Ruthless (Playboys in Love # 2)

By Gina L. Maxwell

Synopsis

People call me Ruthless for a reason.

Whether I’m in the court room or in the bedroom, my reputation is well-earned. I’m either working hard, working out, or working my way into some woman’s panties. But none of them share my particular kink, and I walk away feeling unsatisfied.

Until I met her.

She’s a friend of a friend, which makes her off-limits in my book. But then temptation had me by the balls and I had her up against a wall. She literally fucked my world off its axis, but it can’t happen again.

My plan was avoidance, but that got blown to shit when my firm hired her as a new junior attorney. Now I’m her boss, and I’m supposed to act like I don’t want to bend her over my desk every five minutes.

But I’ve never held myself back with anything before, so consequences be damned. It’s time to take what I want and show her how damn good it feels…to be ruthless.

Review

RUTHLESS is the second book in the Playboys in Love series and considering I thought this series was about male strippers falling in love, I was surprised⎯and a little disappointed⎯there was only one stripping scene throughout the entire story.  Hot men stripping?  More, please.

I loved Addison, who is a very smart and confident woman.  She’s not ashamed of her sexuality and is very capable of keeping her personal and professional relationships with Roman separate.  She’s a fierce woman who has no problem putting Roman in his place, but she’s not a bitch.  The only time she caused me to roll my eyes was when she realised she was in love with Roman immediately after having her first threesome with him and one of his friends.  I just couldn’t wrap my head around that one.

While I loved Addison, I wasn’t sold on Roman, a.k.a. Ruthless.  Roman is your clichéd playboy, one who avoids commitment because his parents are divorced and he occasionally handles divorce cases in his job as an attorney.  Even the breakup Roman caused was clichéd in my opinion.  I also wasn’t a fan of his physical description when he wasn’t in lawyer mode.  All the bling, piercings and chains were not a turn on for me.  But his sex scene were HOT!

RUTHLESS is told in dual POVs and came with a HFN ending for Roman and Addison.  While it’s part of a series, it can be read as a stand-alone.  We saw a lot of Roman’s best friend and stripper business partner⏤Austin⏤in this book, which has me wondering if he will get the next one.

Review

As a person who has never read a book by Jaci Burton before, I thought MISTLETOE GAMES would be a good way to check out her work.  It’s an anthology in the Play-By-Play series, and I assumed that all three novellas could be read as stand-alones.  That was the case with HOLIDAY ON ICE and HOT HOLIDAY NIGHTS, but not with HOLIDAY GAMES.  All three stories revolve around athletes and sports stars, and are told in dual POVs.

HOLIDAY GAMES is a follow up story to CHANGING THE GAME, book 2 in the Play-By-Play series.  For the most part, I thought it was enjoyable and I liked both Liz and Gavin.  For a novella, there was a lot of sex, so much so that I began skipping the sex scenes just to get back to the story.  The story not only catches up with Liz and Gavin, but with all the Riley clan and their partners, so there were a lot of people to try and keep track of.  I think I would have gotten more enjoyment out of this story if I’d read the previous books relating to this family.

Rating:  4 Hearts

HOLIDAY ON ICE is the story of Trick and Stella, two people who are not interested in a relationship but who end up falling in love with each other.  I liked Trick and thought he was great boyfriend material, but Stella didn’t win me over.  Her reason for not wanting a relationship⎯and then using it to break up with Trick⎯was ridiculous and silly.  Despite really liking Trick, I felt this novella was the weakest in the set.

Rating:  3 Hearts

HOT HOLIDAY NIGHTS is the story of Tori, Alex and Ben.  Yes, this novella is a threesome story and is definitely the raciest in the set where I didn’t skip the sex scenes.  Tori is a middle-aged woman who starts a holiday fling with Alex⎯who’s younger then her⎯and Ben⎯who’s her age and Alex’s manager.  Their story takes place in a very short period of time and I’d classify it as an insta-love.  While I enjoyed this story the most, I found some of the dirty talk to be a little laughable, and sometimes the POV would switch without any notice, which caused some confusion.

Wicked Need (Wicked Horse # 3)

By Sawyer Bennett

BR Wicked Need

Synopsis

Rand Bishop’s dreams of Olympic gold were shattered years ago but he’s left that all behind, settling into a new career and lifestyle that would make any man jealous. While he may not be competitively racing down the ski slopes anymore, he’s just as happy getting his rocks off as a Fantasy Maker for The Silo.

He’s good at what he does.
Damn good.

But while life couldn’t be better for Rand, it seems to be falling apart for Catherine Lyons Vaughn, the dark haired, brown-eyed beauty that has captivated an entire sex club.

