Koivu (Demon After Dark #3)

By Laurie Olerich

Synopsis

Former Hell’s Fury champion, Koivu, is desperate to return to Hell to reclaim his title and stolen life. As an extreme athlete, he had fame, glory, and more pleasure than he probably deserved. He was a freakin’ rock star! Being exiled in a broken human body is his worst nightmare. Stripped of his powers and unable to fight, he’s consumed by frustration, counting the seconds until he can go home. His future looks bleak until he meets a sexy, soft-hearted physical therapist who heals much more than his shoulder.

Physical therapist Micki Glass knows something about damaged people. She’s been struggling to get over her ex for three long years when this crazy man crashes into her life. He’s crude and intense but irresistibly charming. With his feral eyes and sexy smile, Koivu takes her on a sensual joyride that makes her feel like a woman again. As their affair heats up, she craves him like oxygen until she discovers what he really is. With more than her heart on the line, can she accept his past and love him for who he is now?

The day of reckoning is looming closer and the sacrifices have begun. Can Koivu stop the murders, find the rest of the Trinity, and convince the woman he loves to give him another chance before it’s too late?

Review

I am so addicted to this series.  Koivu is a ex-demon that wants to find his way back to Hell.  He had a good life there and wants it back.  He is now stuck in this body that is not indestructible and a physical therapist to help him fix it.  Koivu is unapologetic about his desires.  He likes women and sex.

Micki has the lucky job of fixing Koivu’s shoulder, even if it doesn’t always feel like it.  She has her own issues that she is trying to come to terms with. Lucky for her she might just have an ex-demon with ex-demon friends on her side.

I fell for Koivu even if he is a womanizing jerk.  His need to get back to Hell made him blind to the person that was right in front of him. He has intense loyalty to his team and to Lucifer. I really like the fact that he brings the human element to these guys.  We got to see the despair that all of us would feel if we were torn from our homes with no hope of ever seeing the people that we love again.

Micki really was the perfect match for him. Micki is really as damaged as he is. She is feisty though and that makes Koivu want her even more.

I also love this series because it takes a different look at good and evil, Heaven and Hell,  Angels and Demons.  There are other stories that are building in this book which I think will all merge together. The most interesting being the relationship between Raphael and Lucifer.  It is really interesting to see how Raphael helps Lucifer. And it is also a treat to see the Primani team and how they interact with the Demons. I can’t wait for the next installment!!!

The Devil Has a British Accent

By ZN Willett

Synopsis

This is no simple Hollywood story of famous boy meets ordinary girl, who then fall in love and live happily ever after.

This is about the town of dreamers and make believers; skilled at casting spells of deception and deceit. And what happens when the spell is lifted, and everything that you believe in is merely an illusion?

When the world of happily ever after is altered and obscured, and not only by one enticing man?

For Lauren Moreau, her journey is full of raw emotions that will tempt you with curiosity and intrigue, and squeeze out passion and angst until your heart bleeds.

This is Hollywood, after all…

Review

The Devil Has a British Accent is a coming of age romance with a paranormal twist. A girl who has to protect her heart and the men who want her.

Lauren has just returned from Minnesota after graduating.  She doesn’t have any real plans for the future but has decided to help a family friend with her catering business while a film crew is in town.  I liked Lauren, she has gone through a lot with her family and is figuring out what comes next and that makes her relatable.  She is also trying to figure out her love life when a sexy actor enters her life.  There is something about him that she is drawn to.

Jackson Cruz is an actor that finds himself completely infatuated with this small town girl.   He has many secrets that could change her life forever.  I didn’t like Jackson for Lauren.  He wasn’t my favorite character.  I wondered why he cut himself off emotionally to her a lot of the time and I think because of that I didn’t connect with him as much as I wanted to.

Cary is another actor/musician that is famous but has been a family friend to Lauren’s family since they were children.  He is best friends with her brother Blake.  I really liked his character. I knew he was keeping secrets from Lauren but there is something about the way he cares for her and her brother that stuck out to me.

I found The Devil Has a British Accent to be a good coming of age paranormal romance.  The beginning was a little bit on the long side but the ending was fast-paced and Lauren’s world really changed forever.  This is a to be continued story so I can’t wait until the next installment.

