Synopsis

When CEO Renner Bastion walks into a room, everyone keeps their distance. Well, everyone but the sarcastic, tattooed, Boston-bred security guard whose presence has kept Renner in New Jersey longer than intended. As if the unwanted attraction isn’t unsettling enough, Renner finds out his protector isn’t as unavailable as originally thought.

Milo Bautista just came out to his wealthy, ultra-confident boss, a man he secretly respects and admires…in more ways than he’ll admit. Worldly, experienced Renner would never look in his direction, let alone share some of that confidence he wears like a cloak, so Milo has set his sights on someone else to be his first.

Until Renner offers him private lessons in seduction…

Review

WOUND TIGHT is the first book I’ve read from Tessa Bailey and I quite enjoyed it.  The story flowed well and chemistry between Renner and Milo was hot.  Really hot.

I liked Renner, despite him spending most of the book being an emotionally closed-off hard arse.  He comes across as uncaring but, thanks to his POV, we quickly learn that it’s just a front to keep people at arms length.  Milo is tough, being ex-military and working in security, but he’s also very fun loving and sweet, a complete opposite to Renner’s alpha personality.  I really liked Milo because despite only having sexual experience with women, when he started having feelings for another man, he embraced them instead of hiding from them.

WOUND TIGHT is told in dual POVs and while it’s part of a series, it can be read as a stand-alone.  There are references made to past couples and past events, but you don’t need to read the other books in the series to follow and enjoy this story.

Synopsis

Laurie Peterson assumes her impulsive one-night stand with sinfully sexy Sheriff Ethan Booker is the biggest surprise of the year…until her bakery burns down while she’s basking in the afterglow. It looks like her dreams are up in smoke, but then Ethan proposes a deal too tempting to resist.

Ethan has no intention of settling for a one-night stand with Laurie. Nor does he want anything to do with the women his wealthy family wants him to meet. Not when he’s waited ten years for his chance to make his move. His deal might have strings—and Laurie may not know the stakes—but nothing will stop this sexy cop from staking a real claim on her body and her heart.

Review

HARD COMPROMISE is a romance story that was ten years in the making.

Laurie is a woman who was born on the wrong side of the tracks and is desperate to make a name for herself away from her mother’s reputation.  Despite being nothing like her mother, she believes that’s how everyone sees her, so she keeps everyone at arm’s length and only has one good friend.  Her mother is a horrible woman, threatening what little Laurie holds dear, and I was glad when Laurie finally put a stop to it.

Booker (Ethan) was born into a wealthy family, but he never once acted like a snob or thought he was better than anyone, and I loved that about him.  He’s naturally protective and fills his sheriff role perfectly.  Other than finally convincing Laurie that he is someone she can turn to and lean on, I can’t really say much about him because most of the story focuses on Laurie.  Ethan’s mother was a real surprise and despite her small role, I liked her a lot.

HARD COMPROMISE is a story that I liked, but didn’t love.  The sex between Booker and Laurie?  Hot.  The scene where Laurie opens the door dressed in nothing but a robe and a pair of handcuffs?  Totally awkward and completely hilarious.  Booker and Laurie constantly fighting for dominance in the relationship?  A turn off.  I wouldn’t exactly call this a friends-to-lovers romance, but more of an acquaintances-to-lovers romance.  HARD COMPROMISE is told in dual POVs, comes with a HEA and while it’s part of a series, it can be read as a stand-alone.

The second I saw her, I had to have her.
When my friend asked me to cover for him at his pool cleaning job, I figured I’d make some extra cash. I didn’t expect to find myself face to face with a sweet set of curves named Vera.
Then she started strutting around in her bikini.
I guess her goal is to piss her rich dad off. I’m clearly not the kind of guy he wants her near.
But if she thinks I’ll let her toy with me and not follow through… I’ve got a surprise for her.
A huge surprise that wants to rip through my pants.
I’ll screw her in the pool shed, the garden, and right in her room while her parents sleep down the hall.
I don’t care if her dad finds out or not—this girl is MINE.

