Winter of the Wolf (The Wild Hunt Legacy #2)

By Cherise Sinclair

Synopsis

After years in foster care, Breanne Gallagher has the stable life she’s always wanted, living with her foster-sister, working as a chef, enjoying her comfortable routines. Then one devastating night, a hellish creature invades her apartment and shatters her fragile existence. Shifting between monster and man, it slaughters her foster sister and assaults Bree. Alone, wounded, her beloved home tainted by gruesome memories, Bree flees to a tiny wilderness town, following her only clue to her past.

Shapeshifting warriors, Zeb and Shay move from one pack to another, hunting the hellhounds which prey on their kind. Assigned to Cold Creek, they take over management of a decrepit fishing lodge for their “human” cover. Their first renter is a pretty human female who trembles at the sight of them—yet stands her ground. Furious at the hurt they see in her eyes, the protective nomads are drawn into helping her. Although no shapeshifter is ever attracted to a human, her scent is oddly compelling, and her ferocious determination to conquer her fears ignites longings neither loner ever expected to face.

Bree is healing, learning to shoot the biggest pistol she can find, and overcoming her fears, especially of the two deadly, disconcertingly attractive hunters. Her life is getting back on track…until she tries to save a little girl from a hellhound and discovers everything she knows about herself is false.

Review

Winter of the Wolf being book 2 of the Wild Hunt Legacy had everything a romantic paranormal I love had.

Zeb and Shay were totally alpha, however, they were incredibly protective of Bree and fought their way to finding a home.

Winter of the Wolf although a romance also includes a couple of side storylines.  One included the local wolf pack and its dynamics and changing of the guard.  The Wolf Pack runs and the interactions at these times provided great action.

At the beginning when we first meet Bree the hellhounds are introduced.  Action and drama are continued throughout with  Zeb and Shay hunting them down.  Zeb and Shay definitely fought Bree’s demons and slowly allowed her to be able to feel safe again.

It was great to see Vicki, again and how she is adapting to her life as a shifter. When Callum assisted Bree in a  heartwarming manner at her first Gathering I felt such relief for her.

Bree’s family history was interesting along with how she grew up, she had such a compassionate and nurturing personality.  Personally, Bree was very easy to connect to from the first chapter.  Bree cooking, caring and assisting Zeb and Shay in the lodge business was just heartwarming.

This story flowed well for me providing high and low moments.  The sexual chemistry between these three was sensual, romantic but also highly erotic at times.

In conclusion, Winter of the Wolf continues the Wild Hunt Legacy series in an easy to read and was highly enjoyable.

Valiant (New Species # 3)

By Laurann Dohner

Synopsis

Tammy has always tried to be prepared for any calamity life might send her way, but a sexy, lion man-beast is way outside the norm. He’s huge, has the most exotic, golden cat-eyes she’s ever seen—and she’s so terrified of him, she’s speechless for the first time in her life. He’s stalking closer, growling at her, and she’s too unnerved to even flee.

Valiant has always hated humans. But when he gets a whiff of the adorable human female who has invaded his territory, he’s forced to reexamine his feelings on the matter. Her fear scents of pure, sweet temptation and the closer he gets, the more appealing she becomes. Once he’s got his hands on her, he isn’t about to let go. One thought will change his life. MINE!

Before Tammy can regain her senses, she’s flat on her back in Valiant’s bed. Now he just has to use every inch of his big, buff body to convince her to stay with him forever.

Review

VALIANT is the third book in the New Species series, and Valiant is one of my favorites because of how incredibly sweet he is.  Sure, he can hunt and kill animals bare-handed.  Sure, he’s scary looking, growls a lot, and even other New Species are afraid of him.  But man, when he cares about something or someone, he is incredibly kind, sweet and very easy to love.  All he wants is companionship, a mate, and when he finds it in Tammy, he’ll do anything to keep her.

Tammy is lovely and she takes to living around New Species very well, but I can’t say much about her because in my opinion, Valiant really stole the show.

