Synopsis

With New Year’s Eve and her thirtieth birthday fast approaching, best-selling author Calista Grant has a hard time envisioning actually doing something for herself. At the urging of her closest friends, she books herself a once in lifetime vacation, trading the chaos of Boston for the serene tranquility of the Caribbean. Once in paradise, she makes the decision to drop her guard and finally let loose.

Enter two bachelors, with demons of their own to vanquish. Zane Rhodes, a successful architect, is on a path of self-destruction after a tragic loss. In denial regarding his own issues, resort owner, Xavier Rivera, invites his best friend to spend the holiday with him in paradise. Once there, they both meet Calista and are immediately captivated.

Used to sharing everything, including women, they set out to seduce the innocent brunette and fulfill her deepest fantasies. Neither is prepared for what happens next, though, as the two Dominants find themselves not only battling each other, but their own demons as well. Will they be able to save their friendship before the reality of the three ends the fantasy forever?

Review

Captivating Nights has made me want to be a Y to my very own X & Z.  I want what Cali was given by X & Z – she was cherished, devoured and pushed to her limits.

The three main characters all had something that the other needed in order to repair and take a plunge with their hearts.  I cannot believe how much emotional baggage these characters had but it just gave them all such depth and I loved watching them all figure it out.

Cali immediately had me within the first few chapters and then X & Z – can two guys be any more dominant, possessive and selfless in the way they brought Cali to her knees.

X & Z both had such strong individual traits and then Cali comes along and it was like a three piece puzzle was solved with one night of passion.  I enjoyed watching as they kept putting that puzzle back together each night at the resort and each time it was harder for them to break apart in the morning.

I am glad the author did not go too dramatic with Cali’s diving adventure, the way she entwined that into the story for Zane to have his moment on enlightenment was perfect.

Tears in my eyes with the ending and Captivating Nights is going to my menage shelf to pick up again.

Synopsis

When CEO Renner Bastion walks into a room, everyone keeps their distance. Well, everyone but the sarcastic, tattooed, Boston-bred security guard whose presence has kept Renner in New Jersey longer than intended. As if the unwanted attraction isn’t unsettling enough, Renner finds out his protector isn’t as unavailable as originally thought.

Milo Bautista just came out to his wealthy, ultra-confident boss, a man he secretly respects and admires…in more ways than he’ll admit. Worldly, experienced Renner would never look in his direction, let alone share some of that confidence he wears like a cloak, so Milo has set his sights on someone else to be his first.

Until Renner offers him private lessons in seduction…

Review

WOUND TIGHT is the first book I’ve read from Tessa Bailey and I quite enjoyed it.  The story flowed well and chemistry between Renner and Milo was hot.  Really hot.

I liked Renner, despite him spending most of the book being an emotionally closed-off hard arse.  He comes across as uncaring but, thanks to his POV, we quickly learn that it’s just a front to keep people at arms length.  Milo is tough, being ex-military and working in security, but he’s also very fun loving and sweet, a complete opposite to Renner’s alpha personality.  I really liked Milo because despite only having sexual experience with women, when he started having feelings for another man, he embraced them instead of hiding from them.

WOUND TIGHT is told in dual POVs and while it’s part of a series, it can be read as a stand-alone.  There are references made to past couples and past events, but you don’t need to read the other books in the series to follow and enjoy this story.

Synopsis

Mogul or Monster?

Billionaire Weston Wilcox hasn’t been seen by the outside world in almost a decade. No face to face meetings. No interviews. No social media accounts. Despite his ghost demeanor he continues to financially flourish and make his fellow investors richer with every decision. Throughout the years many have sought to discover the man inside the mogul while others have spread legends painting him as a heartless monster consumed by greed. None of it matters to him. Weston’s true identity is secured away in his estate of solitude, which consists of the only people in the entire world he believes he can trust. That is until he’s asked to allow a guest access to the property under extreme circumstances. One he knows he shouldn’t. It doesn’t take long before his world is turned upside down, unexpected threats arise, and Weston’s forced to ask himself what really should be kept private?

Review

Private was an enjoyable read, it had humour and flowed quickly – sometimes a bit too quick.

It is told from both Wes and Branley’s POV.

Weston (Wes) was definitely a private man and surrounded himself with faithful people.  His short term guest, Bryn,  turns his world upside down and I enjoyed the banter and push and pull between these two.  I was disappointed when his secret was revealed and it kind of fizzed out for me.  I did guess the problem with the health of Brynley’s mother early on.