Review

THE POOL BOY is a hot and quick read, and is the first book I’ve read from Penny Wylder.

James and Vera are very likeable characters and you could feel the chemistry between them right from the start.  Vera is not your typical rich girl.  She cares about those less fortunate than her and it’s her dream to work for a company that designs and builds homes for those that need them.  James is not the kind of man her father would ever pick for her.  He’s not from a wealthy family and is filling in as caretaker for their estate.  Vera is attracted to him at first sight, and if it pisses off her father that she’s sleeping with the help, well that’s just a bonus.

The sex between James and Vera dominates this story and it is hot.  Scorching hot.  That scene involving the garden hose?  Yowza.  The entire story (except the epilogue) takes place in the span of a week, so it is an insta-love.  Vera’s father’s involvement in her job-hunting endeavours was easy to spot right from the start and by the end of the book, the status of her relationship with her parents is left unresolved.  THE POOL BOY is told in dual POVs and is a stand-alone novella that comes with a nice HEA.  There is an option to read another epilogue that takes place a year later, but to access that you need to sign up to the author’s newsletter, which I think is sneaky.  I mean no offence to the author, but I’m not going to sign up to a newsletter just to find out how the story really ends.

Synopsis

Can a dream really become a reality?

Georgia Armstrong is on the hunt—on the hunt for a man. It’s not what you think, though. She’s not looking for love, friendship or companionship. Georgia wants a baby, and she’s on the hunt for a sperm donor. Except her plan is to have the sperm donated the good old-fashioned way. What could possibly go wrong?

Henry Marsh knows what he wants, and a wife and family are not it. He doesn’t know where the little blonde bombshell came from, and he doesn’t know what she was thinking when she came up with her plan. And he especially doesn’t know why he agreed to help her.

Business quickly turns into pleasure and the lines are blurred as Henry and Georgia begin to break all the rules.

How far will Georgia go to become a mother, and what will it cost her? And has Henry finally put his member some place he shouldn’t?

Review

WHATEVER IT TAKES is the story of one woman willing to do whatever it takes to have a baby.  Georgia isn’t getting any younger and she knows her time is running out if she wants to have a baby.  She can’t afford to go through IVF, so that leaves her with the only option of getting pregnant the old-fashioned way.  But she’s a realist who knows that by the time she finds a man who she could settle down with, it might be too late.  So she’s come up with a plan that even she thinks is crazy: find a man willing to knock her up, who will then walk away when it’s done.  Henry ends up being that man.  He has no desire for marriage or children, but he’s happy to try and make her dream come true.

Despite her crazy plan, I quite liked Georgia.  She had a dream and she chased it with everything she had, because she was determined to make it come true.  I can respect that.  I liked Henry, that he was very upfront about what he did and didn’t want out of life.  However, I didn’t like that after he acknowledged his feelings for Georgia, he expected her to give up her dream of having a baby to be with him, but not once did he consider doing the same for her and I was so happy when Georgia stood up to him about it.  Luckily for Henry, he redeems himself in a huge way.

WHATEVER IT TAKES is told in dual POVs and while it’s part of a series, it can be read as a stand-alone.  I did find it hard to believe that Henry⎯a man in his thirties⎯didn’t know how a woman’s cycle worked, or that Georgia believed her ability to fall pregnant was gone after suffering a setback.  Their lack of knowledge in regards to human reproduction was a little concerning.  The story itself moves at a fairly quick pace and is overall a fun and lighthearted read that comes with a lovely HEA.

* Note:  This story includes scenes about the joys of pregnancy, as well as its dangers and risks, which may be triggers for some readers.

Synopsis

From the author of Mastered and Dominated comes the third of the Enforcers novels. Kept is the searing story of a woman who finds sanctuary in surrender…

He can’t change who he is.

A horrific childhood has made Silas the man he is today: dangerous, distrustful and demanding. He’s lived in self-imposed solitude, convinced that no woman could ever accept his need for absolute control—in business and pleasure. That is, until a young violinist walks into one of his buildings and into his life.

