Review

First of all, I Love the newly revised cover and I had not read the previous version of this story released under Sophie Oak.    Upon finishing I have many questions and I do hope Siren in the City (book 2) will intensify Sam, Jack and Abby’s love story.

The connection between Sam and Abby I felt to my bones, he was caring and had humour and their interactions were lovely.

At times I found Jack hard to connect with, he was definitely an alpha male and has many underlying issues.  Hoping that in book 2 we uncover more of Jack and how his relationship with Sam and Abby is going to develop.

Jack, Sam & Abby’s sex scenes were well written and pushed all the right buttons.  When they all joined as one in the bedroom this was a favourite moment because this was very emotional and worth the build up.  Whilst Sam immediately connected to Abby’s distress, unfortunately, Jack did not which I did struggle with being he was the Dom in this group relationship.

Abby’s history with the town and the way people treated her broke my heart at times.  She was such a strong woman to bring up her daughter all by herself.  We do get to meet her daughter at the end of the story.

I will have to admit I was left slightly disappointed with the 6-week jump at the end of this story.

Daddy’s Home

By Zoe Blake

Synopsis

No one escapes their past.
Two years ago she ran, but now he has found her.
He will make her pay for her past mistakes.
Trapped alone in a cabin with him, there is no hope for rescue or redemption.
He wants information and refuses to believe she doesn’t have the answers he seeks.
He’s willing to do anything…anything…to break her.
And he will get what he wants.

Review

Daddy’s Home is a quick and very decadent read, a bit longer than a normal novella.  By saying that it means we got much more of a story along with the instant attraction.

Logan manipulates and controls Chloe in a dark and very sensual way.  It definitely hits all the right spots.

Due to having a hard life growing up, Chloe is very young at heart.  Despite her love of all things youthful, she had a darkness and strong sensuality.

Chloe’s past connections in her short life have been dangerous and they provide the drama and mystery.

Also, I really connected to Chloe from the first few pages, she was a loner for so long she needed to be cared for and Logan was perfect.

Finally, Daddy’s Home is finished off nicely and I was satisfied and could have read so much more on this couple.

Double Trouble

By Sierra Cartwright

Synopsis

One love. One obsession. Double the trouble.

This time, he won’t take no for an answer.

For three years, Daniel Armstrong has wanted the beautiful, fiery Bridget Kelly. But when he sees her at Houston’s premier BDSM club and realizes she has an interest in submission, his determination reignites. A charity auction provides a means for him to possess her and do good at the same time. Who could resist? Focused solely on Bridget and the decadent delights he intends for her, he outbids everyone to claim her.

Helpless, trapped by the glare of a spotlight at an auction she never agreed to participate in, Bridget is stunned when bidding for a weekend with her goes higher and higher.

She’s frantic when she realizes the gorgeous, successful Daniel Armstrong has won her. For years, she’s been attracted to the renowned heartbreaker, but she’s kept him at a distance to protect herself.

Then one night, she sees him at a BDSM club, and there’s no doubt he recognizes her submissive tendencies. Now that the devastating Dom knows her naughty desires, she’s doubly determined to avoid him.

When he claims her, she believes things can’t get worse. Then he introduces her to his identical twin, Jacob. Suddenly, she’s faced with not one, but two men determined to make her every fantasy come true and take her to the heights of submission.

Review

Double Trouble I thought had everything that would make a hot, steamy and highly connected menage romance. Twin brothers and a stubborn and independent woman having a wild weekend away together.

Whilst I enjoyed the overall story I have to admit that I found it hard to connect to the leading lady, Bridget. There was a moment in chapter 11 where she showed her depth of emotion and feeling for the guys and I was thought we were finally turning a corner. She was devastated with the way Daniel ended the weekend and I too felt incredibly sad for her.

The guys Jacob and Daniel were characters easy to connect with and their brotherly banter was a favourite part.

The story flowed very quickly, perhaps too much towards the end as it did feel slightly rushed. I would have enjoyed seeing how these three business people moved forward in their lives together juggling their BDSM lifestyle.