I loved the last 30% of this story, I finally felt some emotional and passionate connection between Wes and Brynley and I did love the ending.

Private had some great moments of humour especially between Wes, J.T. and Brynley who are the three main characters.  Bryn has some incredible humorous moments and the one liners coming out of her mouth made me giggle, she definitely held nothing back.

Also this in not a standalone, at the end of the book Wes and Brynley will return in a book called “Public”.

I also have to say I love the cover, I can imagine that is Wes very easily.

Synopsis

When you’re a rock god, fame and fortune are your two best friends, but they can be fickle bitches. Everyone wants a piece of me and I have no clue how to deal with it all. I’m being sued, pressured to sign contracts, and fending off rabid women who want to steal my virtue.

Well, not that I really have any virtue, but still… my life has turned completely bat-shit crazy.

That’s why I need Emma Peterson. She got me out of a bit of a jam once, and I know she can do it again. The only problem is that sweet, prim and totally straight-laced Emma doesn’t want anything to do with me. Not professionally, and certainly not personally.

It’s not that I want her in that way. Let’s be realistic… it would take a crow bar of epic proportions to get her to spread those legs for me.

No, I only want her legal expertise and for her to make sense of my crazy world. It’s a good thing I have just the leverage to make her do my bidding, because her refusal is not an option.

Review

After recently reading a few intense books from Sawyer Bennett, it was nice to pick up one that was⎯for the most part⎯nice, easy and laid back.  SEXY LIES AND ROCK & ROLL definitely fell into that category.

Emma is a very intelligent young woman, but she’s also very insecure.  She won’t believe a hundred compliments given to her, but she will believe⎯wholeheartedly⎯a single negative remark aimed her way.  She’s also a loner, preferring to spend her time surrounded by books and legal paperwork instead of people.  Evan is a manwhore, sleeping with women whose names he doesn’t know and then rudely kicking them out the next morning.  His first scene was eye-opening and I wasn’t sure if I was going to like him, but you quickly get to know him and understand why he does what he does, and your heart breaks for him a little.  At times he was cocky and arrogant, but in a cheeky and fun way that you can’t help but like him for.

Evan and Emma are like fire and ice, total opposites of each other, but somehow they just work.  He helps bring her out of her shell and she becomes someone he can trust completely.  I was quite surprised when the first night of sex between them was done behind closed doors, because I don’t recall Ms Bennett ever doing that before.  I’ll admit I was worried we’d never get an actual sex scene, but this is Sawyer, so I should have known better.  I thought the conflict was believable⎯albeit a little predictable⎯though I didn’t like that Emma dragged it out because she refused to listen to reason.  It comes with a HEA epilogue, but I was hoping for a bit more of an ending as I would have loved to have seen a glimpse of their lives a few years down the road.  SEXY LIES AND ROCK & ROLL is told in dual POVs, is a stand-alone and is a perfect way to spend a few hours of your day.

Synopsis

In the business world, Christopher Colby is a force to be reckoned with—admired by many, he’s an intelligent, confident, smooth-talking COO who will stop at nothing to get what he wants.

To Quinn Cordell, Christopher is a demon reincarnated—a sexy, self-centered, cocky bastard who is trying his damnedest to take over her family’s company.

Normally, Quinn handles men like that very well—with precision and tactics of her own.

Quinn understands Christopher’s type.

But what Quinn doesn’t understand is, why she allowed Christopher to grope her in a supply closet?

Review

Acquired Asset is a a high powered story of trust and love within corporate america.   I loved this story of two families that were enemies at one point and now forced to merge together to create a super corporation.  That doesn’t mean that they like each other though.  And trying to figure out how to blend the new corporation will prove challenging.

I loved Quinn’s character.  She was everything I wanted her to be.  She was tough and didn’t take any crap from anyone.  She knew she had to  work hard because her counterpart with the other family was a man but that didn’t stop her.  The only thing she didn’t do well was put her heart on the line.

Christopher was the perfect man for Quinn.  He injected the right amount of humour and passion that made her crazy. He worked hard to get through her walls that she built up over many years.  I loved his directness and honesty.

They have huge hurdles to overcome.  (Mainly their families.) Christopher’s mother is a major bee-otch.  Quinn’s father isn’t happy about the situation either.

Acquired Asset made me laugh, cry and get enraged.  The perfect trifecta.  ZN Willett injected the right amount of passion that made this story addictive.  And the ending had an emotional punch that made want to read the book all over again.

