Review

There’s not much to say about ONE NIGHT WITH YOU given that it’s a prequel novella to the Fatal Series.  I have read all book in this series and have loved each and every one of them while watching Sam and Nick’s relationship evolve.  This was just a cute, quick and hot read as to how Sam and Nick met and the night that left them with very fond memories of each other, memories they would hold dear for six years until they found each other again.  I liked reading about the goals Sam had for her career, knowing that they’ve since come true.  I really liked the humour between Sam and Nick, something I don’t think you really see anymore now that their lives are so busy and stressful.

Married ’til Monday (Chapel Springs # 4)

By Denise Hunter

BR Married 'Til Monday

Synopsis

With a big anniversary party in the works for his ex-wife’s parents, Ryan has just one weekend to play Abby’s husband . . . and win back the woman of his dreams.

Ryan McKinley has tried to move on from his ex-wife, Abby. He’s sulked, he’s gotten angry, and ultimately he bought her dream house. Big mistake. Living alone in the massive two-story has only made him miss her more. When her parents call him out of the blue about their anniversary party in Summer Harbor, Maine, Ryan believes God has dropped a golden opportunity straight in his lap.

Abby McKinley never exactly told her parents about the divorce. A strained relationship with her dad has culminated in a distant relationship with her parents, but she’s finally succumbed to her mom’s pressure to make the drive for their 35th-anniversary party.

Then Ryan shows up on her doorstep, looking as handsome as ever. When he insists he’s going to Summer Harbor, with or without her, Abby knows she can’t say no. Her parents still think they’re married and now Ryan knows it too. It’s just a one-week road trip with the man who broke her heart. What could possibly go wrong?

Review

Ryan and Abby were young and madly in love when they got married, but a single event slowly tore them apart until they felt they had no other option but to end their union.  Three years later, Ryan’s love for his ex-wife has never wavered.  After answering a very odd phone call from Abby’s parents, he sees his opportunity to get the love of his life back, and this time he’s not letting her go.  But he knows that Abby is a stubborn woman and won’t make it easy for him.  He can’t push too hard or too fast or he’ll lose her for good.

Abby is a tough woman to like at first.  She’s stubborn and always appears to be looking for a fight, so focused on the negative that she can’t see anything positive.  But her childhood wasn’t a pleasant one, and when the truth is revealed you understand why she acts the way she does.  Being forced to carry the burden of someone else’s bad actions has left her bitter and distrustful of anything if it appears too good to be true.

Ryan is the complete opposite and you can’t help but love him right from the beginning because he’s so sweet and very patient.  From their first meeting, to his proposal, to his attempts at wooing her back, it’s all perfect and oh so sweet.  And he really did love Abby.  I think that’s another reason why I didn’t really like her too much.  He seemed to be trying so hard and she was completely blind to it all, too focused on making everything out of nothing.

MARRIED ‘TIL MONDAY takes place in present time, but also includes flashbacks to when they met and when their marriage fell apart, some even going as far back as Abby’s childhood.  While it is part of a series, it can be read as a standalone.  This is a Christian romance, so there are references to God, but there was nowhere near as many references as I was expecting.  There’s also no sex in this story at all, and being that this is my first Christian romance, I’m not sure if that’s standard or not.  But you know what?  This story is so beautiful and romantic, I didn’t miss it at all.

Beautiful Affliction: A Dark Billionaire Romance

By Celia Loren

BR Beautiful Affliction

Synopsis

When 24-year old struggling artist Cora MacAuliffe takes a job as a live-in maid for the old money Redmond family, the last thing she expects is to fall for her new boss, the dangerously sexy Brent Redmond.

The self-made billionaire lives a double life—in public he’s a shrewd real estate mogul and philandering playboy, but in private he’s a brooding, enigmatic protector…and a dominant alpha with sexual desires that no socialite princess has ever been able to satisfy.

Cora soon finds that Mr. Redmond has more inappropriate “chores” he’d like to add to her list of duties, things that definitely blur the lines between their employer and employee relationship.