She can’t change what she wants.

Hayley has been struggling to fulfill her father’s dying wish: for her to attend a prestigious music school in New York City. But even working multiple jobs, she can’t afford the tiniest of apartments. Seeing her hopeless and near tears, Silas vows to help and protect her, no matter the cost to himself. But when Hayley meets his every demand with unwavering acceptance and love, he is overwhelmed by her goodness and gentle spirit. He knows that the dark stain on his soul can never be erased—and rather than risk destroying the most beautiful person he’s ever experienced, he’ll have to do the hardest thing he’s ever had to do. Let her go. But he’s totally unprepared for the lengths to which Hayley will go to fight for his love and for a future brighter than the sun…Synopsis Here

Review

As a reader of books 1 & 2 of The Enforcers Series, you knew the story on Silas would be amazing and it was everything and so much more.  His private personal story was riveting as was the tug of emotions for his responsibility to his brothers, Drake & Evangeline.  Ultimately though this story is about one innocent woman Hayley and the rough journey of love they travel, it is brutal, ugly, emotional but just so passionate and fulfilling.

I did not think any story would beat Drake and Evangeline but Silas and Hayley delivers an incredibly emotional, heart breaking read that does give you a HEA but after a tough road.  I actually read Mastered and Dominated before I picked up Kept as I wanted to return to these men who are their own family.

Kept had my eyes welling in tears at so many scenes,  I had to take a deep breathe and will Hayley on to continue to be the independent woman I knew she was. Hayley, she was such a strong female character, not physically strong like Silas but an emotional warrior delivered to save him from the loneliness and to give him peace.

Another character in this story who stepped up was Maddox, I know this series is only supposed to be 3 books but I am begging in this review to Maya to pretty please give these other men their love stories.  Considering we did not get to meet Drake and Angeline’s baby daughter I have all my fingers crossed that another book is in the works.

This whole series is on my “to be read again” shelf – fantastic action, suspense, drama and ultimately beautiful dominating all encompassing love.  The Enforcers have joined the KGI men – Maya sure knows how to create men that are simply special.

Synopsis

Sela and Beck’s deliciously sinful tale of sex, lies, and vengeance reaches its explosive conclusion in the final chapter of Sawyer Bennett’s Sugar Bowl trilogy, which began with the novels Sugar Daddy and Sugar Rush.

For years Sela Halstead dreamed of revenge, but the quest for payback has been anything but sweet. Now, once again, she finds herself at the mercy of Jonathon Townsend, his hands crushing the very breath from her body. And even though she escapes with her life, Sela fears she may never recover. In desperate need of shelter and comfort, she runs to the one man she can trust. Beckett North has stood by Sela since the beginning. But can he handle the brutal truth?

Beck will do anything to protect what is his—and make no mistake, Sela belongs to him, heart and soul. The passion between them runs hot, even as their world begins to unravel. With the legacy of his ruthless business partner hanging in the balance, Beck stands to lose everything: his fortune, his family, his freedom. But each touch of Sela’s mouth on his skin, her nails down his back, makes it harder to let her go—and it might not even be his choice to make.

Review

SUGAR FREE takes place immediately after SUGAR RUSH, with Sela telling Beck about JT’s latest attack, a scene that was pretty rough to read.  Beck and Sela have to make a choice about what to do next, and that choice quickly leads them towards an uncertain future.  The lengths these two are willing to go to, just to protect the other, shows you how much they love each other.  While Beck has been a pillar of support for Sela in all three books, it’s Sela’s chance to return the favour because the secrets revealed and the events that transpire in this story are soul crushing.  Thankfully in the end, Sela gets justice, JT gets what he deserved and Beck and Sela get their HEA.

“What you and I have, Sela…no one will ever comprehend it.  No one will ever come in between it.  But it’s real and it’s ours, and I’m never letting it go.”

