Blemished

By Juliet Braddock

Synopsis

A tragic accident in the middle of an immobilizing blizzard joins Gavin Fletcher and Chloe Cabot, uniting two tarnished souls on a life-changing journey that defies the odds of their haunting pasts.

Beautiful and imaginative, Chloe struggles to survive the daily grind of life in Chicago. An artist who never dared to explore her dreams, she takes pride in her independence and fends for herself at all costs.

A young advertising executive who’s rising fast within the industry, Gavin has built an ordered and precise life, but he’s much more lonesome than he’ll ever admit.

Both exist in worlds veiled in secrecy.

On the surface, Gavin’s life exudes perfection. He’s building his own thriving business, but beneath that slick exterior, he’s hiding the truth about his enigmatic lifestyle.

Chloe, on the other hand, has been dealt a rough hand in life. As details of her heart-wrenching past emerge, she fears she might lose Gavin for good.

Together, though, they discover solace in each other’s arms. While Chloe blossoms as Gavin’s submissive under his tough but tender tutelage, she wonders if he might just be the one to break the façade of fear that surrounded her heart.

Just as emotion transforms Gavin and Chloe from reluctant strangers into unlikely but enduring lovers, heartbreak strikes their relationship again, forcing an unforeseen reversal of roles.

Review

Firstly, I love the cover of Blemished and it fits with this story.

I loved the beginning when Chloe and Gavin first meet and he provides her a safe haven.  Gavin cares for Chloe but also opens her heart to passionate possibilities.  This part of the story I loved and then following their building sexual chemistry was fantastic.  I loved seeing Gavin help Chloe recover and start to build her future with her artistic aspirations.

Blemished’s flow slowed for me during the middle and I found myself pushing through. Gavin to me lost some of his edginess and it felt bogged down.  Surprised is an understatement with the turn of events for Gavin after the Island holiday.  To be truthful I actually did not like this part of the story and also I have to mention the turtles annoyed me somewhat.

Chloe, I loved from the first chapter to the last, she had such strength and her personal story was tragic but inspiring.  I really did think her past would provide a more suspenseful outcome than what it did, it kind of fizzled out for me.  I found the whole scene in Gavin’s office lacking somewhat.  Chloe to me owned this story, she made me want to turn those pages when I felt let down by Gavin.

In conclusion, loved the ending, it brought me back into the love story of Chloe and Gavin,  I felt hopefulness for this couple.

All I Am (This Man #3.5)

By Jodi Ellen Malpas

Synopsis

A new novella featuring Drew from the #1 New York Times bestselling This Man trilogy!

Jodi:
I’ve been revisiting a few old friends. You remember Drew? The dark, mysterious pal of Jesse’s? The cool guy, who kept himself to himself? Yes, him! It’s time for Drew to shine in a brand-spanking-new THIS MAN Novella coming June 18th! I can’t tell you how much fun I’ve had going back to my roots, and I just know you’re gonna LOVE Mr Davies. I hope a little something while you’re waiting for THE FORBIDDEN (Aug 8th) will put a smile on your face as wide as mine ☺

I thought I had control. I was so, so wrong . . .

I don’t need a relationship.
I have Hux, a decadent club where I quench whatever raw desire I choose. I take pleasure and I give it—no strings attached. So when Raya Rivers comes in asking for someone cold, emotionless, and filthy . . . well, no man ever takes his wicked pleasure quite the way I do.
Only Raya is different. Vulnerable. And carrying some deep sorrow that gets past all my carefully constructed walls and inexplicably makes me care. Now craving controls me. Ice has given way to red-hot need.
But Raya has no idea about my other life—my real life. That I’m a daddy to an adorable little girl.
My two worlds are about to collide with the force of a supernova. And once Raya knows the truth, will she be able to accept all I am?

Review

All I Am, that moment for Drew when he is not looking for something and he finds it in the form of Raya and she too believes if you don’t have anyone, you can’t lose anymore.  Drew’s story is fast flowing and I could have read so much  more on this couple but in some ways it was perfect  as I for one wanted as little of Coral as possible!

