The Serpent’s Kiss (The Hunter Chronicles #4)

By Claire Marta

Synopsis

Jasmine Hunter’s addiction for the vampire bite is swallowing her whole. Left with no other choice; she seeks out the Master Vampire of London to ease her pain.

But Asier Serpico has his own agenda. Dark, lethal, and intoxicating; he offers sweet seduction and even more—pleasure. He wants to take her pain—and her body—from the one she loves.

Can Jasmine resist Asier while fighting to prevent the impending disaster of a new drug wreaking havoc on the city streets….

…or will London fall?

Review

Jasmine has a problem in the beginning of The Serpent’s Kiss.  She is now addicted to a vampire’s bite.  She doesn’t want to ask for Eric’s help so she turns to the only other master vampire in London, Asier. Asier can’t believe that Eric would ever let her go.  But he can’t say he’s sorry about it either.

Again Claire Marta takes us on a journey.  She threw another twist at us.  Jasmine really doesn’t know Asier.  He seems to have his own code that he lives by.  Jasmine needs help and Asier is more than willing to give it at a price.

There is also a mysterious drug that is killing humans. It seems to be connected to Asier’s club but he doesn’t know about it.  So Jasmine’s team is spending a lot more time in Liquor and Lust which means that Jasmine’s  secret might get out.

I liked Asier’s character.  He has a mix of good and bad guy that is very attractive even though my heart still belongs to Eric.  I also liked Asier’s right hand vampire, Kane.

Again Claire has a way of bringing this world to life.  I really see jasmine’s confusion about both men.  I do wish that we got to see more of Eric in this story, but I can also see that this series is really about Jasmine to this point.  I almost felt like it’s the devil you know versus this mysterious guy that once you get to know may surprise you.

Hunger: An Energy Vampire Novel #2

By Jacquelyn Frank

Synopsis

As an energy vampire, Halo enjoys the chase for human blood—if it’s pure and consensual. But Halo goes from hunter to hunted when he is knocked unconscious and taken hostage by vicious sycophants. As he comes to, he realizes that he’s naked, starving, and trapped in a sealed room. With him is a deliciously human female, tempting him to feed—except her blood is heady with the scent of poisonous drugs. Never has nourishment been so near, yet so far . . . and it’s all part of the sycophants’ sick game.

The last thing Felice Mendoza remembers is everything going black. She awakens stripped, drugged, exposed, and alone—with a vampire. Halo is at once savage and tender, terrifying and alluring. Felice senses that her only chance to escape depends upon his survival. Given the choice between Halo and his enemies, Felice surrenders to his ravenous hunger. It’s a calculated risk—and a delirious pleasure. As Felice is ushered into a world as dangerous as it is desirable, their fight for deliverance is only the beginning.

Review

In Hunger: An Energy Vampire Novel, we get to know Halo.  He finds himself kidnapped and and taken hostage.  He doesn’t know why he’s been taken or why he is still alive. But he does know that he only has a few days of energy left before he has to feed again.

Felice finds herself in a similar situation. But she is human. She is poisoned and given to Halo to feed off of.

This book is different from the first installment.  About the first 60 percent of the book takes place in a room where Halo and Felice are forced to get to know each other.  This is a great way for us to figure out what these characters were made of.  I really liked Halo’s never give up style and he was able to get strength from Felice.  Felice is smart and puts up a great front to show how much strength she really has. I also think that helped Halo really see the people who were already around him and that he isn’t alone in the world.

This story also had a good mystery to it.  I really liked how all was revealed in the end. I also liked that we are getting see what are the real motives of the phants are and that there might be a power struggle starting with them.

Wicked Bite (Realm Enforcers 5)

By Rebecca Zanetti

Synopsis

As she hunts for a drug lord killing her fellow witches, all Nessa Lansa’s instincts point to the Grizzly motorcycle club. That might be because their leader, Bear, is the strong, silent shifter type: warm brown eyes and more muscle and alpha male than any woman can ignore. Which makes Nessa’s plan to seduce and betray him all the more dangerous . . .

