead looks is an Olympic champion skier, the face of famous luxury brands, and a serial dater of models and actresses. Their attraction is immediate but neither does anything about it. He rides off on his Harley and she returns to her office.

The chemistry between them is undeniable when Drew’s agent brings his reluctant client to Kate’s office a few weeks later to pitch a book about his life. As they move forward, their sexual tension makes it difficult to maintain a professional distance. The relationship quickly heats up, but Drew’s fame, dark past, and a life-changing secret test their feelings for each other.

Review

Drew and Kate are the main characters in this story but I must say I really enjoyed their friends Charles and Liz who would make a great book too. Charles was one character who really grabbed me right from the start and I would love to know more about his family connections.  Charles  and Liz as  supporting characters really helped cement the relationship between Drew and Kate – they were definitely their biggest cheerleaders considering all the obstacles placed in front of them.

The story flowed well, some parts were slow but I was just impatient to find out all their secrets. Drew’s past definitely puts a test on their relationship and not to mention all the girls who just want to get between the sheets with Drew.

Onto the sexual build ups and sex scenes, they were really well written and definitely helped believe Drew and Kate and their physical connections.  I did find Kate really emotional and in some parts she really overreacted considering the length of their relationship.

When Drew’s secret was finally revealed along with the extra OMG moment well that was my favourite part of the book.  Patrick was an interesting addition to the whole story and one I really loved.  Definitely enjoyed the second half of the book more than the first so keep reading it is well worth it in the end and you will not be disappointed.

I also love the cover.

Synopsis

Dark Romance Novel, sensitive topics with religious undertones (hope in the face of hell).

Finding herself stranded in a new city, eighteen-year-old Ember Bloom thought she’d reached her all time low. She was wrong. A mindless walk to a dead-end job landed her in the path of her gambling fathers’ enemies. Her only defense was a stranger, Slayton Winslow, a known enforcer and fighter—rumored to be Odin’s prince, underground royalty.

On sight, Slayton stole her breath and rushed her heart. His enigmatic attraction to her and how stoically he shielded her only churned Ember’s attraction to the bad boy who had given her safe haven in a real life hell. The draw to him gave her a reason to fight, to awaken. She knew every second could be their last in the city seeded with treacherous deceit and life threatening power plays.

Review

Disengaged is a dark love story. It is the story of Ember (a young women that has been given a bad lot in life) and Slayton (an enforcer and fighter in an underground crime ring).

I found this story hard to get through.  After everything that Ember has gone through with her father, I’m not sure that I get why she is with Slayton.  I understand the bad boy attraction but he doesn’t treat her very well in the beginning and he is the person that is given the task of collecting her father’s debt.  I also found that this story was very slow and had trouble getting going.  It didn’t pick up the pace until almost 75% through the story.  Disengaged did finish strong but I did have problems believing they would get together in the first place.

Synopsis

I was destined for stardom.
From the age of seven, I was an all-star.

I was Beltline’s baseball God, guaranteed to put this small town on the map.

Then, after one night, that future vanished.

The legend was laid to rest.

I fled from Beltline.
I left the girl behind.

Review

ROUNDING THIRD was the first novel I’ve read from Michelle Lynn, and I’m sad to say I didn’t enjoy it.  I didn’t realise this was going to be a college/young adult romance when I read the synopsis, and for me, college romances can be really hit and miss.  I did finish the story, but I struggled to get into it for a few reasons.  I often found the behaviour of the characters to be a bit childish and petty; there was a lot of drama, a lot of pushing and pulling, catfights over boys, bitchiness between teammates, and games played by Crosby and Ella to make the other jealous.  Sometimes I couldn’t make sense of the conversations and sometimes I felt the conversations were choppy.  The details about “that night” aren’t explained until the 44% mark, but up until then it felt like it was alluded to in every second thought Crosby and Ella had, and that became annoying pretty fast.  Finally, I was quite disturbed by the scene where the baseball team uses a cutout of a naked woman, throwing balls at her breasts and vagina to settle bets.  I could be wrong, but I just can’t see a coach or team getting away with that kind of thing in this day and age.

ROUNDING THIRD is told in dual POVs and appears to be a stand-alone, although I do feel that the story was left open for some of Crosby’s teammates to get their own stories.  The story is a second-chance romance that  finished with forgiveness and a HEA for Crosby and Ella.

Synopsis

Can a small-town cowboy win the heart of a woman who doesn’t have one?

Surviving charity functions by day and automatic weapons and death threats by night, Emma Carrington learned to be as hard as the men her daddy hired to protect her. Hell, she even carried a military grade stun gun in her Prada bag and could shoot just as well as any of her ex-military bodyguards if the need arose.

When a failed kidnapping attempt forces her to hide out in Somewhere, Texas, Emma finds herself stranded, floundering through cow patties, and desperate for a car. Who better to “borrow” from than the sexy naked man she sees turn into a wolf and leave his perfectly good pickup truck available for use. It’s not like he can drive it in his current condition, right?

College senior Noah VonBrandt knows the pack law better than anyone —only a bonded mate can know his secret. He watched his brother find the mate of his dreams and he wants the same thing, but you can’t just make the “right” girl appear out of thin air. To his surprise, lightning does strike. When a beautiful blonde woman trespasses on the ranch and sees him transform, he knows he only has two choices —claim her or let the pack erase her memories. But even as Noah fights to save her, Emma’s past is hot on her heels and out for more than memories.

Review

This series sucked me in, Noah I immediately loved from book one when his brother found his mate so I was really looking forward to meeting the girl who would tame the mischievous Noah.