As with the previous two books in this series, there are scenes of brief torture that includes the threat of rape, which may be triggers for some readers.  We find out that there are still some Mercile facilities that haven’t yet been raided where New Species are still waiting to be freed.  We got to see a bit more of Slade and Trisha, who were hilarious in trying to keep their relationship and pregnancy a secret from Tammy.  VALIANT is told in dual POVs and comes with a HEA for Valiant and Tammy.

Wolf Hunger (SWAT #7)

By Paige Tyler

Synopsis

Wolf shifter and SWAT Officer Max Lowry falls hard for she-wolf Lana Mason, but things spiral out of control when wolf hunters track her down, and Max realizes Lana has no idea who—or what—she really is.

Review

Wolf Hunger is the seventh installment in the SWAT series.  Max, like all the other SWAT members had a tough transition.  He still has a hard time controlling his shift especially if he is confronted with domestic disturbance calls. Lana is just back from college and moved back in with her parents.  Her dad is also Deputy Cheif.

I loved Max.  He had such a rough childhood that led to his transition then he works hard to fight for the kids that are suffering.  The moment he meets Lana he is blown away by her. Unfortunately she has a very protective father who also happens to out rank Max.

This is a very confusing time for Lana.  She doesn’t know how special she is yet.  But she does know that she is crazy for Max and she isn’t going to let anyone make relationship decisions for her.

I think that this is my favorite so far in this series. There is definitely a rollercoaster of emotions that happen both inside of their relationship and with the other parts of this story.  There is still “the one” theme that is happening but I love the fresh take with Lana’s situation.  Plus, we go deeper into what the Hunters are doing and who is involved. I still love all the guys and the advice they give because each of them may know that they have someone out there but winning over that person is another story.

I love this series!!!  Each member of SWAT brings something new and you want to fall in love with each of them.  I can’t wait for the next installment.

Hour of the Lion (The Wild Hunt Legacy #1)

By Cherise Sinclair

Synopsis

As a dedicated covert ops agent, Victoria Morgan follows two rules: accomplish the mission and protect the innocent. When bitten by a werecat—yeah, that was a sucky day—she must investigate beings that shouldn’t exist and are hard as hell to identify. Just how can she tell if a person is human–or an animal-shifter who enjoys Bambi-sized snacks?

During her investigation, she finds a real home and friends for the first time. Sweet, right? But there’s a flip-side: the bad guys are waiting for her to turn into something four-legged with a tail, the shifters suspect her of spying, and she has fallen in love with a pair of Thumper-eating werecougar brothers.

Her duty is to expose their existence. Or she could follow her heart and protect them with all of her deadly skills.

Review

Hour of the Lion was a fast-paced read with lots of mystery and action.  However, it also included moments of emotion and deep connection between characters that helped to build a wonderful romance story.

Vic was headstrong, bold, determined and an honorable woman who was very easy to connect with.  Her emotional detachment was explained well and it was really full-filing to watch her find her own family.

Alec and Calum are great shifter characters and independent of each other but when they tag team – the sparks definitely flew.  The sex scenes both individually and together with Vic were off the charts hot and steamy.  The gatherings and traveling to the mountain helped provide history and explanation for me.  Callum’s daughter was another highlight especially her interactions with Vic and also when they first shift.

My only complaint was the character being Wells as it felt a bit rushed towards the end for him and how quickly he changed his perspective.

In conclusion, I am looking forward to the next installment in this series as I would love to hopefully see Vic pregnant by these two incredible alpha men.

Creep (Karma Inc. # 4)

By Gillian Zane

Synopsis

Case # 4 of the Karma Incorporated Series.

What goes around comes around…it’s called Karma.

Working for Karma Incorporated might sound like the best job in the world, but there’s one really big catch: you’ve got to die to get it. Cassandra Mercier died at the ripe old age of twenty-one and is now gainfully employed by the Afterlife Corporation as a Karma operative…and she’s been working overtime.