But when the Redmond family’s previous maid turns up murdered, and her body is found nearby, Cora realizes that the Redmonds are hiding a dungeon of dark secrets—some that they might kill to protect.

Everyone could be a suspect…even Brent.

Review

Beautiful Affliction starts with the Redmond’s live-in maid going missing.  The Redmond’s (Brent especially) were investigated, but with no body and no proof of a crime, they were ultimately not charged.  Since the investigation and the stigma attached to it, they’ve been unable to fill the maid’s position again.  Having just finished a live-in assignment herself, Cora’s not afraid of the rumours and takes the position.  What she is afraid of is her strong reaction to Brent when she sees him for the first time.

Brent fares no better, angry at himself for lusting after his new employee, causing him to break his own rules when it comes to her.  But she is his employee so once he realises he’s gone too far, he pulls back so fast it gives the reader whiplash.  He tries to keep the sexual side of things professional, but once you mix business with pleasure, trying to keep things professional is probably pretty useless.

When the maid’s body is discovered and Brent’s business is being investigated for missing money, Brent becomes the main person of interest.  Add in to the mix that one of the detectives is Cory’s ex-boyfriend and the household is full of people keeping secrets, things are bound to get tense.

I quite enjoyed Beautiful Affliction and the scenes between Brent and Cora were hot.  Really hot.  The storyline was good and I liked the mystery that surrounded the dead maid.  However, I felt the book was a little weak, especially regarding the murder and its resolution.  Despite what the synopsis says, Cora is not a struggling artist.  A person can’t be struggling at something they gave up on.  She’s dealing with some guilt over something she feels responsible for, therefore she lost all interest in her art classes and feels she doesn’t deserve to have anything good in her life.  When the reason for that is finally revealed, it’s glossed over.  Actually, that’s how every big reveal was handled, it was discussed before quickly moving on to the next reveal.  Other than that, I thought it was a quick and light read with some hot sex thrown in.  I think if things were delved into more deeply, fleshed out a little more, it would have been a great read.

Review

BLIND ATTRACTION is the story of Alana and Mitch.  Alana has been sheltered her whole life and has made the decision at age 27 to live a little.  She attends a Reckless Beat concert with her best friend Kate and is immediately drawn to the lead guitarist, Mitch.  Mitch is equally drawn to her, winking to her onstage and even going out of his way to face the fans (in disguise) to ask her out.  Well, he sort of asks her out.

“Meet me backstage later?”

So simple.  So direct.  I love it.

After organising to meet up at the band’s hotel after the concert, a disgruntled employee attacks and Mitch turns into a knight in shining armour to save the day.  However, Alana is left injured from the attack and Mitch gets his wish of spending more time with her under the guise of looking after her while she can’t look after herself.

“I’ve always wanted to be a gentleman.  I’ve just never had the opportunity.”

The chemistry between the two is amazing, but both have bouts of melancholy when they realise the relationship can’t go anywhere with the band travelling so much.  They silently vow to enjoy the time they have left and part on friendly terms at the end.

Of course, that doesn’t happen and their separation ends up filled with sadness and anger.  But Mitch finally comes to his senses and realises how much he needs and wants Alana in his life.  And you end up with a lovely HEA.

There was only one little thing that annoyed me and that was how Alana constantly referred to her mother’s issues with men and the reasons why she was sheltered her whole life.  I just felt it was mentioned too many times.

So I won a copy of BLIND ATTRACTION from Eden Summers in a FB event.  Ms Summers is a new author for me and she has made me her bitch fan.  I’ve read a few books recently that had me rolling my eyes, huffing loudly and just struggling to finish in a timely fashion.  Not BLIND ATTRACTION though.  I loved it from the start and didn’t want to put it down.  It was nice to connect with a book where the story was believable, the characters were likeable, drama was not dripping off every god-damn page, and the sex.  Sigh.  The sex.  That scene with Blake?  Left me with a serious case of wet panties.  TMI?  I don’t care.  It was that H O T ! ! !

“I can’t take a single breath without wishing I was touching you.”