Having spent years degrading herself on her husband’s whim and now left destitute after his death, Catherine has hit rock bottom. With nothing but her body to peddle, Catherine is merely trying to figure out how to survive in a harsh, cruel world. Lucky for her, Rand has taken her under his tattooed wing, and he’s determined to give her a safe life where she can be the woman she was always meant to be.

Now all Catherine has to do is believe she deserves the chance.

Review

In WICKED NEED, we have Cat, a young woman left homeless and penniless after her much older billionaire husband died and cut her out of his will.  When Rand finds her sleeping in her car in the Silo parking lot, he offers her a place to stay while she gets back on her feet.  Cat’s had a fairly miserable life.  Her mother neglected and used her and she’s never known her father.  She married a wealthy man in the hopes he’d provide her with a home and financial stability, but she quickly learnt that she had to earn those two things by servicing her husband’s associates.  What can I say about Rand?  He’s a nice guy who likes to help those in need.  His financial future is set thanks to his time as an Olympian.  He’s very adventurous when it comes to sex, so anything goes, and I do mean anything.  In short, he’s nice, he’s rich and he’s a kinky mo-fo.  Really, what more do you need to know?

What I really liked about this story was how open and honest Rand and Cat were with each other.  They revealed all their secrets and were both very mature when it came to their relationship.  When Rand’s ex-girlfriend popped up, he didn’t try to hide it for “Cat’s own good”.  He hung up the phone and told her all about it.  When Cat revealed what her life has been like, Rand held no judgement and gave her the encouragement to move forward with her life.  When Cat had doubts about her self-worth, Rand went above and beyond to show her that she meant something to him.

Rand:  “I’m falling in love with you and I’m sorry if that makes you uncomfortable, but you need to know for a woman who doesn’t think she amounts to much, you’re pretty much amounting to my everything.”

WICKED NEED is told in dual POVs and while it’s part of a series, it can be read as a stand-alone. I think each book in the Wicked Horse series gets better and hotter.  The scene with Cat, Rand and Logan was F#$&ing HOT!!!  God, I’d love to be a fly on that wall.  Scratch that.  I’d love to be Cat in that room with those two hot men going at it.  Damn!  Sawyer told me this was the hottest one yet and she wasn’t kidding, but I honestly think it could get hotter still.  What I’ve noticed is that when the men of the Silo meet their women, their need for the Silo tends to fall away, which I suppose is romantic, but at the same time it kinda sucks.  Let’s face it, the series is based around a secret sex club, yet we don’t see much action happening inside the club.  From memory, this story only contains two scenes in the Silo and one of those didn’t even involve sex.  Logan’s story is next in WICKED RIDE, which comes out on June 28 and maybe, just maybe, we’ll see some more scenes from the Silo.

Live (NOLA Zombie # 3)

By Gillian Zane

BR Live

Synopsis

Alexis, Blake and Zach survived the zombie apocalypse but found a new enemy to fight.

Alexis has been taken and Zach and Blake are desperate to find her. The men are pretty certain they know who took Alexis, but finding them will be a daunting task. There are millions of places to hide in the swamps of Southern Louisiana but Zach and Blake will not stop until they’ve searched every one of them. Alexis will be returned to them if it’s the last thing they do. Falling back on their military training, the men have no choice but to succeed, or risk losing Alexis forever.

It’s a race against the clock…

The problem is that the group that took Alexis didn’t keep her. They sold her. She’s now the property of the Southern Clan, a fate worse than death. The undead still roam the streets of New Orleans. S-Island mourns the loss of one of its own and the NOLA Zombie series comes to a stunning conclusion. You don’t want to miss a second of this action-packed series ender…

Be warned, there will be monsters, living and dead, there will be very intense sex scenes, between two men and one woman, and there will be violence galore.

Review

LIVE is the final book of the NOLA Zombie series and is a much larger book than the previous two.  But when I say it’s the final book, that might not be the case because at the end we got a snippet of JUSTICE which is called book four in the series.  So perhaps what they mean when they say it’s the final book is that it’s the final book in Alexis’s, Blake’s and Zach’s story.  That would make sense because while those three get their HEA, the story is definitely not over and has been set up for what will either be book four in the series, or the first in a spin-off series.  Either way, I’m looking forward to the next phase of this story.

LIVE is told in Alexis’s, Blake’s and Zach’s POV, which was a little tricky at times, especially with the two guys.  Most of the book is about Alexis’s time in captivity and the boys mounting their rescue mission.  We got a look inside the camp and learnt the true horrors of what goes on while it’s run by the lowest forms of humanity.  There’s action, revenge, love and sex with two very hot men.  What more could a girl ask for?  While the men are hot, Alexis is my favourite character because she’s tough, smart and cool under pressure.  And she can kick some serious arse.

