Synopsis

(Author note: This is NOT a dark romance.)

Delilah “Lily” Flynn is used to her drab existence. Lily’s been living it for twenty two years.
Her boring life is suddenly turned on its head when she’s rudely kidnapped from her bedroom.
Or so she thinks.

Nox Taylor is far too high up in his field to be assigned a babysitting job.
There’s nothing more he wants than to complete his mission so he can be rid of the smartass tomboy, Lily.

Day after day, Nox watches Lily and her strange ways. She’s unlike any woman he’s ever met.
Getting close to the girl is purely for her own protection…right?

Lily never imagined she’d make her first real friends in captivity.
What lengths would she go through to keep them?

**This is a stand alone novel and is unrelated to Friend-Zoned**

Review

Loved this – the characters both Nox and Lily but then also the supporting characters particularly Rock and Boo – Oh my I am not ready to leave this world – I could pick this up again as I want to go back to the beginning and follow their journey of friendship.

How the author can take us on a journey with Lily through the emotions of having her entire life being placed under the microscope and in control of strangers to then come out the other side such a strong and dynamic person, the true Lily was just waiting to emerge and I loved her fight, her passion and her ability to love unconditionally.  She was definitely held captive by forces out of her control but she fought her way to freedom to love and forge a new life for herself.

There is so much action, drama but the best part for me was the simple relationships and how they developed over the pages and then when Nox and Lily finally submit to their pure attraction well as the reader you are not left wanting at all – wink wink.

My favourite parts are when Lily after the first few days does not eat and the moment she gets clarity to own her situation and then when she is sitting on the bench at the cemetery towards the end of the book – those two moments for me were true turning points and my heart broke for two totally separate reasons.

The story is ended perfectly, it is all rounded up in a beautiful bow of a HEA and you get to see some magical moments in their life.

We are also given a sneak peak of RAW another of the authors work but this is defniately more on the dark side.

Join Connor and Ellery as they embark on a journey of courage, love and strength. Will it be enough to save them?

**18+ For adult situations and language**

Review

This is told from Ellery’s POV and what an emotional journey we are taken on, there are many secrets from both Ellery and Connor, this story is paced well and has moments of humour from great supporting characters and also Ellery’s pure headstrong personality. Connor and Ellery have great banter even in tough times and their chemistry was perfect.

I loved this story, it had me laughing, crying and feeling such happiness for true love and second chances.

Book 2 sees this story being told from Connors POV and so many questions will no doubt be answered.

You know you have a wonderful story when there are too many quotes to pick from, however this below quote for me is my favourite and probably a turning point for me in the story when Ellery the next day decides she is going to fight for her infinity.

Quote: “Why are you doing this?” he asked as he turned and looked at me. “Because I can lie here and no one will know I’m crying.” He looked at me for a moment and then back up at the falling rain. We lay there and didn’t speak a work.

Fallen Crest Public

Review

My how the mighty have fallen in book 3, this is my most favourite book of the series so far, Sam moves to the Public school and all hell breaks loose!  This was my third time reading Fallen Crest Public and I still get goose bumps and hate/love characters and struggle with the bullying component of this book.

The first time after the physical bully scene I put the book down for two days, it simply affected me on a level, my how I hurt for Sam, Mason & Logan.  I felt such injustice and that Kate had to pay for the games she was playing with her friends at the Public School.

Is it wrong that I felt affection for Brett Broudou, he again is one character I enjoyed in this section of the series and he of course played an important role in securing Sam’s safety when pieces of the puzzle were starting to fall into place.  Mason, Logan and their gang played their cards close to their chests and when push came to shove they in my opinion were such an incredible team of friends – I was fist pumping all the way towards the end of the book.

This had great drama, mystery, game playing and had me again guessing.

Another favourite part of this story was Sam and her dad David, their beginning journey to reconciliation and perhaps a new life going forward together as Father and Daughter and I loved the new dynamic in David’s life being his new love and how she stepped up and was the carer for Sam in her recovery.

Onto Fallen Fourth Down and cannot wait to continue with Sam and Logan in their final year at Fallen Crest Public, want to follow Sam with her running and also find out more about Tate and her opinion on Logan’s love.