Cassandra is given the task of playing the psychic medium Castalia Rosso, and she’s on the hunt to give a few pretend ghost hunters a bit of cosmic retribution.

Her targets are two Creeps.

Twins Raul and Roselle, who have made a name for themselves in the ghost hunting community as renowned demon hunters. They’ve gotten so much notoriety that they’ve landed themselves a reality television show. The network insisted that they include a psychic on the show with them, though — and this is where Castalia Rosso comes in. Joining the twins on an investigation of one of the most haunted houses in the area, Cassie must expose the brother and sister ghost hunting duo, and all their dirty behavior and deal with some real ghosts all while trying to sort out her own tumultuous existence.

As the case gets more and more complex, so does the world Cassie exists in. Life and death aren’t exactly what they seem when working for the Afterlife Corporation.

Review

CREEP is another great addition to the Karma Inc. series, though I can’t say too much about it, because this series is connected and I’m trying not to give away any spoilers.  But I’m very glad my suspicions about Drake were confirmed.  Yes, we finally find out what Drake is, and it definitely makes things more interesting.  In this story, there was no further investigation into Cassie’s murder, but I think we’ll get a lot of information in the next book, given where her next case is taking her.

CREEP is told only in Cassie’s POV and ends in a cliffhanger of sorts.  Each book in this series is connected and cannot be read as stand-alones.  The next book in the series is CROOK, and though I don’t know when it’s coming out, I can’t wait to read it.

Slade (New Species # 2)

By Laurann Dohner

Synopsis

Dr. Trisha Norbit is flat on her back in a hospital bed, pinned under a really big New Species male. Though drugged out of his mind, he promises her ecstasy and is determined to deliver—but hospital staff intervenes. 215 is a man Trisha will never forget. But, when she meets him again at Homeland…he doesn’t even remember her!

The nosy new doctor wants to know all about the breeding habits between humans and Species. Slade proposes a hands-on education but she’s not interested in a one-night stand. He can’t offer more because he’s haunted by the memory of a woman he once tried to claim. He’s shocked when he realizes they are one and the same. He’s blown it—she’ll never give him a chance now.

But, when her life is in danger, he’s the only one who can save her. As they flee through the wilderness, their desire ignites and cannot be denied. Hot sex, on the run, has consequences that are even more dangerous and will change their lives forever.

Review

SLADE is the second book in the New Species series and, after reading FURY last month for the first time in a few years, I thought I’d keep going with the series.  My plan is to re-read and review one book in the series per month, so hopefully by the end of 2018, I’ll have the entire series reviewed on our blog.  Maybe by then there’ll even be a new addition to the series and I’ll be ready for it.  * Hint hint, Ms Dohner *

We met Trisha and Slade in the previous book, and there was quite a bit of tension between them every time they were in the same room.  In this book, we find out what’s behind that tension, but we also find out that while they “hate” each other, neither can deny their attraction.

“Don’t ever walk into my house again. What would you have done if I’d still been in the shower?”
“Walked in there to tell you they needed you at the center and handed you a smaller towel than you had on. Maybe a hand towel. Or a washcloth.”

Trisha is the lead doctor at Homeland, but her job isn’t going as well as she had hoped.  She wanted to treat New Species and learn more about them, but since they’re mostly non trusting of humans, she’s been relegated to treating other humans instead.  I felt bad for her, because you know that she really cares and just wants to help them.  Slade is pretty crude, and a lot of the problems between him and Trisha could have been solved if he wasn’t afraid to have an adult conversation.  But you can’t help but feel sorry for him because he kept ruining his chances with Trisha every time he opened his mouth.

SLADE is told in dual POVs and while it’s part of a series, it can be read as a stand-alone.  That being said, I think these books will be best enjoyed by reading the entire series in order.  Be warned, there is an attempted rape scene which may be a trigger for some readers.  Despite that scene, I found SLADE to be a lot more humorous than the previous book; the banter between New Species was more joking and at ease, and I absolutely loved the ending.