How gorgeous is his pigdge? I really loved how the author included Georgia in so much of this story and it was perfect as she was the centre of Drew’s world – it was well thought out and clearly defined the kind of man he now was.

It was wonderful to return to the threesome of Jesse, Sam and Drew and how they still support each other through their 40’s was great to see.  How they supported each other and the humour in realising Drew had finally met his match provided some magic This Man moments.

I certainly did a happy dance seeing Jesse, Ava and the kids, it was like returning home and capturing another glimpse into their lives post the Manor.

Can I say I loved Raya as a character, she was beautiful and obviously just what Drew needed, the age difference for me and her background story provided warmth in allowing Drew to thaw his cold heart with trusting women.

My favourite part was the three men and little lady scene in the car – it had me laughing at a time where my heart was beating out of my chest wondering whether Drew would get his happy ever after.

Drew was one character from the This Man Series who always intrigued me and I am so happy we got to see his life after the Manor.

Quote:  If happiness was a chain, it would be platinum with solid hearts between every link and entwined around my swelling heart.

Crave

By Dani Rene

Synopsis

Samael
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
Can love overcome hate?
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
When I first laid eyes on the perfect little blonde,
I didn’t think she’d change my life.
But the first time I tasted her, felt her, took her,
I knew she was mine.
I laid a wordless claim because as much as I desired her,
I couldn’t have her.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
I craved the dark, she filled me with light.
I loved delivering pain, she craved it.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
Opposites merged by circumstance.
Hearts melded by passion.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
Angel
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
Can light defeat darkness?
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
I should have feared him.
Everything about him was drenched in the darkness he exuded.
But one glance into his cobalt eyes, and I knew I was his.
My heart allowed him entry, as did my body.
And after the first time, my soul recognized his.
Desired what he delivered.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
I craved his darkness, he bathed in my light.
I submitted to his desires, he craved my very being.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
Running from him wasn’t an option.
Fate bound us in its intricate pattern.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
*This is a dark romance, suitable for mature audiences, 18+ ONLY. Strong sexual themes and violence, which could trigger emotional distress, are found in this story. Certain scenes are graphic and could be upsetting to some. This story is NOT for everyone. Proceed with caution. Discretion is advised. This is book one of the Forbidden Series, but can be read as a standalone. Each book will feature a different couple. There is NO cliffhanger.

Review

Crave will take you to a place that will make you cry, shake with fear and make your skin crawl, it is everything a dark and erotic story has and so much more but you need to be strong and Angel is an incredible character and shows what the mind and heart are capable of.

Crave is dark and even I struggled with the storyline and at times I became desolate and I admit right here at some points I skimmed a paragraph as I could not cope with what Angel was going through.  I struggled with the hurt and degradation to her at the hands of old men.  There is so much darkness in this story and you are not given light until the last few chapters and by then I was so depressed and raw, upon finishing Crave it took me awhile to process this story.  When Samael found those tapes in his dad’s office that was the final straw for me, it broke my heart.

Crave is dark, more it will break your soul and for a moment in time you will think humanity has forgotten Angel and then Samael does eventually save her and can I say the ending restored my hope but left me raw.

I do not think I could ever read this again but I am so glad I read Angel and Samuel’s story, I am not brave enough to return.

For His Eyes Only (Masters and Mercenaries Book 13)

By Lexi Blake

Synopsis

A night he can’t forget

Five years ago, Nick Markovic found himself consumed by his quest for vengeance. The one time he managed to find peace was in the arms of Hayley Dalton. Being with her was like bathing in sunlight, and he ached to feel that again, but he couldn’t. He gave his oath to Hayley’s cousin Desiree, his partner at McKay-Taggart and Knight, that he’d never let his darkness infect Hayley’s innocent world.