Fallen Crest Family (Fallen Crest #2)

Synopsis

Samantha and Mason are together. Everyone knows it. Not everyone is dealing with it. While Mason’s ready to give them the middle finger, there’s one not going away. Her mother. Threats are issued. Ultimatums are given. Even blackmail is used, but only Samantha can put a stop to Analise. However, when a trauma from her past is triggered, she may not have the courage or strength to do what’s needed. If she doesn’t, Mason’s future could be destroyed.

Review

Book 2 of the Fallen Crest Series definitely gives you drama, heated moments and more chemistry from Mason and Sam.  What I loved the most was like the title tells you, it gives you a greater understanding of all the family dynamics, both for Mason & Logan but then for Sam & Annalise. The flashbacks given do answer so many questions from book 1but it gives you so many more questions for book 3!

This book covers the summer break, Sam is leaving Fallen Crest Private and transferring to Fallen Crest Public – yes I am really scared as there are some really mean girls and the power shifts are changing.

Whilst yes I love Mason and Sam, I do have an incredible soft spot for Logan and I think all his jokes mask perhaps some real hurt and betrayal however his connection to Sam as a stepsister is really endearing.

Love this series, love the characters, love the drama and look forward to picking up Fallen Crest Public (Fallen Crest Series #3).

Torture to Her Soul (Monster in His Eyes #2)

By J.M. Darhower

TORTURE

Synopsis

Don’t say it unless you mean it…

It’s a simple concept, one I’ve said time and again, but something people don’t seem to comprehend. You should choose every syllable carefully, because you never know when somebody will hold you to your word.

Somebody like me.

I’m not a good man. I’m not. I know. I have enough darkness inside of me to rid the world of every stitch of light. But there’s one I could never harm, one light I couldn’t bring myself to snuff out.

Karissa.

She thinks I’m a monster, and maybe I am. I taunt her with my touch, get a thrill out of torturing her soul. But I’m not the only one. The world is full of monsters, and I’m not the most dangerous one out there.

Not even close…

God help me, I love her.

I do.

And God help anyone who tries to take her from me.

Review

Great continuation from Monster in His Eyes (Monsters in His Eyes#1).

This is told from Naz POV which is interesting to see how he monitors the inner torture and turmoil that Karissa is struggling with and how he monitors and communicates with her.  I loved the mind games, the way they did not overly converse at the beginning but how body language and their daily actions were portrayed and gave you such emotion and raw power.

The story flowed really well for me and I could easily follow the many storylines with Ray and then both Naz and Karriss’s families.

More family secrets are revealed, we learn more of Naz and his Mob connections and how they continue to affect everyone around him and who is playing games.

How strong is Karissa to stand up for what she feels and believes she deserves, her love for Naz is amazing and Killer was a beautiful addition to the end of this story.

I am scared but really looking forward to reading Target on our Backs (Monster in His Eyes #3).  I have so many wishes for these two characters and I would love for Ray to get his just desserts.  I am not sure if I am ready to say goodbye to Naz and Karissa.

Monster in His Eyes (Monster in His Eyes #1)

By J M Darhower

Monster in His Eyes

Synopsis

Ignazio Vitale is not a good man.

I suspect it, the first time I see him, sense the air of danger that surrounds the man. He has a way of commanding attention, of taking control, of knowing what I’m thinking before I even do.

It’s alarming and alluring. It’s dark and deadly. It’s everything I’ve ever wanted but the last thing I truly need. Obsession.

It doesn’t take him long to draw me into his web, charming me into his bed and trapping me in his life, a life I know nothing about until it’s too late. He has secrets, secrets I can’t fathom, secrets that make it so I can’t walk away, no matter how much I beg him to let me go. I see it sometimes in his eyes, a darkness that’s both terrifying and thrilling. He’s a monster, wrapped up in a pretty package, and what I find when I unmask him changes everything.

I want to hate him.

Sometimes, I do.

But it doesn’t stop me from loving him, too.

Review

I read Monster in His Eyes first in 2014 and this is my second time – I loved it then and still do today, I have picked it up again as I need to read books 1 and 2 as I want to buy Target on Our Backs (Monster in His Eyes #3) and I want to return to Naz & Karissa.

The age difference (he is 36 and she is 18)  between Karissa & Naz  works for me as Karissa probably needs someone his age in her life considering the erratic and transient way she was brought up by her mother.  Karissa although naive in the ways of the world is also still very fragile but also adaptable and open to people outside the norm – hence her attraction and acceptance of Naz and his weird and overbearing ways.  I think she simply wants to be cared for and protected from the big bad mystery man.  Her life is hard and the way they connect right from the beginning is intense and very fast paced but again works, it is romance with handsome and debonair mafia men.