Forbidden Seduction (Lee County Wolves # 2)

By Teresa Gabelman

Synopsis

Hunter Foster single-handedly exposed the shifter community after shifting in front of humans to protect a Vampire Council Warrior. With no regrets, he heads home to answer for his crime of breaking an outdated law.

Back in his town, he is faced with rogue packs challenging their alpha, his brother, as well as the woman he has spent years avoiding. Finally, he has to come to terms with what his wolf has been telling him and what he as a man has been fighting against.

Review

FORBIDDEN SEDUCTION is the second book in the Lee County Wolves series, and it’s been over two years since I read the first book, FORBIDDEN HUNGER.  Because of that, I wondered if I’d have a problem following on from the first story, and I did, but not for that reason.  I hit a few trouble spots because some characters and events introduced and talked about in this book relate to a different series.  Because of that, I did feel like I was missing something, but it didn’t really affect my enjoyment of the story.

I liked Hunter, but his treatment of Emily when they were younger meant he had a lot to apologize for, and I don’t think he apologized enough.  That being said, I did feel that he was truly regretful for how he treated her and will spend the rest of his life making it up to her.

I loved Emily.  She was very sweet and she’d make sacrifices for those who deserved it, even if it came at her expense.  Her sister was a vile human being, and as much as I loved that Emily did stand up to her most of the time, there were some times that she didn’t and during those times, she did come across as a bit of a doormat.  If anyone deserved to be bitch-slapped, it was her sister.  But when she confronted Hunter about how he hurt her in high school, she was absolutely magnificent.

“Never in a million years did I think you or anyone else for that matter would have to be threatened to take me out. I’m actually a pretty nice person who’s fun to be around.”

FORBIDDEN SEDUCTION is told in dual POVs and while it’s part of a series, it can be read as a stand-alone.  Although, as I said above, it is connected to another series and if you haven’t read that other series, you might feel a little lost a few times throughout this story.  It’s a fairly quick read and a good way to spend a few spare hours, and I already have the third book waiting on my Kindle.

Mating Needs (An A.L.F.A. Novel #2)

By Milly Taiden

Synopsis

A cougar shifter meets his mate and match in this latest sexy paranormal adventure in the A.L.F.A. series as another Alpha League Federal Agent finds love and passion in the midst of danger by the New York Times bestselling author of Elemental Mating.

Review

Mating Needs is about a woman who had to make a tough decision to save the lives of the people she loves.  And she is still making sacrifices in order to do the right thing.

Amie is a witness to bank robbery gone wrong by members of her mafia family.  She must make the decision to go against her family and do what is right or say nothing.  She decides to do what is right but that means that she will need protection.  Frank, an old boyfriend that Amie left a text to say goodbye to, is now her protector.  Both of them  still have feelings for each other as long as they can survive her family.

I thought this book was so much fun. Amie has a great heart and really makes the town that Frank takes her to open up. She has so much to give the world and she doesn’t hold back once she is let loose.  Frank has a lot to figure out.  He still loves Amie but he doesn’t know why she left him.

The town is full of characters that really complete this book.  I love Frank’s mom, she loves her son and the person she believes is his mate. I also fell for all the other shop owns and the meat guy.  They all added so much to this story.

I also love the way the Milly Taiden added an extra problem for Frank by making him try to keep the fact that this town is made up of shifters a secret.  Amie has no idea that shifters even exist and that just adds to the fun.

Fury (New Species # 1)

By Laurann Dohner

Synopsis

Ellie is horrified to discover the pharmaceutical company she works for is doing illegal experiments. Company scientists have spliced human and animal DNA, creating exotic new species. One such “experiment” captures her heart and she’ll do anything to save him—even if he hates her for it.