But this hot threesome has to decide if the romantic wave they’ve caught is nothing more than a vacation fling, or the kind of love that could change their lives forever…

Review

As a person who has never read a book by Jaci Burton before, I thought MISTLETOE GAMES would be a good way to check out her work.  It’s an anthology in the Play-By-Play series, and I assumed that all three novellas could be read as stand-alones.  That was the case with HOLIDAY ON ICE and HOT HOLIDAY NIGHTS, but not with HOLIDAY GAMES.  All three stories revolve around athletes and sports stars, and are told in dual POVs.

HOLIDAY GAMES is a follow up story to CHANGING THE GAME, book 2 in the Play-By-Play series.  For the most part, I thought it was enjoyable and I liked both Liz and Gavin.  For a novella, there was a lot of sex, so much so that I began skipping the sex scenes just to get back to the story.  The story not only catches up with Liz and Gavin, but with all the Riley clan and their partners, so there were a lot of people to try and keep track of.  I think I would have gotten more enjoyment out of this story if I’d read the previous books relating to this family.

Rating:  4 Hearts

HOLIDAY ON ICE is the story of Trick and Stella, two people who are not interested in a relationship but who end up falling in love with each other.  I liked Trick and thought he was great boyfriend material, but Stella didn’t win me over.  Her reason for not wanting a relationship⎯and then using it to break up with Trick⎯was ridiculous and silly.  Despite really liking Trick, I felt this novella was the weakest in the set.

Rating:  3 Hearts

HOT HOLIDAY NIGHTS is the story of Tori, Alex and Ben.  Yes, this novella is a threesome story and is definitely the raciest in the set where I didn’t skip the sex scenes.  Tori is a middle-aged woman who starts a holiday fling with Alex⎯who’s younger then her⎯and Ben⎯who’s her age and Alex’s manager.  Their story takes place in a very short period of time and I’d classify it as an insta-love.  While I enjoyed this story the most, I found some of the dirty talk to be a little laughable, and sometimes the POV would switch without any notice, which caused some confusion.

Synopsis

An ambitious intern. A perfectionist executive. And a whole lot of name calling.
Whip-smart, hardworking, and on her way to an MBA, Chloe Mills has only one problem: her boss, Bennett Ryan. He’s exacting, blunt, inconsiderate–and completely irresistible. A Beautiful Bastard.

Bennett has returned to Chicago from France to take a vital role in his family’s massive media business. He never expected that the assistant who’d been helping him from abroad was the gorgeous, innocently provocative–completely infuriating–creature he now has to see every day. Despite the rumors, he’s never been one for a workplace hookup. But Chloe’s so tempting he’s willing to bend the rules–or outright smash them–if it means he can have her. All over the office.

As their appetites for one another increase to a breaking point, Bennett and Chloe must decide exactly what they’re willing to lose in order to win each other.

Review

I downloaded this for Free in iBooks.  I was surprised in that the characters were just so explosive, abrupt and obnoxious and I wondered how in hell they were going to get romantic?

The excessive drama between Bennett and Chloe in the first half of the book I have to admit I did not overly enjoy and it became tiresome and annoying.  Also when they first have sex and he does not use a condom, it did not make sense as he is the CEO, ambitious, smart and stubborn, why on earth did he have unprotected sex?  I mean I love a good boardroom sex scene but even I expected more from Chloe.  Then all the times they continue to have unprotected sex and magically after she just gets dressed, no clean up and she goes back to work no panties?

I loved the ending, it was perfect for me, the emotions and that wonderful moment for Chloe and her professional dreams being realised – it was beautiful.  It was interesting to see Bennett squirm and chase the woman he realised he does love.

San Diego was my most favourite time in the whole story, Bennett and Chloe opening up themselves to both each other and then also the reader.  I finally connected to them and their sex scenes at the hotel were passionate, romantic and sensual.

I actually would have loved to know more about Bennett’s mom, was she in the background manipulating, did the parents always want Bennet and Chloe to end up together.  I know his dad was very angry when they came back from San Diego and what happened to the guy they were setting Chloe up with – I actually cannot remember his name?

Will I be going on with the series? I have read the synopsis of the next few books and am worried they will be more excessive drama – so no.

Synopsis

Victoria Woodley is done with men. Fresh off a dating nightmare, she flies from her home in Chicago to Scarlet Springs to take part in her best friend’s wedding. Who picks her up at the airport? Eric Hawke. Of course. She made a fool of herself over him last time she was here. He’s cocky, charming, and sexy as sin. But the fact that she’s attracted to him is all the proof she needs that he’s bad news. She would ignore him if she could. But he’s the best man, and she’s the maid of honor. She can’t just tell him to jump in a lake—especially not when her lips are locked with his.