Being a BDSM story there was plenty of intense erotic scenes however I felt there was not enough after care. Perhaps that is where we may have seen more emotional connection between the characters. I really wanted Daniel and Jacob to show more loving care to Bridget and not all the time their Dom tendencies.

If you are looking for a quick and easy BDSm read you will enjoy Double Trouble.

Ripples

By Aleatha Romig

Synopsis

Ripples: A Consequences Stand-alone Novel

You don’t have to read the Consequences series to enjoy this stand-alone novel, but if you know Tony Rawlings, you know that disappointing him isn’t an option. Imagine being his youngest daughter…imagine telling him the unimaginable…

“Those who don’t know history are doomed to repeat it.”

Sometimes ideas find you, and dreams begin as nightmares. Sometimes the truth that has been kept hidden is the key to opening a door you never knew existed.

“You might not know me. I’m the baby of the Rawlings family, the princess, the daughter who came along later. I’m not like my older siblings, successful at everything they touch. My mother and father have provided me with every luxury as well as their unyielding love and support, but I’m not spoiled. I’m also not content. By example, my parents have shown me how love should be. I don’t know their past, and that doesn’t matter. I know what I’ve seen—two people devoted to one another.

I don’t believe that I’ll ever find that kind of love, the kind that forgives and accepts all. And as my life falls to pieces and I travel to visit my family to face their disappointment, I’m not even looking for it.

I’m looking for an escape…from my life as a Rawlings…from the pressure to achieve and not let others down. I dream of the time I can live for my own desires without the expectations that come with my name.

I don’t find what I’m seeking…it finds me. Or should I say…he finds me.

This time is different. I have a family who will search for me and find the answers. Little do we know—any of us—that my father set my journey into motion long before I was born.”

“Just as ripples spread out when a single pebble is dropped into water, the actions of individuals can have far-reaching effects.” ~Dalai Lama

Ripples (Unabridged Version) is Natalie’s story, the youngest of Tony and Claire’s children—their baby. This story first appeared in shorter form in Glamour: Contemporary Fairytale Retellings. Due to the length restriction of each novella in that anthology, many scenes in Ripples were shortened or omitted for that anthology. This unabridged edition is the entire story—double in length and—a full-length novel.

Please enjoy this Consequences novel along with special appearances from your favorite Consequences characters.

Review

Ripples left me wanting so much more for Nat and Dexter. The author notes at the end, let’s hope these characters keep talking so we can continue on the journey.  I loved this story of Claire and Tony’s younger daughter.  She is so like Claire in personality, it gave me the shivers.  I had not read the shorter version so this was a totally new romance for me!

The pace was perfect and the jumping of time in the hidden room was spot on.  Natalie’s experience was so much more intense than her mother’s so it was great to have a totally different feel, this was dark.  The way Dexter manipulates and conditions Natalie is frightening and yet left me aching for so much more. There are many clues woven from the Rawlings history into this story and it had me shaking my head wondering where we were going to be taken.

Unfortunately, I found myself hating Nichol in this story due to her lack of compassion for her sister. Underestimated as the younger child, I loved Natalie immediately.  It is going to be interesting if we are going to get behind the façade of Nichol and her hardness, what are her issues?

What I wanted more of was the conversations between Tony and Dexter, what happened in the study when they first meet.    The moments that Claire and Natalie have made my heart hurt for a mother’s love, that Claire knew in herself that things were not as they seem for her youngest.

I do hope we get more stories around the children of Tony & Claire, I want to see where Natalie and Dexter are going to be taken, how is Tony going to make Dexter see the Consequences of his actions?

Finally, again Phil is my hero as he always was when we first meet him in “Truth”, he has an undying love for all things Claire in such a protective way, including now her babies.

The ending of Ripples leaves me with more questions than answers.

Cross (Devils Nightmare MC)

By Lena Bourne

Synopsis

Cross

I’m the guy whose name brings fear into the hearts of even the hardest men. They call me Cross, because I’ve killed enough men to fill a cemetery, and I never saw any problem with that. Until a woman, I hardly remember brought my eleven-year-old daughter that I didn’t know existed, to my doorstep and left her for me to take care of.