Bear doesn’t trust the curvy, blue-eyed witch. But Nessa can heal the injuries that sap his strength. And since he can’t stop thinking of her lush body and teasing smile, her plan to mate him to reclaim her own power is highly tempting. Just one problem. Once a desire this wild is loose, no one will ever control it . . .

Review

I have been waiting for Bear’s story since I read Wicked Burn.  Just like all the books before this one in this series, there is non-stop action, fast paced,  twist and turns and a budding romance. Rebecca Zanetti has carefully crafted all these characters together to make a seamless storyline.

Bear is a loner and sick.  In an effort to save his sister in Wicked Burn he changed into a dragon when his true form is a bear.  You can only change into one form. This change is now tearing apart his cells and they are not getting any better.

Nessa has stepped down from her seat on the Coven Nine Council.  She has traveled to Seattle to help heal Bear and to present him with a crazy idea.  She has many secrets that will change the shape of Bear’s world.

I really love these two together.  Bear needs someone like Nessa.  Their banter is so much fun to read.  She keeps him on his toes.  Nessa drives Bear crazy in all the right ways.  Bear is completely loyal but he expects honesty. He wants to help Nessa survive but he has other issues that he has to address.  Nessa wants to help Bear heal but she also has another agenda that she is trying to accomplish.   Not to mention the twists and turns that happens in this story to throw everyone off their game.  They still have an Apollo problem and there is still a group out there trying to kill witches.

I love where Rebecca Zanetti has taken this series.  I just can’t get enough!!!

Wicked Kiss (Realm Enforcers #4)

By Rebecca Zanetti

Synopsis

Working as an informant for the DEA, Victoria Monzelle is used to living on the edge. But she’s not a big fan of getting kidnapped. And definitely not by a bunch of bad boy witches with fancy-colored fire to shoot at people. So when Adam Dunne shows up and claims to be a witch enforcer, she’s not going to put her life in his hands based on his word, no matter how smooth and smart and beautifully Irish his words sound. But on the run from a tribunal of witches, she isn’t going to make it far . . .

Before she knows it, Adam’s word is all that stands between her and execution. Sophisticated, just-gotta-ruffle-him Adam has vowed to make her his one eternal mate, wild and unpredictable as she is-to save her from a sentence of certain death. But Tori isn’t interested in being anyone’s pity date. And if they think she’s unpredictable now, they should see what’s coming next . . .

Review

In Wicked Kiss we are taken on an adrenaline ride from beginning to end.  Rebecca Zanetti gave us a treat with Adam Dunne.  We were given some insight into Adam in Wicked Burn when he came to help Nikolaj Veis and Simone Brightston.  Tori was kidnapped with Bear and brought to Ireland.  She was thrown into a world that she didn’t know existed and now she is given a death sentence by the head of the Council for the things that she has seen unless she mates Adam Dunne.

I adored Adam.  He is in a tough position trying to stay an enforcer while his family is in hiding plus keeping Tori safe.  He knows that she is special but he doesn’t know in what way.  He is also working undercover trying to find out who is making Apollo.

Tori has no idea what’s going on.  She has been taken and now she has to figure out how to get out of a bad situation.  Tori is head strong and will not be forced into anything.  She also has secrets of her own.  She has a gift that no one else knows about.

I had so much fun with this story.  It has everything that I have come to love about this series in the perfect balance.  Including Humour, tons of action and a little heartache with a romance. Adam and Tori are perfect for each other but getting these two together is challenging.  I especially liked Tori.  She knew she was different and realized that made her special. There is a lot that goes on in this story and I don’t want to give any spoilers away.  I can’t wait for Bear’s story.

Bite Somebody Else (Volume 2)

By Sara Dobie Bauer

Synopsis

Imogene helped her newbie vampire friend Celia hook up with an adorable human, but now Celia has dropped an atomic bomb of surprise: she has a possibly blood-sucking baby on the way. Imogene is not pleased, especially when a mysterious, ancient, and annoyingly gorgeous vampire historian shows up to monitor Celia’s unprecedented pregnancy.