A spark she can’t put out

It was years before that Hayley offered everything she had to Nick. After that one amazing night, all she wanted was to be his forever. Unfortunately, Nick’s reaction was to walk away from her and never look back. The warm and caring man she’d discovered was gone, and after Des’s death, he’d only grown colder. But when Hayley finds herself in mortal danger, she’s forced to seek protection from the man who broke her heart.

A flame that threatens to consume them both

Haunted by the women he failed, Nick can’t allow himself to grow close to Hayley again. Running to stay ahead of the powerful forces that endanger their lives, they travel from the lush Garden in London to the glittering lights of Rio. As the threat against her becomes clearer, he realizes that to keep her safe he must confront the demons from his past, even if it costs him a future with the woman he loves.

Review

Some of my friends may say that I have an obsession with this series and they would be correct. For His Eyes Only is a great addition to this series.

Nick is a man who choose retribution over love.  He had a chance to run off with the woman he fell in love with and live a happy life five years ago but he choose to follow the other woman in his life to avenge his sister’s death.  The other woman was Des who we meet and lost in Master No. It was really interesting getting to know the true nature of their relationship.  Des was a sneaky woman that dragged Nick around.  I don’t think even he knew the depths which she would sink to.

Hayley was a girl who fell for a man that wasn’t ready to leave everything else behind five years ago.  She was Des’s cousin and kind of the black sheep of the family.  The English part of her family saw her as the poor American. After losing her cousin and dad she is just going from day to day.  After she read the letter from Des stating that if she is ever in trouble she should find Nick, her house blows up and she knows that she is being followed.  She shows up on the door step at the Garden in London.  They have to work together to keep Hayley alive and to give Nick a second chance to correct past wrongs.

For His Eyes Only is another example of Lexi Blake’s ability to convey a whole range of emotions.  Ian and Charlotte create great moments in this story that make me laugh out loud and inject insight through sarcasm.  Damon and Owen give us some of the more serious advise. We learn a lot more about how Nick got the place where he is at now.  The chemistry between each of the characters is amazing.  They are family and will protect each other.  I don’t think I will ever get enough of this series.  I also love the Zanetti reference.  As in most Lexi Blake books we are given a little tease of what’s to come and I can’t wait because she manages to draw me in with every book.

Review

Daddy’s Girl has me torn in two, how can I devour a book that is just a little bit wrong and dirty? Well I read it in a day, could not put it down, knew It would be hard but you once you pick this up you will like me keep turning those pages wanting to know how it ends – I simply loved the ending.

Lily’s mother was one character that I truly wanted to hurt very badly and then Law, well words fail me on that man, he is demented and dangerous but wow when he is that erotic and dominating man within the dark walls of Lily’s life well – speechless.

The mystery of Lily’s family and then the other players in this underworld is astonishing and when you realise where she is being held – well I was shocked – I had to take a moment as I was horrified and just so angry.

Lily’s strength her way to adapt to her situation and her issues obviously with her own father – her back story was interesting and helped me understand her actions and emotions to her situation.

Barred (Billionaires & Bohemians Book 2)

By Linnea May

Synopsis

She may have good reason to stand clear of men like me.
But I will make her mine.
I am my own man. I’ve always done things differently, and I’m sure as hell not going to end up like my brother – tamed and chained up to one woman.

This won’t change, even when that petite ballerina stumbles into my arms like a helpless deer.

Sara may embody the pure and innocent swan on stage, but this blue eyed doll can’t hide the little nymph she really is. I crave her lithe and lissom body like no other.

She’s scared and careful, always keeping me at arm’s length – which makes me want her even more.

This little swan will dance just for me.

*** This steamy Romance is aimed at audiences 18+. Full length novel with no cliffhangers and a HEA ending.

Review

Barred was another great love story in the Billionaire & Bohemians series.  I loved book 1 Tamed and Barred although following a similar romantic journey still had differences to keep me glued to the pages and reading this in a day, I could not put it down.