SUGAR FREE is told in dual POVs and is the final book in the Sugar Bowl trilogy.  All three books are connected by a single story and cannot be read as stand-alones.  I was very happy with how this series concluded, although I was scared there for a little while because I thought the book would end in a way I was not going to like.  But then I got to chapter 25.  A chapter so good that I read it not once, not twice, but three times.  That chapter was fantastic and deserves a mic drop at the end of it because it was that good.

What else can I say about SUGAR FREE?  Honestly, not much because to do so would give away all the scary and awesome things that happened in this book.  The twists and turns from beginning to end had my head spinning, and I never knew where the story was going to take me next.  As with SUGAR DADDY and SUGAR RUSH, this was another amazing read that was impossible to put down.  I FUCKING LOVED IT!!!

Synopsis

New York Times Bestselling Author Janelle Denison brings you a classic marriage of convenience and secret baby trope that is fun, flirty, and filled with sensual romance.

Grace Holbrook believed she couldn’t have children, but now she was pregnant after just one night with sexy, bad boy Ford McCabe. She was delighted by the news, but not so thrilled when Ford insists they get married, especially when his recent return to Whitaker Falls after eleven years away is shrouded in secrets.

Ford has always wanted Grace. Even back when he was the town rebel and should have known better — until he was blamed for the death of her brother and was shunned by the community. Now a millionaire businessman, he’s back to claim what is rightfully his . . . including Grace and the baby they’d created together.

Review

Millionaire’s Proposal has all the ingredients for an easy to read light romantic escape story and it did not disappoint me at all.  I love second chance romance stories with a surprise pregnancy and this one was great.

Ford is one Millionaire who is working many angles, one is his heart and the other proving himself to the small town he left.  As a reader you immediately connected with him and wanted to see his life take a turn for the better with his one true love.

No real surprises as the Synopsis basically explains the whole story but you still get a few dramatic moments thrown in and it flows well.

There is also lots of tension between Grace and her dad after she accepts his proposal.

The ending is beautiful and you get a Happy Ever After with no unanswered questions.

Synopsis

My life is perfect. I have money, power, good looks and countless women ready to do anything to get their hands on me, and my rather large package. My business brings in billions every year and my airline has the fastest airplanes in the world. In short, I have everything a man can dream of. Or so I thought until I met Estelle Klide.

The second I saw her, I decided to make her mine.

Her body was sinfully sexy. She had amazing, mesmerizing indigo eyes. Her sweet scent was the epitome of temptation and evoked images of wild, animalistic sex in my mind.

I couldn’t help but fall for her – hard. Letting her slip through my fingers was not an option.
In involving myself with her, I entered waters I’d never thought I’d have to swim in. I set off on a journey filled with mystery, fear and a lot of love.

The only thing that threatened to ruin this paradise and destroy everything, was her ex-husband, who turned out to be a real monster.

* BETWEEN CLOUDS AND STARS is a standalone romance novel, which takes place in the fantastical world of the future.

Review

When I started reading BETWEEN CLOUDS AND STARS, I wasn’t aware that it was set in the future, so that was a bit of a shock.  But that’s ok, it wasn’t a problem for me and so I kept reading.

So why the low rating?  The story moves extremely fast and has way too much happening for a novella.  Within the first few pages I thought that if I were to blink while reading, I might miss something important.  Because of how fast it moves, you cannot connect with the characters or what’s going on because there simply wasn’t enough time to do so.  Even the characters themselves don’t have time to react or be emotional before they’re moved on to the next part of the story.  I get that this is set in the future and that it’s fiction, but I still expect a book to be somewhat realistic.  Spoilers ahead.  How did Estelle’s ex-husband escape from jail?  Why was she not notified by the police that he had escaped, given that he tried to kill her?  How did he tamper with Nick’s plane?  Why wasn’t the crash of Nick’s plane investigated?  Why would a couple lie about Estelle dying as a child so they could adopt her, only to treat her like crap her entire life?  How could they just adopt some random child without proof of birth?  Why would her family believe a doctor saying she had died and not speak to the police?  All these questions tell me that the story was full of holes and loose ends.

While writing this review, I tried really hard to think of anything I liked about it.  Sadly, the only part I liked was the HEA ending.  BETWEEN CLOUDS AND STARS is told in dual POVs and is a stand-alone.