Eric isn’t looking for a relationship. Between running the firehouse and volunteering for the county’s search and rescue team, he has enough on his plate. He doesn’t need to get tangled up with a woman from the big city, especially one whose idea of roughing it is going without designer coffee. Yet from the moment he looks into Victoria’s big brown eyes, the attraction he feels is too strong to deny. Faster than he can imagine, the spark of desire that has smoldered between them since the first day they met will flare into full-blown passion.

But can Eric convince Victoria to set aside her doubts and trust him with her heart before their time together runs out?

Review

I enjoyed SLOW BURN, which is the second book in the Colorado High Country series.  The prologue is a unseen scene from the first book, which shows us how Eric and Vic first met.  After that, the story starts back up again one year after their first encounter and mostly takes place in the span of a week.  Because of that timeframe, I’d classify this as an insta-love.

I liked Vic, who is a smart and generous woman.  She’s also beautiful and rich, which are the two things that ended up causing her a lot of pain and suffering throughout the past year.  She’s struggling to overcome the fear that now plagues her, while learning to trust men again.  I think what I liked most about her was that she didn’t bend over backwards to win her family’s approval back.  I prefer to see a person cut toxic people out of their lives rather than clinging on to hope, so I loved that when she needed her family the most and they let her down, she cut them out of her life.  As with the first book, this story focuses more on Vic than on Eric, so I can’t say too much about him, other than he’s a really nice guy who is very good to his mother.  Oh, and he’s a firefighter. Do you really need to know anything else?

SLOW BURN is told in dual POVs and while it’s part of a series, it can be read as a stand-alone.  It also comes with a nice HEA for Eric and Vic.  Thankfully, there wasn’t anywhere near the amount of technical talk as there was in the first book, but there are still a lot of characters running around that are hard to keep track of.  As with the first book, there are a couple of I-Team character cameos, but again, you don’t need to read their stories.  At this stage, I have no idea who will get the next book, but I’ll be keeping an eye out for it.

Synopsis

New York Times Bestselling Author Janelle Denison brings you a classic marriage of convenience and secret baby trope that is fun, flirty, and filled with sensual romance.

Grace Holbrook believed she couldn’t have children, but now she was pregnant after just one night with sexy, bad boy Ford McCabe. She was delighted by the news, but not so thrilled when Ford insists they get married, especially when his recent return to Whitaker Falls after eleven years away is shrouded in secrets.

Ford has always wanted Grace. Even back when he was the town rebel and should have known better — until he was blamed for the death of her brother and was shunned by the community. Now a millionaire businessman, he’s back to claim what is rightfully his . . . including Grace and the baby they’d created together.

Review

Millionaire’s Proposal has all the ingredients for an easy to read light romantic escape story and it did not disappoint me at all.  I love second chance romance stories with a surprise pregnancy and this one was great.

Ford is one Millionaire who is working many angles, one is his heart and the other proving himself to the small town he left.  As a reader you immediately connected with him and wanted to see his life take a turn for the better with his one true love.

No real surprises as the Synopsis basically explains the whole story but you still get a few dramatic moments thrown in and it flows well.

There is also lots of tension between Grace and her dad after she accepts his proposal.

The ending is beautiful and you get a Happy Ever After with no unanswered questions.

What will he do with it when he discovers Emilia is already in love with someone else?sert

Review

Max and Emilia make you believe in good and that everyone can have a Clean Slate and start again.  Upon finishing it felt like my soul had been nurtured and fed by these two characters – a wonderful romantic story of two people and a beautiful future together.

Best first kiss I have read in a very long time – my god Max can kiss a girl and their sexual scenes were written beautifully with so much passion and heat – I was not disappointed.

Loved watching Max returning from Vietnam, answering all our questions and then over a few weeks engraining himself into repairing Emilia’s shattered heart. It was just fantastic, gave me butterflies and allows you to believe in fairytales and true romantic gestures.

This takes a surprising twist of danger with both Emilia and Max and their past partners and gives a great suspense element.

Emilia’s family were a great bunch of characters who provided humour to the story along with the emotional support for her.  It was interesting to see the incredible differences in the lives of Max and Emilia and how they grew up and evolved as adults.

I loved this story and we also get to see Carson & Lilli again from Lan’s The Forever Trilogy.

Quote: “Uncomfortably, muffin top stuffed”  – Emilia describing after Max has fed her!