Billionaires & Bohemians Series (Tamed and Barred) gives the reader both beautiful love stories. The way these two brothers have fallen in love with artistic and compassionate women who are so far removed from their lives but bring so much with them to the individual relationships of these two brothers is excellent.  All characters to me evolve and grow as their romantic relationships do and I loved that, it’s like these women show the brothers the other side of privileged life.

I would have loved to had a chapter with Lux’s mother meeting Sara as she was a favourite character of mine from Tamed Book 1 and intricate to the first love story.  I am so sure Lux’s mother would have been all over Sara being the woman her son would eventually marry.

The sensual erotic scenes between Lux and Sara are beautifully written and the tug of war Lux has with his business and how he encourages Sara in her career was an excellent side story to their romance.

It was also wonderful to see Elodie and Kingston again in this story.  I do hope we get another story with these brothers and their wives embarking on the next stage of their lives together perhaps all in New York and Lux repairing his relationship with his parents.

My only complaint it did feel rushed at the end but I was also not ready to let Lux and Sara go!

Holding on Tighter (Wicked Lovers #12)

By Shayla Black

Synopsis

Jolie Quinn is a woman in charge. Her no-nonsense attitude has made her a rising star in the fashion world and her brand a household name among the Dallas elite. Nothing will stop her from achieving her goals—not even the gorgeous British security contractor who seems just as interested in seeing her personal assets as he is in protecting her professional ones.

After a tragedy left him broken, Heath Powell made a rule of staying unattached. But Jolie challenges him in a way he can’t ignore, and he isn’t used to backing down from a confrontation—especially when the reward for winning could feel so good. As passion blazes between them, the stubborn, confident beauty arouses more than his desire. She touches his heart.

When a mysterious enemy threatens Jolie and her company, Heath is the only person Jolie can trust to help. But working with him to save her business might put her dangerously at risk of falling in love…

Review

Holding on Tighter brings the Wicked Lover’s series to an end in a spectacular way.   Shayla Black has a way of writing that makes you fall in love with each of her characters.  Jolie and Heath are no different.

I fell for Heath the minute I opened the book.  He had a wife that he loved and was the victim of a senseless act of violence.  Heath is really only going through the motions of life until he starts a job protecting Jolie.  He starts to understand that he has more love that he has to give.

Jolie is a head strong woman who knows what she wants in life.  She has a jaded view on love because of her mother’s experience.  When she meets Heath Jolie is thrown off and now is finding herself having to pave a new path for herself.

From the first chapter the story builds on itself.  From a budding relationship to protecting Jolie from history repeating itself. There are also unforgettable characters in this story.  Karis, Jolie’s sister, has an upbeat spirit and is still looking for love. Jolie has quite a unique set of employees that gives her sanity a run for her money, but she manages to keep them focused and moving towards the same goal.  On Heath’s side, he has his best friend that he hasn’t talked to for years after them both losing their wife’s in the same shooting.  We also got to know Cutter and catch up with some other characters we know well like Stone, Tyler, Logan and Hunter.

There is also a mystery to figure out.  Why someone would want to hurt Jolie and how it connects to Heath. Plus Heath has a chance to get some closure on his wife’s murder.

Holding on Tighter is a great addition to this series.  I really loved the attention to detail right down to the rules that were at the beginning of every chapter. And make sure to read the epilogue because lots of old friends show up. I am definitely going to miss this series but I am looking forward to reading what Shayla Black has in store for us next.

His Undeniable Secret

By Shayla Black

Synopsis

I’m Kayla.
I’m twenty one.
I’m afraid because ever since a sudden, terrible tragedy, I’m alone in the world—except for my brother’s best friend. But now Oliver intends to move back to London.
I’m in love with him. And I have to persuade him to stay…somehow.
Maybe if I tell him I’m a virgin and show him just how far I’m willing to go to keep him, he’ll give in.
Of course, I never expected that he’d be keeping a shocking secret of his own…

Review

His Undeniable Secret is about Kayla, a girl with a huge heart that belongs to Oliver.  Oliver is a man whose best friend died and is helping his sister grieve.  Oliver also has a secret which is causing him to make the decision to go back home to London.