At first, my daughter was a complication I didn’t need, but now I’ll do everything I can to raise her right. I’ll even stay away from her hot-as-sin guidance counselor Roxanne, who makes me feel like I’m twenty again, and not pushing forty. Which isn’t to say I wouldn’t show her what a real man can do with a woman like her.

Roxie

My father was the president of an outlaw MC, and until I turned twenty-one a world of bikers, mayhem and crime was all I knew. Then a rival gang destroyed it all, killed my family and everyone I held dear, and made me the property of a brutal, ruthless man. I ran away, got an education, and haven’t looked back.

Now I’m the guidance counselor at a small town junior high school, my old life so far behind me it might as well be someone else’s past, and I was happy to leave it there. But then I met Cross, the bad boy biker father of one of my wayward students. He makes me yearn for the life I lost, crave all the excitement that used to be my everyday. Makes me want to be a bad girl again, if only for one night.

But I won’t go down that road again. It doesn’t lead anywhere good.

Cross: Devil’s Nightmare MC is biker romance novel, which contains steamy sex scenes and deals with disturbing themes that may be uncomfortable for some readers. Intended for 18+ audiences.

Review

I thoroughly enjoyed reading Cross and it was my first book by this author. Beginning with a traumatic event for Roxie and entwining to current day with suspense.

It was fantastic to follow as all the pieces of the puzzle started to form.  Paced perfectly and kept me entertained and wanting to turn those pages and not leave the characters.

Their romance has a slow build up at the start as Roxie really fought the pull of returning to what she grew up in.  Cross was definitely the alpha male protector for her.  Roxie has a great inner strength and her trauma as a young girl was intense.

The relationship with Cross and his daughter was an interesting inclusion.  I thought the whole Motorcycle group of characters around Cross provided great support to the story.

My favourite component was Roxie’s family history. I loved how Cross stepped up with his Motorcycle group and repaired her life.

Finally, it has a great balance of romance and action that will keep you entertained until the last chapter.

Scandalous (Sinners of Saint #3)

By L J Shen

Synopsis

They call him The Mute for a reason.
Hard, cold and calculated, he rarely speaks.
When he does, it’s with disdain.
When he does, his words aren’t meant for me.
When he does, my stomach flips and my world tilts on its axis.
He is thirty-three.
I am eighteen.
He’s a single dad and my father’s business partner.
I’m just a kid to him and his enemy’s daughter.
He’s emotionally unavailable.
And I am…feeling. Feeling things I shouldn’t feel for him.
Trent Rexroth is going to break my heart. The writing isn’t just on the wall, it’s inked on my soul.
And yet, I can’t stay away.
A scandal is the last thing my family needs. But a scandal is what we’re going to give them.
And oh, what beautiful chaos it will be.

Review

Scandalous again proves the Hotholes are one dynamic tribe of men hell-bent on supporting each other – they are family.

Surprising me were the many twists in this story and I did not guess any of them.  Perfectly planned plots will have your second guessing characters and motives. Many times I put the book down and had to take a moment as I was petrified for Edie.

Edie was a simply stunning character, her strength, and resilience.  Her father was a major manipulator and his evilness knew no bounds.

Many times I had to put the book down and take a moment as I was petrified for Edie.   At times I truly felt such deep despair for her and such hatred for the adults in her life.

Edie and Trent’s sex scenes were off the charts hot.  They offered different levels of emotional connection between them.

Trent’s daughter Luna was a beautiful character and I saw hope for Edie.

Scandalous again proved that the Hotholes are a united front and I have thoroughly enjoyed this entire series.