Naz – is he a monster?  In Karissa’s eyes he is caring for her and providing one minute beautiful slow sexual connections and then hot, fast passionate sex.  Nah has so many shades to his character, you are simply always kept wondering even as some secrets get revealed.

This is told from Karissa’s perspective which does help you understand her much better than Naz who is dark and dangerous.  There are so many clues dropped but they all do not click together until the end of this story, it definitely leaves you wanting more.

A Nun Walks into a Bar

By Piper Davenport

Synopsis

After growing up in an abbey, orphan Sadie Ross becomes Sister Abigail Eunice. Her life and career are on track until a chance meeting with a handsome stranger in a place no nun should ever go.

Ryder Carsen’s sister is missing, and he doesn’t have time for distractions. But when a pretty nun walks into his bar, he can’t ignore his attraction to her, even though she’s not the “sister” he’s looking for. He’s relieved when she walks out of his life for what he believes is forever.

Sadie’s life takes a surprising detour when she finds her path crossed with Ryder’s once again. When they are brought back together, Ryder knows he’s found the only woman he’ll ever love, but time is running out for his sister.

Will Ryder save his sister from the men who took her?
When a source far too close to home threatens Sadie, will she trust Ryder enough to let him save her too?

My Review

I just want to say this was a simply fantastic story, the title has you scratching your head but within the first few chapters I knew I was in for an amazing romantic journey.

Ryder – well what an alpha man, he knew what he wanted and went for it – he is protective and such a gentleman – surprising considering his upbringing and what stamina he has to stand by Sadie and her inner beliefs.

Sadie steals the show, is stunning, stubborn and simply sensuous when released into the real world.  We are given laughs, love and friendship, shown the strength of human compassion and I adored Sadie’s aunt – what a way to grow up and be given such guidance for living her life.

Sadie as a character connects to the reader from the first chapter, the way the story wove into her own coming of age and finding her place in the world was simply brilliant.

This is my third book by this author and I was not disappointed and this is actually my favourite so far, we are given a great suspense story that entwines the the romance journey that these two main characters are taken on.

I could pick this up again and start reading, it will be going into my “to be read” again list as it just made me feel so happy.

Us (Him # 2)

By Sarina Bowen & Elle Kennedy

Profile portrait of businessman working on laptop in black suit at studio

Synopsis

Five months in, NHL forward Ryan Wesley is having a record-breaking rookie season. He’s living his dream of playing pro hockey and coming home every night to the man he loves—Jamie Canning, his longtime best friend turned boyfriend. There’s just one problem: the most important relationship of his life is one he needs to keep hidden, or else face a media storm that will eclipse his success on the ice.

Jamie loves Wes. He really, truly does. But hiding sucks. It’s not the life Jamie envisioned for himself, and the strain of keeping their secret is taking its toll. It doesn’t help that his new job isn’t going as smoothly as he’d hoped, but he knows he can power through it as long as he has Wes. At least apartment 10B is their retreat, where they can always be themselves.

Or can they? When Wes’s nosiest teammate moves in upstairs, the threads of their carefully woven lie begin to unravel. With the outside world determined to take its best shot at them, can Wes and Jamie develop major-league relationship skills on the fly?

Review

What can I say?  I absolutely love Jamie and Wes.  Wes is cocky and funny, but when he’s alone with Jamie, he’s also very sweet.  He oozes confidence, but Jamie is the one chink in his armour because he’s truly afraid that he’s not enough to keep Jamie interested in being with him.  While Wes is your classic fun-time guy, Jamie is the more serious of the two and they compliment each other perfectly.  But no matter how much they love each other, their relationship is not all smooth sailing.  Wes wants to keep his sexual orientation a secret until his rookie NHL season is over, to be known for his skills on the ice instead of who he’s sleeping with.  And while Jamie understands and agrees, hiding is not something he likes or is used to.  The hiding, the constant fear that they will be found out and the stress of an NHL career all take their toll on them and their relationship.