Lord Nicholas Christopher Cuthbert III is everything Imogene hates: posh, mannerly, and totally uninterested in her. Plus, she thinks he’s hiding something. So what if he smells like a fresh garden and looks like a rich boarding school kid just begging to be debauched? Imogene has self-control. Or something.

As Celia’s pregnancy progresses at a freakishly fast pace, Imogene and Nicholas play an ever-escalating game of will they or won’t they, until his sexy maker shows up on Admiral Key, forcing Nicholas to reveal his true intentions toward Celia’s soon-to-arrive infant.

Review

Bite Somebody Else is a comedy carefully put together around a small group of vampires and one human that now find themselves a family.  Celia and Ian are getting ready for their baby and everyone around them are still in disbelief.  Celia’s best friend is Imogene and they have an amazing bond. Lord Nicholas is called in to help with the pregnancy since no other vampire has ever given birth before.

I loved Imogene’s character.  She is non-apologetic and curses up a storm.  She is comfortable with her life and doesn’t see a need to change it.  She is also a bad ass that will do anything to protect her friends. Then Nicholas comes to town and she just knows that there is more going on than what he has told everyone.

Lord Nicholas is a vampire on a mission.  He is brought in to help Celia with her baby  But along the way he finds Imogene very interesting.  Nicholas is not a stuffy as he seems and he has a secret that he is trying to keep from everyone.

I have to admit that I did not read book one before reading this book but I didn’t find that I had any trouble understanding the dynamic of the bonds between all the characters. This book was extremely funny and a great read.  Sara Dobie Bauer did a great job with Imogene’s character. She really grew throughout the story.  (And I loved the baby’s first word.)  I liked how Sara made their world really normal and they had relationship issues like everyone else.   (Especially when the ex’s come back to town.)

Dark Experiments (Book 2)

By Lana Campbell

Synopsis

The opportunity to explore her secret fantasy appears when Christian offers her a job as the IT person for his practice, the V clinic. She knows if he gives her the green light, she’s going to have a romp with her sexy vampire. When the night finally arrives and she and Christian have sex, the experience is so overwhelmingly powerful, Tiffany backpedals and tries to turn down the heat between them. She’s human. He’s a vampire. She can’t afford to fall in love with him.

Christian has other ideas. During their sexual encounter, he discovers Tiffany is his life mate and he vows to change her thinking. His intentions are put on hold when he gets caught up in an angel of death’s vicious plan to chemically terminate V clinic patients’ pregnancies. She’s furious when she wakes from her turning and discovers what Christian has done. She wants nothing to do with him ever again, but when she’s kidnapped by this angel of death and used as a guinea pig for deadly experiments she only has Christian to turn to save her life.

Review

Dark Experiments picks up sometime after Forever and a Night.  Tiffany is going to work for Christian at the V clinic to help the practice get up to date on their computer system.  Christian is discovering how deep his feelings go for Tiffany.  And how much Tiffany feels about him but she has no desire to become a vampire.

I liked Christian in book one.  And I am really glad to see that he is still really close with Mia.  He is extremely protective over Tiffany and wants their relationship to keep growing.  He has a noble way about him.  Almost naive in a way,  He is extremely compassionate, perfect for his line of work.

I could understand Tiffany, even when I think she is really hard on the people around her.  She has a chip on her shoulder that will take time to figure out.  Tiffany also has some scary moments in this book that will change her life forever.

Dark Experiments had a good start and good suspense with a mystery to figure out.  The psychopaths in this book were written really well and I loved the family unit that was built around Tiffany.  But like Forever and a Night the editing was distracting in places and that made it difficult to lose yourself in the story.

Forever and a Night

By Lana Campbell

Synopsis

Nathan Davenport is being stalked by Isabella Ravini, the feral vampire who stole his human life over a hundred and sixty years ago. She made him her fledging, a slave for her dark, evil purposes—hunting humans. After a few years she released him, and Nathan reluctantly learned to accept the cursed life she’d foisted upon him.

Over time he amassed a great fortune, which today has made him famous worldwide. Isabella decides she wants to be a part of this world of fame and fortune Nathan created for himself. She’s determined to marry him, and love has nothing to do with it. His money is her primary target, and the fame and prestige attached to being the wife of one of the richest men in the world wouldn’t be so bad either.