This novella reminds me what I love about Shayla Black.  Her writing creates emotion and passion. I loved that Kayla only had eyes for Oliver and would do anything to keep him from moving back to London.  Oliver was the perfect match for her but he was conflicted because she was his best friend’s sister.  He was also willing to give her up to keep her from entering into his world.

His Undeniable Secret is a great stand alone novella.  It left me wanting to get to know these characters better.  The only thing I wish was that this book was slightly longer so that I could find out more about them.

Review

Silent Daughter was one simply dark, dangerous, dirty and down right delicious read.  I could pick this up again as I was not ready to leave Leonard and Liz because I want to know their future.

One of my favourite parts of this book was the fact we get dual POV which enables you to connect to both characters as this is a highly emotional read.  The sexual BDSM scenes are highly erotic and some of the most intense I have read in a long time – truly satisfying and give you all those tingles and stomach turns you read dark romance novels for.

Silent Daughter Liz is ignored and ridiculed by her family for being different, wanting an education over an arranged marriage. The way this is written you immediately connect to her on an emotional level and could see how she could be intrigued by Leonard when she first meets him.  Leonard and Liz are outsiders in a world of money and privilege who have deep dark secret needs.

Leonard peels away the layers of Liz, at the start this is a mind and physical game for him but it is riveting to see how the dynamic in their relationship changes over the course of the book.  Leonard frees the Silent Daughter, he enable Liz to escape from the guilded cage that is her life and encourages her to be herself and acknowledge her different needs.

Whilst I devoured the darkness, emotional and physical erotic scenes of this story, the ending provided me with romance and new beginnings and gave me the lightness of love.

Synopsis

A fallen hero reborn

Theo Taggart lost everything the night he died. His family, his beautiful Erin, and worst of all, he lost himself. A twisted doctor brought him back from the brink of death, but reprogrammed his identity to serve her will. Rescued by his brothers, he must fight to reclaim the man he was and the life, and love, that were stolen from him.

A love worth fighting for

Erin Argent thought she’d lost Theo forever. When he walked back into her life, it was nothing short of a miracle. Months of torture and conditioning at the hands of Dr. Hope McDonald have done damage to Theo that may never be mended. He has no memory of her or the life they shared. Breaking through to him, and helping him rediscover all he lost, will be the toughest mission she’s ever faced. Luckily for Theo, Erin loves a good fight.

Their reunion under siege

Unfortunately, Hope is far from done with Theo Taggart. Obsessed with her prize experiment, she will do anything to get him back. If the only way to finally break him of his past life is to kill Erin and his son, then she’s only too happy to oblige…

Review

Submission is Not Enough has now become my personal favorite book from this series.  Lexi Blake combined humour and emotional heartache that had me laughing and crying and laughing and crying.  I love how she brought back all of the characters that we love and we got to know new characters that will find a place in our hearts.

Erin is a truly special person.  She was a tough kid that had to overcome what was lacking in her family.  She deserved to have an easy adulthood but that wasn’t in the cards for her.  It was her tenacity that won me over.  She learned so much while she thought Theo was dead and she never gives up on a fight.

Theo is a man that has literally lost everything he knows to be true.  His family hasn’t given up on him but he has no idea who he is or what it means to be a Taggart.  When he comes back from the dead he has to find himself again and relearn everything about what his family is made of.

Hope McDonald is the very definition of evil, but brilliant, mastermind.  She is obsessed with Theo and will do everything in her power to get him back.  She is definitely a person that you can just hate.

Lexi Blake put in the right mix of past and present into Submission is Not Enough.  Many times in this book we were taken to the past and learned what brought these two together.  I also loved all the humour that was injected into this story.  Ian provided a lot of humour and a lot of tough brotherly love.  This book had everything in it that makes this series so great.