Synopsis

This is strictly professional … right?

William – I’m a serious businessman. A devoted father. And right now I’m at breaking point. I’m all my daughter has in the world, since her mother was so cruelly taken from us – just three years ago. I thought I didn’t want Tabitha raised by a nanny. But then I met Chrissie – young, passionate, and full of life. She captured Tabby’s heart in an instant, but now I must be on my guard. Because it seems like she’s melting mine, too …

Chrissie – Whoa! I did not expect the most gorgeous guy I’d ever seen in my life to offer me a job looking after his daughter. My new boss is a real English gentleman: charming and handsome. But there’s something cold about him, too. What happened to make him so distant, so reserved? And how the hell do I stay professional, now that I’m starting to develop feelings for him?

Please note: this book ends on a cliffhanger.

Review

BARELY YOURS is the story of William, a thirty year old English single dad to his adorable daughter, and Chrissie, a twenty-two year old U.S. college student living in London on a twelve month work visa.

I liked William, who truly loves his daughter, but at times he was a bit hard to take.  He would lead Chrissie on and then slam on the brakes, leaving her hurt and confused in the process.  But when he finally realised what the problem was, he admitted it, he accepted it and he was ready to move on and give all he had to Chrissie.  I liked Chrissie too, mostly because I thought she acted her age.  She’s a young woman who’s smart and loving, and she has a good head on her shoulders.  That being said, the ending is all her fault because she makes a rash decision without thinking.  If she were a thirty year old woman behaving that way, this review would not be so kind.  But because she’s only twenty-two and, in what I assume is her first real relationship, I can forgive her stupidity.

BARELY YOURS is told in dual POVs and is the first book in a trilogy about this couple.  I must warn you, it does end in a cliffhanger, which I didn’t realise until the story ended on said cliffhanger at the 87% mark.  Clearly I need to read the ENTIRE blurb before starting on a book, only so I know what I’m getting myself into.  That being said, I enjoyed the story and I would read the next book, but I may wait until all three books have been released.  The story will continue in NEARLY YOURS, but I don’t have a release date on that one at the time of this review.

Review

I enjoyed WILDER and thought it was a great start to a new series from Rebecca Yarros.  In this series we have a trio of adrenaline junkies⎯Wilder (Pax), Nova (Landon) and Rebel (Penna)⎯who are the Renegades.  They’re taking a year off competing in order to finish college, but will film a documentary showcasing all their crazy stunts performed around the world while they spend the school year at sea.  Because of his busy schedule, Pax needs a tutor to help him graduate, and Leah has been chosen for him.

Leah is recovering from a traumatic event and just getting on the ship is the craziest and bravest thing she’s done in two years.  On her first day, she meets Pax and is thrown into a situation that terrifies her.  But she’s strong and brave and handles it like a champ.  She would normally never consider doing the crazy things that Pax does, but he makes her want to step out of her comfort zone and live a little.  I liked that while she thinks about her traumatic past, she doesn’t use it as a reason not to be with Pax.  Pax is cocky and arrogant, but he’s also a nice guy who would do anything for those he cares about.  He’s also haunted by a traumatic event for which he blames himself for, but it’s not his fault at all.  He’s determined to graduate college, gain access to his trust fund and finish the documentary to honour a friend.

There was one thing I didn’t like about the story, and that was how many times Pax and Leah’s “secrets” were alluded to before finally being revealed.  Leah’s traumatic event.  Pax hiding something from Leah.  Pax being the cause of Nova’s man-whore ways.  They were talked or thought about so many times that by the time the secrets were revealed, they weren’t shocking because they’d become easy to predict, and that was disappointing.  But other than that, I liked the story and it’s characters, and I am looking forward to reading Nova’s books next, which comes out in February 2017.  WILDER is told in dual POVs and is the first book in The Renegades series.  It doesn’t end with a cliffhanger and comes with a HEA for Pax and Leah, who I’m sure we’ll see again throughout the series.