In an effort to evade her until he can figure out how to stop her, he hides at a safe house he owns in New Orleans. One Saturday evening in NOLA, he decides to have dinner in the city. He chooses a quiet little Italian bistro, never imagining this night will change his life forever. The human woman who delivers his order isn’t a server, but the restaurant’s sous chef, a beautiful ethnic woman possessing the most delicious blood scent he’s ever encountered.

The moment Mia Peebles arrives at his table with his plate, tasting her becomes an obsession. Mia wants nothing to do with him because of Nathan’s reputation as a playboy. So Nathan enchants her, feeds from her, but his lusts for her blood and body play havoc with his thinking.

Nathan finds a way to bring her into his life as his personal chef and quickly falls in love with her. The trouble is Mia has no idea he’s a vampire because during the enchanting episodes, Nathan blocked her memories of those sensual encounters.

How will Nathan tell her the truth without losing her and keep Isabella from finding him? Or worst yet, will Isabella discover how much Mia has come to mean to him?

Review

Forever and a Night has an interesting story line of faith and love.  It also has a mix of evil and obsession.

Nathan is a vampire that wasn’t sure if he would ever meet his lifemate.  He had given up on the fact that she might be out there.  Watching his best friends, Julia and Dimitri, enjoy a life together made him wonder if he would ever find that happiness.  Even after he meets his one, he is still not sure if he can convince her to spend a lifetime with him.

Mia has deep roots in faith.  She is unaware of the existence of vampires.  All she knows is that she meets what she is considers a playboy and doesn’t think that he can be serious about a relationship.  After her failed marriage, she doesn’t even consider getting into another relationship. Mia is happy watching her children grow into happy adults.

I had a few issues with this Novel in general.  It had editing issues, especially in the first half. The second half when the action picked up between Isabella (the feral vampire) and Nathan, there were a lot less editing problems.  I did like the theme of the story.  But I found both Mia and Nathan to be annoying in places.  I wanted Nathan to just tell Mia to get over it.  And I found that Mia was a little bit of a hypocrite.  I didn’t mind the religious tones in the book but it felt forced by the end.

It was a really fast read and I really got into the second half of the book.  I loved Mia’s children and I liked the fact that Mia was middle aged. I’m looking forward to Tiffany’s book.

Wolf Hunt (SWAT#6)

By Paige Tyler

Synopsis

A STORM IS BREWING…
Remy Boudreaux is back in his hometown, New Orleans. He’s there with three of his fellow Dallas SWAT officers for a week of training with the NOLA PD. On the eve of a tropical storm, Remy and his buddies prowl the French Quarter. One tantalizing scent captures Remy’s senses, forcing him to follow until he is face to face with Triana Bellamy—his beautiful high school crush.

After reconnecting, Remy and Triana are close—very. Remy struggles to keep things casual. Ever since his partner—and first love—was killed on the job, he’s kept women at a distance.

But when a mysterious wolf pendant ropes them both into danger, Remy’s protective instincts kick in. He may have to reveal his true self…and hope Triana accepts him.

Review

I was really excited to read Wolf Hunt.  This seres has really grown on me.  Remy is an interesting character.  He had a traumatic transition into his werewolf life that had him swearing off falling in love.  It left him emotionally unable to move to a new relationship. Triana is an old friend that now looks like she could be “the one.”

I could really sympathize for Remy.  He truly felt love for another woman that had him believing that he would never fall in love again.  But I wanted to slap him more than once.  He doesn’t want to hurt Triana but he can’t see having a future with her. He has to find a way to get over his past and move on to his future.

Triana is head strong and independent.  She has her own secrets and there is a mystery revolving around her father’s brutal murder.  And even though the case is cold she will not give up on trying to find justice for him.  I also love the fact that she has her own reservations about the relationship but even though she doesn’t know about “the one” she feels a bond that she cannot turn away from.