Fury has never known compassion or love. He’s spent his life in a cell, chained and abused by humans. The one woman he allowed himself to trust betrayed him. Now he’s free and set on vengeance. He vows to end her life but when she’s finally in his grasp, harming her is the last thing he wants to do to the sexy little human.

Fury can’t resist Ellie—the touch of her hands, her mouth on his skin, her body wrapped around his. He’s obsessed with the scent of his woman. And Ellie wants Fury—always has. She craves his big, powerful body and wants to heal his desolate heart.

But loving Fury is one thing…taming him is another.

Review

I first read FURY back in 2011, and while I’ve read it two or three times since then, the last time I read it was over three years ago.  So when I woke up recently thinking about this book and not able to get it out of my head all day, I figured that was someone’s way of telling me to pick it up again.  Who was I to argue?

I’ve read every book in the New Species series, but it’s the first few books that I really love and that hold a special place in my heart.  They say you never forget your first, and that’s true because this is one of those stories that I can remember everything in it and yet still enjoy reading it.

I love Ellie, who is a very strong and brave woman but who also has a heart of gold.  She hates what the New Species have endured before and after their freedom, and her only goal is to help them.  I love Fury too, who, despite having lived a horrific life since birth at the hands of humans, is willing and able to put his trust in them now that he’s free.  He might be an alpha male, but there’s also this childlike innocence about him.

FURY is told in dual POVs and while it’s part of a series, the books can be read as stand-alones as each book is about a different couple.  There are a couple of scenes that involve rape and gently coerced consent, so if those things greatly bother you or could be triggers, consider yourself warned.

Koivu (Demon After Dark #3)

By Laurie Olerich

Synopsis

Former Hell’s Fury champion, Koivu, is desperate to return to Hell to reclaim his title and stolen life. As an extreme athlete, he had fame, glory, and more pleasure than he probably deserved. He was a freakin’ rock star! Being exiled in a broken human body is his worst nightmare. Stripped of his powers and unable to fight, he’s consumed by frustration, counting the seconds until he can go home. His future looks bleak until he meets a sexy, soft-hearted physical therapist who heals much more than his shoulder.

Physical therapist Micki Glass knows something about damaged people. She’s been struggling to get over her ex for three long years when this crazy man crashes into her life. He’s crude and intense but irresistibly charming. With his feral eyes and sexy smile, Koivu takes her on a sensual joyride that makes her feel like a woman again. As their affair heats up, she craves him like oxygen until she discovers what he really is. With more than her heart on the line, can she accept his past and love him for who he is now?

The day of reckoning is looming closer and the sacrifices have begun. Can Koivu stop the murders, find the rest of the Trinity, and convince the woman he loves to give him another chance before it’s too late?

Review

I am so addicted to this series.  Koivu is a ex-demon that wants to find his way back to Hell.  He had a good life there and wants it back.  He is now stuck in this body that is not indestructible and a physical therapist to help him fix it.  Koivu is unapologetic about his desires.  He likes women and sex.

Micki has the lucky job of fixing Koivu’s shoulder, even if it doesn’t always feel like it.  She has her own issues that she is trying to come to terms with. Lucky for her she might just have an ex-demon with ex-demon friends on her side.

I fell for Koivu even if he is a womanizing jerk.  His need to get back to Hell made him blind to the person that was right in front of him. He has intense loyalty to his team and to Lucifer. I really like the fact that he brings the human element to these guys.  We got to see the despair that all of us would feel if we were torn from our homes with no hope of ever seeing the people that we love again.

Micki really was the perfect match for him. Micki is really as damaged as he is. She is feisty though and that makes Koivu want her even more.

I also love this series because it takes a different look at good and evil, Heaven and Hell,  Angels and Demons.  There are other stories that are building in this book which I think will all merge together. The most interesting being the relationship between Raphael and Lucifer.  It is really interesting to see how Raphael helps Lucifer. And it is also a treat to see the Primani team and how they interact with the Demons. I can’t wait for the next installment!!!