Benn (Demons After Dark Book 2)

By Laurie Olerich

Synopsis

A former shrink in the SuperMax prison, Benn’s positive he’s lost his damn mind when he wakes up in the body of an uptight antiquities professor. One glance in the mirror and he knows he’s not in Hell anymore. After he’s brought into Expat Security, the archangel Raphael hands him a mission he can’t refuse if he wants to get home again. Live in Rome, raft into jungles, and risk life and brand new limbs? Oh, hell, yeah! To this rush-loving extreme athlete ex-demon, this sounds like his idea of Heaven! There’s only one problem. He can’t do the job without the help of a beautiful grad student who can’t stand the sight of him. He may not remember their past, but he’s ready to make their present a whole helluva lot more fun.

Grad student Lainey Hayes has done everything she can to escape her mother’s embarrassing world of psychics and palm readers. Throwing herself into her studies, she’s perfectly happy until she’s assigned to a special project with the egotistical, narrow-minded, and condescending Professor Daniels. The smug academic discounts anything and everything related to the paranormal–including her mother. The idea of spending months tramping through ruins with him sounds like her vision of Hell, but she’s shocked to discover this adrenaline junkie with a zest for life is nothing like the jackass she remembered.

Review

Hell is under attack. There is an ancient artifact that is out there that can kill Lucifer.  Vanek and his team need to find it first in order to save Hell and stop a civil war from breaking out and spilling over to the human plane.

Benn is a psychiatrist for Hell (who knew there are psychiatrists in Hell). He has be given a task from Raphael to find the artifact because his transporter is a specialist in artifacts.  He needs help because he didn’t get any memories from professor Daniels.

Lainey is a research assistant that has a history with Professor Daniels.  She doesn’t know that Daniels has turned into Benn.  She still thinks that he is the jerk she met a long time ago.  Lainey also has the ability to sense when someone is telling the truth or not and it doesn’t help that Benn has to lie to her.

Book 2 takes this series to the next level.  I love how Benn is slightly awkward and tries to fix his relationship with Lainey even though it was Daniels that wronged her. I also found that Lainey was adorable.  She is head strong and willing to do what it takes to achieve her dreams.  I also really like the interactions between all the demons.  They know what is at stake for the world but they still manage to show that they are more than coworkers that they are family.  I really love where Laurie is taking this series and can’t wait to see where it goes from here.

Vanek (Demons After Dark Book 1)

By Laurie Olerich

Synopsis

Introducing the Demons after Dark series! It’s hot paranormal romance featuring unlikely alpha heroes who will make you laugh, cry, and swoon. Known only as Trinity demons, this band of brothers was stripped of their powers and violently exiled from Hell. Forced to live as humans, they’re left with no memories and no weapons while a secret society quietly plots Lucifer’s demise. For these big, bad demons, adjusting to life as a human is, well, harder than Hell!

Thanks to her family’s curse, psychic Dylan McDonagh has been promised to a sadistic soul broker demon and she’s desperate to escape a terrifying future. After an impulsive act leads her to Morningstar Sanitarium, she’s inexplicably drawn to the sad and mysterious Vanek, but their tentative connection is broken when they escape and go their separate ways. Forced into hiding, Dylan turns to Expat Security for protection. Stunned to find the disturbingly sexy Vanek working there, she almost walks away. Another demon is the last thing she needs in her life.

Formerly one of Hell’s most renowned Painkillers, Vanek is horrified with being human until he discovers he’s been thrown into the body of a badass mercenary with a definite kinky streak and a box of sex toys. Wondering how he got so lucky, he jumps into his new role as second in command of Trinity’s new ops center–Expat Security. When Dylan comes to them for help, he knows he’s got to handle her case personally. As his attraction to her grows, so does the conspiracy that landed him in Brooklyn.

Review

Lucifer has a problem, someone is planning on taking Hell right from under him. But there is a lot that needs to happen before that can take place.  Like exiling all the demons that are loyal to Lucifer and stripping them of their powers.

After being exiled from Hell, one of Lucifer’s painkillers found himself in a mental institution without any memory of who or what he was.  All Vanek knows is that his every instinct is telling him to torture.  Until a girl crosses his path, he remains in a drug induced haze.

Dylan has her own problems, her family and the man she is supposed to marry.  But she takes an opportunity to escape with Vanek.  Now she is on the run just tying to survive and stay safe with the one man who until recently tortured souls.  As Vanek gets to know her he realizes how special she is and the gifts that she has.

There is so much that is going on in this story.  A plot to take over Hell, exiled demons trying to find their way home, a girl trying to escape a death sentence and a romance between two people that don’t have anything in common. This story has a different perspective on demons and angels that is so intriguing.   It’s weaved together with humour, great action with a mystery to figure out.

I definitely found this story extremely addictive and can’t wait to read about all the other missing demons.