Ruckus (Sinners of Saint #2)

By L.J. Shen

Synopsis

Rosie

They say that life is a beautiful lie and death a painful truth. They’re right.
No one has ever made me feel more alive than the guy who serves as a constant reminder that my clock is ticking.
He is my forbidden, shiny apple.
The striking fallacy to my blunt, raw, truth.
He is also my sister’s ex-boyfriend.
One thing you should know before you judge me;
I saw him first. I craved him first. I loved him first.
Eleven years later, he waltzed into my life, demanding a second chance.
Dean Cole wants to be my bronze horseman. My white knight has finally arrived. Hopefully, he isn’t too late.

Dean

They say the brightest stars burn out the fastest. They’re right.
She sets my mind on fire.
All smart mouth, snarky attitude and a huge heart.
In a world where everything is dull, she shines like fucking Sirius.
Eleven years ago, fate tore us apart.
This time, I dare it to try.
Getting to her is a battlefield, but man, that’s why they call me Ruckus.
Rosie LeBlanc is about to find out how hard I can fight.
And conquering her will be the sweetest victory.

Review

First of all, I did not think I could love a couple more than Vicious and Emilia.  Dean and Rosie have matched them in their own unique way and their sex was insanely hot.  Their love story is full of time lost and a desire to rewrite their expected future.

Rosie had my heart in Vicious and again I had immediate compassion for her and her condition.  The author portrays her health in an honest and thought-provoking manner.  This certainly kept me guessing whilst reading the last few chapters of this book.  Which way was she going to take the love affair of Rosie & Ruckus?

Throughout Ruckus,  we do return to when they were all teenagers and I found this especially relevant in understanding Rosie and Deans underlying love for each other.

The humour and banter between Dean and Rosie is perfect and gave lightness to some dark moments in both their stories.

The girls parents were awful and the smothering of Rosie, it drove me insane.  Emilia also was not being entirely honest with her sister and then also judging Dean.

It was great to see more of all the HotHoles and how their lives were changing with new influences.  I am very intrigued to read Trent’s story which is next and called Scandalous.

Vicious stood up for his friend in the end and the role he played showed he has a soft centre under all that fierce and ruthless businessman facade.

Vicious and Emilia were an integral part of this love story and it was beautiful to see them moving forward together.  The ending was just perfect for me and gave me tingles and tears.  Dean stood up and became such a strong man for Rosie.  The author gave these two characters a possible dream and it shone like the stars in the sky.

Blemished

By Juliet Braddock

Synopsis

A tragic accident in the middle of an immobilizing blizzard joins Gavin Fletcher and Chloe Cabot, uniting two tarnished souls on a life-changing journey that defies the odds of their haunting pasts.

Beautiful and imaginative, Chloe struggles to survive the daily grind of life in Chicago. An artist who never dared to explore her dreams, she takes pride in her independence and fends for herself at all costs.

A young advertising executive who’s rising fast within the industry, Gavin has built an ordered and precise life, but he’s much more lonesome than he’ll ever admit.

Both exist in worlds veiled in secrecy.

On the surface, Gavin’s life exudes perfection. He’s building his own thriving business, but beneath that slick exterior, he’s hiding the truth about his enigmatic lifestyle.

Chloe, on the other hand, has been dealt a rough hand in life. As details of her heart-wrenching past emerge, she fears she might lose Gavin for good.

Together, though, they discover solace in each other’s arms. While Chloe blossoms as Gavin’s submissive under his tough but tender tutelage, she wonders if he might just be the one to break the façade of fear that surrounded her heart.

Just as emotion transforms Gavin and Chloe from reluctant strangers into unlikely but enduring lovers, heartbreak strikes their relationship again, forcing an unforeseen reversal of roles.

Review

Firstly, I love the cover of Blemished and it fits with this story.

I loved the beginning when Chloe and Gavin first meet and he provides her a safe haven.  Gavin cares for Chloe but also opens her heart to passionate possibilities.  This part of the story I loved and then following their building sexual chemistry was fantastic.  I loved seeing Gavin help Chloe recover and start to build her future with her artistic aspirations.

Blemished’s flow slowed for me during the middle and I found myself pushing through. Gavin to me lost some of his edginess and it felt bogged down.  Surprised is an understatement with the turn of events for Gavin after the Island holiday.  To be truthful I actually did not like this part of the story and also I have to mention the turtles annoyed me somewhat.