Emma is not a wall flower and is a dynamic combination when paired with Noah for a fast paced romance that is basically over a period of a few days from meeting to mating so in all honesty it was a touch too quick – I enjoyed the slower build up in book #1.

The mating connection did not give me the desired build up as time was their enemy and I wanted more for Noah.  I also did not like his parents too much is this book, the first book they were caring and supportive but this book not so much.

Am I continuing on, unfortunately no as I do not mind paying for books, this one was around $4.00 for 180 pages or so, the next book is the same price for under half the pages and I am worried is going to be even more rushed.

Review

LADIES MAN is the story of Tahoe and Regina, two people introduced to us in MANWHORE.  Tahoe is very popular with the ladies; women flock to him wherever he goes and he’s never without a willing partner for the night.  Regina might want him, but he’s admitted he’ll never be monogamous and, to Regina, monogamy and faithfulness are vital to her relationships.  After being cheated on and having her heart broken by her college boyfriend, she’s not interested in letting another man into her heart.  But her feelings for Tahoe make her realise that maybe she is ready to date again, even though she knows the man she wants is the man she’ll never be able to have.

What can I say about LADIES MAN?  I enjoyed it, I did, but at the same time I felt it was very drawn out.  The story takes place over a year, with Regina and Tahoe dancing around each other and their feelings the entire time.  There’s no sex between the pair until the 90% mark, so if you’re expecting a lot of sexy times, you won’t find it here.  What you will find is angst and a lot of it as the two try to sort out their feelings while keeping their friendship intact.   What I liked most about this story is that while Tahoe was sleeping around, Regina wasn’t waiting for him.  Yes, she pined over him, but she dated and had sex with someone else.  Hallelujah!!!

LADIES MAN is part of the Manwhore series but it can be read as a stand-alone.  It’s a friends-to-lovers story, but I will say that I found their friendship to be very awkward, which I suppose is probably the point.  It’s only told in Regina’s POV but I would have liked to have seen an occasional switch in POV, as some of Regina’s thoughts were repetitive and it just would have been nice to know what Tahoe was thinking at times.

Verbally abused by her mother for years, 18 year old Ellie Johnson always believed she would never be loved or wanted by anyone. She focused all of her attention on her grades and getting into the University of Texas to start a new life away from her mother.

The last thing Ellie expected was to fall in love with Gunner Mathews, a starting linebacker for the University of Texas football team and not to mention, her brothers best friend.

Gunner only had two passions in life, football and his grandfather’s ranch, until he falls for his best friends little sister. He will stop at nothing to show Ellie how much he wants her, even if it means he has to move faster than she would like.
Gunner knows they are meant to be together forever, but Ellie keeps denying her feelings out of fear of being hurt again.

Every time he gets close to winning her love, something pushes her away again. Will Ellie ever be able to let go of the past and let him into her heart and will Gunner be patient enough to wait for her?

What will it take for them to realize they are all each other have ever WANTED?

My review

Well I loved this story, it was sweet and sassy but then also dirty and delightful.  If you wanted a romp in the hay with a happy ever after, insta-love, wrapped together with drama then you will love “Wanted”.

However I too am a little torn as while reading Wanted I actually really loved and connected with the supporting characters of Ari and Jeff more than Gunner and Ellie.  To me Gunner was a little over sensitive, I think I like my men a bit more alpha, he sometimes to me was a little too soft and sensitive for a cowboy.  I would have perhaps connected more with Ellie if we saw more anxiety from the way her mother treated her, we had two glimpses of how Gunner settled her down and I loved that when she had her panic attacks.  Perhaps a little less drama and misunderstanding and confessing their undying love for each other and perhaps a little bit more meat in the story particularly with their two mothers may have made me love them more.

Now can I just say that Ari rocks, her character, sass and stubbornness had me laughing, crying and riveted to the pages when she appeared and Jeff was a wonderful brother.

I have added Saved which is the next book int he series to my TBR list however I will be not reading it straight away as I have a feeling we will be going down a similar route with Ari & Jeff as we did with Ellie and Gunner in that there is going to be lots of drama, double meanings, misunderstandings, hurt and then a wonderful HEA.

Oh, before I forget we also get to fast forward with Gunner and Ellie and see how they are travelling, Ellie desired to be Wanted well Gunner simply Worshipped her – beautiful to see.

Synopsis

After a disastrous date in college, Katryn Winters never wants to come face to face with hot pitcher Weston Dukes again. When she’s assigned the interview of a lifetime by her magazine with the elusive Weston Dukes, what is she to do?

Weston jumps from girl to girl with no desire to settle down. A previous relationship has left him bitter and cynical. When he’s approached for the interview with Katryn, he can’t help but remember how horribly things ended with their date. What happens when he accepts the interview and sparks begin to fly between them? Will they catch the pitch love has thrown at them or will they both strike out?

Review

I’m saddened to say that I wasn’t a fan of PITCHING MY HEART.  I just couldn’t get into it no matter how hard I tried or how many times I put it down thinking that maybe it was me and I just wasn’t in the mood.  After more than a week of trying and skipping large chunks just to get to the end, I have to accept that I don’t think I was the problem.

I felt like everything was too over-the-top.  The characters were really rude, mean, bitchy, crazy and childish.  These are people who are in their mid-twenties but are instead acting like they’re in high school.  The women seem to enjoy getting into fights and are often threatening physical violence.  I think this was meant to be funny, but it fell flat for me.  There’s a lot of drama revolving around Weston’s ex-girlfriend, as well as a lot of pushing and pulling between Weston and Katryn.  The sex scenes are over so quickly that you’ll miss them if you blink⎯either expand them or get rid of them entirely.  I did like one part of the story, and that was when Weston stepped up and took responsibility for something that happened in his past.