Paige Tyler decided to take the SWAT team out of Dallas for Wolf Hunt and send them to New Orleans, which is one of my favorite places.  This made for a great location and added some more revelations for Remy and the other members of the pack. They must somehow help take down a drug dealer that also has secrets of his own.  Paige added tons of actions and suspense to this novel and I couldn’t put down the book in the last fight scene.

I still love the idea of “the one” and look forward to the continuation of these series.

Blade Bound (Chicagoland Vampire #13)

By Chloe Neill

Synopsis

Since the night of her brutal attack and unwilling transformation into a vampire, Merit has stood as Sentinel and protector of Chicago’s Cadogan House. She’s saved the Windy City from the forces of darkness time and again with her liege and lover, Ethan Sullivan, by her side.

When the House is infiltrated and Merit is attacked by a vampire who seems to be under the sway of dark magic, Merit and Ethan realize the danger is closer than they could have imagined. As malign sorcery spreads throughout the city, Merit must go to war against supernatural powers beyond her comprehension. It is her last chance to save everything—and everyone—she loves.

Review

Blade Bound is the final installment for Merit and Ethan.  For me, it was the perfect way to end their journey.  It brought their story full circle.  I loved how it had references to when they first met and how their love evolved. I couldn’t put this book down and even though I loved the ending, I still didn’t want it to be over.

Merit has grown so much even though it had only been a year.  She had discovered what she was capable of and found the love of her life.  She has an inner strength and loyalty that really matches no other.

I love Ethan.  He has also grown since meeting Merit.  He had learned how love affects people and how it effects everything in his life.  Ethan has always known what Merit is made of and made sure that she had the opportunity to become the person she was meant to be.

Blade Bound also had all the characters that we have grown to love throughout this series.  From Luc and Lindsey, Jeff and Merit’s grandfather to Catcher and Mallory.  And yes Catcher is still tying to get a Lifetime movie made out of their story.

This story has everything in it that makes the Chicagoland Vampire Series so great.  I really like how it highlights that fact that the humans and vampires still do not have a great relationship but the vampires will find a way to save the city.  I also couldn’t get enough of their wedding.  It touched on everything that makes them so great together.  I’m sad that this series has ended but I’m looking forward to the spinoff series and hope for some cameos.

Into the Fire (A Night Prince Novel #4)

By Jeaniene Frost

Synopsis

For nearly six hundred years, Vlad Tepesh cared for nothing, so he had nothing to lose. His brutal reputation ensured that all but the most foolhardy stayed away. Now, falling in love with Leila has put him at the mercy of his passions. And one adversary has found a devastating way to use Vlad’s new bride against him.

A powerful spell links Leila to the necromancer Mircea. If he suffers or dies, so does she. Magic is forbidden to vampires, so Vlad and Leila enlist an unlikely guide as they search for a way to break the spell. But an ancient enemy lies in wait, capable of turning Vlad and Leila’s closest friends against them . . . and finally tearing the lovers apart forever.

Review

Into the Fire is the fourth and final book in the Night Prince series.  And just like all the other books in this series it did not disappoint.  Vlad and Leila have true passion for one another. There is only one thing that can used against Vlad and that is Leila.

Leila is bound by spell to Mircea.  Mircea has daddy issues that have festered over time. Anything that happens to Mircea happens to Leila and that makes for a dangerous situation for Vlad.  Mircea wants to make Vlad pay.  But just has Mircea has the upper hand, he has been taken and used against Vlad because of the spell that was cast on Leila.

Into the Fire is so good.  It finishes this series in a spectacular way.  Jeaniene Frost has brought these characters to life for me.  Mencheres, Marty, Maximus and Gretchen all made appearances in this book.  But Ian made a huge impression on me.  He put so much humour into every facet of this book.  One of the things that I loved about this book is that you really see the passion that Vlad has for Leila and that they truly love each other.  Leila was very quick to stand up for Vlad even when he didn’t need it.

Leila also stands up for herself.  And when Vlad starts to be unreasonable and makes decisions for her, she has it out with him.  One things I love about these books is that they have strong female characters.  They always match their male counter parts with strength of character.

This book makes me want to read the whole series over again.  I can’t wait for Jeaniene Frost’s next book!!!