They should know better, I was never one to wait around for a knight in shining armor.  Fuck the saving, just show up after the fact and give me the happily-ever-after kiss.  I’ll take that.

Wicked Fall (Wicked Horse # 1)

By Sawyer Bennett

BR Wicked Fall

Synopsis

Never in your wildest dreams could you begin to imagine all the filthy and depraved things that go on inside The Wicked Horse. Step inside and Woolf Jennings will make every one of your dirty fantasies come true.

He’s covered in a facade of deception. An enticing blend of multi-millionaire and hot-as-hell Wyoming rancher, those that think they know Woolf Jennings admire his abilities to preside as CEO of his family’s cattle and oil empire. But only a privileged few truly understand what fuels the glitter of depravity in those gorgeous blue eyes. Only a few know he’s opened up a sinfully erotic and private sex club named The Wicked Horse right at the base of the beautiful Teton Mountain range.

Sweet Callie Hayes has returned home to Wyoming and is looking forward to starting her life over again. After a night of impetuosity, she’s managed to put herself right in Woolf’s line of sight… the man who she foolishly offered up her virginity to years ago and was flatly turned down.

Now Woolf is seeing that Callie is all grown up and has a kinky side to her that leaves him as confused as it does turned on. Worse yet, both Callie’s dirty desires and sweet heart are getting under his skin, and making Woolf question everything he’s ever believed about himself.

Review

WICKED FALL was a good start to a new series.  Woolf isn’t really happy with his lot in life, not really having a choice but to step into the CEO role of his family’s cattle and oil business.  He needs an outlet, something else to focus on, so he opens up The Wicked Horse, a country bar and nightclub.  But this is merely a cover for the real business operating behind the rear exit doors; The Silo, a private members-only sex club where members can act out their deepest and most wicked fantasies.  Woolf and his best friend, Bridger, run the club together and both take full advantage of what their members and staff have to offer.

I loved Woolf’s sense of humour and hearing about some of his past exploits was hot.  I did have trouble with how quickly Woolf seemed to change his ways though.  He went from having threesomes with Bridger and participating in gang bangs to having a monogamous and almost vanilla relationship with Callie.  As soon as she came into the picture, he couldn’t even get excited about another woman.  He did struggle with the idea of committing only to Callie and giving up his kinky lifestyle, but it wasn’t much of a struggle.  I’m glad his heart realised a good thing in Callie when she came along, but his switch happened a little too quickly for me.

I liked that Callie was pretty open minded when she discovered Woolf’s lifestyle.  She didn’t try to change Woolf and she didn’t really try to change herself for him either.  But she was curious about what it would take for her to keep a guy like Woolf so she experimented a little with him.  I liked that she wasn’t filled with shame after what she did.  She did feel a little guilty but Woolf did a great job with explaining the situation and his feelings, and she accepted his words and was able to move on.

After reading the synopsis, I was expecting a lot of dirty, raunchy sex in WICKED FALL, but sadly there wasn’t really much at all.  The most erotic scene was the threesome between Woolf, Callie and Bridger and even that was a bit on the weak side, at least for me anyway.  There’s plenty of sex between Woolf and Callie, but it’s certainly not filthy or depraved.  It was hot and it was fun, but that’s about it.  I’m assuming that the raunchy epilogue that involved Cain will lead us into book 2, and maybe Sawyer is slowly building us up to the good stuff for the next books in the series.  I can only hope that’s the case.

A Million Tiny Pieces

By Nicole Edwards

milliontinypieces

Synopsis

My Review

A Million Tiny Pieces is erotic, exciting, enticing, emotional and will make you so hot, horny and no joke tingle in all the right places.  This is an erotic ménage story but it is also about finding love and your place in life for three different individuals who are Mia, Phoenix and Tarik.

Tarik is hot and so god dam forceful the freak owns the room wherever he is, he is a bodyguard and he will make your toes curl (he was my favourite male).  Phoenix the other male character likes control and is fighting his urges and Mia is how can I say it, the meat between the stud sandwich and looking to put her heart and life back together after a marriage breakdown.

I actually have not read a Menage romance in a long time and really forgot how much I love them, obviously told the right way and Ms Edwards does not disappoint.   Give me a woman inbetween two men anyday and shit I get all hot and horny and need my husband to take the edge off. So image my surprise when there are a few M/M scenes and well Ms Edwards knows how to write them as I found myself reading them and not skimming as I sometimes do.  She put so much emotion into the scenes I found myself savouring each and every scene, word and sentence of an erotic encounter whether it was M/F/M, M/M or M/F.

The overlaying story regarding Mia’s ex-husband gives us suspense and mystery.  There is a great ensemble cast of characters including friends and family members that give the book soul and I would read this book again and again.

If you have not read a ménage this one is a perfect start – take the plunge you will not be disappointed.