Chloe, I loved from the first chapter to the last, she had such strength and her personal story was tragic but inspiring.  I really did think her past would provide a more suspenseful outcome than what it did, it kind of fizzled out for me.  I found the whole scene in Gavin’s office lacking somewhat.  Chloe to me owned this story, she made me want to turn those pages when I felt let down by Gavin.

In conclusion, loved the ending, it brought me back into the love story of Chloe and Gavin,  I felt hopefulness for this couple.

Long For Me (Luminous #3)

By Stacey Lynn

Synopsis

I’ve seen what happens when you give everything to a man. That’s not what I want. I won’t have my heart crushed in anyone’s fist.

Then he changed everything.

Him. Bennett Ashby. My boss.

Seeing him at Luminous, dressed in leather pants and wielding a whip…

Do I crave this?

My mind says no, but my body is starting to have very different ideas.

Bennett

I knew Rebecca Morales would be the perfect assistant. That’s why I hired her.

I didn’t know that working with her every day would lead to temptation—to own her, to possess her.

When she walked into Luminous, I knew I was screwed. Dipping your pen in the company ink is never smart, but we both agreed what happens at the club stays there.

One night and then it’s back to business tomorrow.

Except I don’t want just one night with Rebecca. I want them all.

Review

Long For Me had all the magical components of an intense and erotic romance.  Bennett and Rebecca had perfect chemistry and their story kept me engaged.

Whilst I have not read the other two Luminous stories you can read Long For Me as a standalone. Meeting both previous couples from the Luminous series it will make you want to read those two stories.  Rebecca’s neighbors were wonderful and this friendship circle continued to strengthen by supporting and guiding her, the dinner party was interesting!

The physical scenes between Bennett and Rebecca covered the whole range from erotic to sensual.  Bennett cared for Rebecca and it was interesting to see him break down her deeply seated walls from her upbringing.  Bennett had an amazing ability to read Rebecca and bring out her inhibitions.

A favorite part for me was their business relationship and how Rebeccas shone in that area and that Bennett did acknowledge her skills.  Long For Me was more than just a BDSM story, personally, for me, I savored Rebecca and her growth as a woman making her own decisions.

Review

WICKED FAVOR is the first book in the Wicked Horse Vegas series, which is a spin-off of the Wicked Horse series set in Wyoming.  I should point out that you do not need to read the previous series before delving into—and enjoying—the Vegas series.  I know this is only the first book, but I got the impression this series will stand on its own.

I liked Jerico, and I think a lot of readers will too.  He’s a take-charge and generous man, not to mention he’s really hot and great in bed…and anywhere else he wants to have sex.  That being said, some readers might have a problem with his desire to exact his revenge on Trista’s brother by shaming Trista’s sexuality.  Yes, you find out his reasons behind it and you know he won’t go through with it, but it still might be a little hard for some readers to take.  But in the end, you can’t help falling for a man who finally realizes that the love of a good woman is more important than revenge.

I really liked Trista, who is a lot like Jerico in that she’s very nice and generous, and is not afraid to go after what she wants.  Her siblings are awful people, but her mother and her niece are worth all the sacrifices she makes for them.  I also liked that she stood up for herself whenever Jerico said or did something insulting, and how she didn’t wait for him to come to her for forgiveness.  Instead, she sought him out after she had some time to calm down and was ready to hear the whole story.  There were no games with Trista.  What you saw was what you got.

The sex in WICKED FAVOR is hot, but if you’re after hard-core sex scenes, you won’t find them here; Jerico is into light kink, but not anything BDSM related.  I will say that the conflict was predictable as soon as Jerico hatched his plan, but then I don’t think it was supposed to be all that hard to figure out.  The twist with Trista’s loan shark though was good and I didn’t see it coming at all.  WICKED FAVOR is told in dual POVs and comes with a very lovely and very sweet HEA for Jerico and Trista.