US is told in dual POVs and is book 2 in the Him series.  I suppose it could be read as a stand-alone, but I’d recommend reading HIM first to see how Jamie and Wes got started.  The ending was beautiful and perfect, and I wonder if this is the last time we’ll see these two.  Maybe we’ll see more of them if Blake gets his own story⎯wink wink, nudge nudge, Elle & Sarina.  I wasn’t sure what to make of Blake initially.  He’s annoying, for sure, but he’s also stupidly funny and he proved himself to be a trustworthy friend and a really nice guy.  If this is the end for Jamie and Wes, I will miss them.  Lucky for me, I can pick them up again whenever I want.

P.S.  The Laundry Fairy does exist, just ask my husband.

Exquisite Trouble (Iron Horse MC #1)

by Ann Mayburn

Exquisite Trouble

Synopsis

Before I met Smoke I’d never been kissed, really kissed, by a man, let alone a biker sex god bent on taking my virginity and my heart.

I got dragged into the deadly world of the Iron Horse MC by my crazy twin sister who is engaged to the club’s President and even crazier mom who only cares about herself. Smoke has been assigned by the club to keep me safe even though he’s everything that I should be afraid of. He’s the kind of man who lives by his own rules and does whatever he wants whenever he wants, but he treats me like I’m something rare and precious, not a socially dysfunctional basket case who has no idea how to love, but needs him more than her next breath.

Not that my feelings matter, because if we don’t find my mother soon, the only thing I’ll have to be worried about is who is going to kill me first.

NOTE- This is Part One of a Two Part book with a ‘Happy for Now’ ending. Book Two, Exquisite Danger'(the final book in Swan and Smoke’s story) will be out this Oct/November. 🙂

My Review

So I am going to be downloading Exquisite Danger which is book #2 in this series as I cannot stop with Swan and Smoke – these two are on an amazing journey together and I simply do not want to stop.

Firstly – I love Swan she is simply exquisite,  what an amazing character with her afflictions and her story of how she was brought up.  I loved her background story, her dad and her sister Sarah and the way she grew up – how is she normal?

The way Smoke moulds and manipulates Swan is believable to me as he is so much older than her, I am glad he is older as Swan given her background is a mature young person and their relationship makes sense to me.

The sex scenes are off the charts and the mix of soft and sensual and then the BDSM parts are well so erotic and well written with great build up.

The mystery and suspense surrounding Swan’s mum and sister gives another angle to this love story and I hope we get some happy ever after for these characters.

The story is told over a a short period but considering Smoke has been watching Swan for awhile I can believe his emotional and physical connection to her.  He soothes her soul, gives her protection and shows her how to experience life.

Can I say one of my favourite parts was Smoke and her dad having “a chat” – had humour and was brilliant.

1. Hire someone to play her “lover”.
2. Don’t fall in love.

Easy…right?

Review

So lately I’ve been in a bit of a book funk.  You know what it’s like.  You read a book.  You like it, but you don’t love it.  Then when you finish it, you think more about what you didn’t like about it instead of what you did like about it.  Then you pick up another book and start the process again.  You wonder “Is it the books, or *gasp*, is it me?”.  Then finally, it happens.  You pick up a book that has you hooked from the start and you just can’t put it down.  You need to put dinner in the Crock-Pot?  Screw it, there’s cereal in the cupboard.  You need to hang out that load of washing?  It can wait.  You need to pick up your child/ren from school?  Ok, that can’t wait, so you better hurry your arse up and finish this book.  LOVE ME TO DEATH was that book.

Brennan is rude, cocky and a manwhore, so you’d think you’d hate him.  But he’s also attentive, cheeky, cheesy and very playful, and when you put it all together it creates one very charming package.  I liked that he was not afraid to break some of the contract terms because it showed that he’s not one to blindly follow the rules, and I think that’s exactly what Neddie needed.  He does occasionally act like a spoilt child, but he is only 25, so I guess that’s to be expected sometimes.  Neddie is an incredibly brave woman.  She’s also only 25, but she has a maturity about her that makes her seem older.  She knows she’s dying and while it terrifies her, she’s not going to let her impending death ruin whatever future she may have left.  She plans to live her life and live it well.  In short, Brennan and Neddie are perfect for each other.  He gives her a reason to laugh and have fun, while she helps him to grow up a little.

I absolutely loved LOVE ME TO DEATH and I couldn’t put it down.  It was the perfect combination of sweetness, laugh-out-loud moments and heartbreaking situations.  And sometimes you just need to read a book that has you reaching for the tissues.  But be warned, the ending will rip. Your. Heart. Out.
